  1. For many people, Orion will be a new ride this year, and I agree with others who believe next year will be a 50th anniversary celebration. My guess is they won't announce a coaster for that; I'd imagine they follow something similar to what Cedar Point previously announced (and is doing this year). I'd love to see them do some sort of commemorative photo book like CP did (although I've also pre-ordered A RIDE THROUGH TIME, so if they don't, I'm pretty set on history). KI seems to do a better job with nostalgia than CP does, so I'd imagine they'll really lean into it for next year. For this year, I think it's just going to be a typical year, focused on getting back to normal-ish. I know right now seems to be an iffy time, with spikes in cases around the country. But I know there's optimism that as more people are vaccinated, cases will dramatically drop and this summer will be fairly normal. Just a year of powering through, followed by an announcement for the anniversary year, will be good enough for me.

  3. All this talk of Paramount theming and everybody is forgetting The Outer Limits Flight of Fear.

  4. The ad campaign, which featured a sinister shot of a baby carriage, took a visual cue from Paramount's "Rosemary's Baby" promotion: Other films have used similar imagery to promote their films. Here's a teaser trailer for "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child": And another for "It's Alive": However, the ride itself seems loosely based on classic B-movie horror sequels, which often featured titles that implied the titular terror is either a spouse or direct descendant of the previous monster ("Dracula's Daughter", "The Bride of Frankenstein", etc.), but most of were "Sons" ("Son of Dracula", "Son of Frankenstein", "Son of Kong", "Son of Godzilla", "Son of Blob", "Son of Flubber"). Coincidentally, Son of Beast shared another commonality with those "Son of" movies, it too paled in comparison to the original.

  7. So what you're saying is... that ride was the best themed attraction Paramount ever made?

  11. I have a gut feeling that Six Flags Great America is getting the prototype of Axis as their next coaster. Time will tell.

  15. Jokes aside, I was a fan of Top Gun's theming. That, sadly, might have been the best thing Paramount Parks ever did at Kings Island.* *Although, I never experienced The Crypt when it was Tomb Raider since I was barely coming to the park during my high school years and just never got around to riding it. Edit: As a big fan of movies, there was so much wasted potential. I tend to look back fondly on the park's selection of film music, props and posters rather than Paramount's selection of rides which, apart from a couple of notable exceptions, amounted to little more than slapping a movie title on an attraction and calling it a day (i.e. "Drop Zone", "Face/Off"). (Although, it makes me wanna hurl that KI never got the aforementioned "Wayne's World" coaster. )

  16. I'd like to see the park spend the next couple years sprucing up the themed areas, touching up current attractions, and maybe focus more on unique festival-like events. Perhaps this would also be a good time to finally re-theme Action Zone?

  21. I would honestly prefer a B&M mini dive over a Gerstlauer Infinity coaster. I only say this because I personally want all that Vortex land used and I don't think Gerstlauer makes rides that massive

  22. This is what I would love to see replace Vortex for Coney Mall. They are usually small foot prints too so Feel like they could split Vortex's plot to that for CM and the rest for Rivertown for a new attraction

  23. While an axis would be cool, I don't see us getting the first one. S&S while being innovative has seen its fair share of problems and I don't think CF will take that kind of risk.

  25. You are in for a heck of a fun weekend. I attended both last year and I will be there again this year. It is basically a big 3 day party with friends. If you take out the coaster lineup Kentucky Kingdom put on the best event I have ever attended. If anyone on here is attending and wants to meet up let me know.

  26. Here's the thing. Mack and B&M are very expensive coaster manufacturers. With all that is going on right now, I'm not sure companies are lining up to install new coasters. B&M Dive..yeah yeah. We know that. Mack multi Launch? Sure put one at Carowinds. These aren't EXCITING though anymore. Enough parks have these close by where it is not different enough, per se to draw in crowds that aren't going to purchase season passes every year anyways. KI could do a spinner on Vortex plot like Time Traveler and that would be interesting and different, and intriguing and would be a huge hit. That's my number one vote for what I'd want to ride all the time and what I'd like to see here. For the park though, let's not forget Kings Islands History on innovation and uniqueness. Racer, Beast, Screamin Demon, OG Bat, King Cobra, Vortex, Outer Limits;Flight of Fear, Son of Beast. And while not Innovative, one of the few parks with a giga. Our drop of 300 ft. Mystic Timbers is the best GCI. BUT they only built it, the layout was designed by another company. What?? Did you even know that?? The S&S Axis coaster should go on this land. Kings Island and S&S should get in cahoots and Let S&S go all out here on this plot and give us a unique experience, a glimpse of our past and something that shows everything this new coaster can do. Old Kings Island motto. DO IT ALL. Showcase the Axis here, and make a deal where KI gets a big discount on being the flagship park to sell this. Hundreds of smaller parks get a less expensive version of this thrill coaster with the various elements in ours. We win, S&S wins. We get to install a new world class coaster at a discount due to its visibility for the manufacturer. And the manufacturer gets recognized for this model at a major park. And the Cedar Point who would not want to install one of these anyways in the near future, due to the newness of the model, and still needing a respectable modern woody plus needing world class status for its new coasters, has the lack of land to put anything on, where this model does not fit for a long time without removing a crowd favorite. So, they wouldn't gamble on this. Kings Island would. It's part of her nature. Let her do what she has always done. Innovate and impress the locals. Everyone else followed back in the day. Let's quit underestimating our worth by following trends and formulas. We aren't Cedar Point South. We are Kings Island. And that means something to so many people. Perfect Coaster at the perfect park.

  27. I have envisioned an expansion utilizing the area back near Beast's station. I like the idea of the mining activity, and I've always wanted a Screamin' Swing to go where the Crypt was. Tear down the show building but leave the queue intact just rethemed as a mine. I would also move the petting zoo back to that area as well themed to a farm like Cedar Point's. As much as I like Slaughterhouse I would probably reuse that space for part of this too. I'm a bit mixed on the coaster addition though. I would utilize part of the space and expand the building to wrap around more. i would build a dark ride or indoor themed ride (something more simple like a saloon themed Madhouse or Western motion simulator. Have the queue start with a themed entrance by the arcade and exit out next to La Rosa's in a new gift shop so will expand the themed building front there by 50% or more.

  29. So the big question when it comes to a Vortex replacement is when it will happen. In Cedar Fair’s conference call yesterday, they said they want to go back to investing 9% to 10% of revenues back to what they wanted to invest before the pandemic, but they can only do so when their financial situation improves. They also said that for 2022 additions and beyond, they will only activate capital projects as the situation improves. It is also important to note that Cedar Fair is not currently committed to any future capital projects that have not been announced. For any projects that are already in development, Cedar Fair has no binding commitments to go through with these plans. With this, I think that the investments Kings Island gets next year for its 50th anniversary are somewhat dependent on what attendance looks like this summer. In regards to a new coaster, I don’t think Cedar Fair will have a normal year until 2022 at the earliest, and if Kings Island started planning a new coaster in 2022, we would likely see it open in 2024 with Kings Island usually starting the development of a new major coaster 2 years out. Realistically, I don’t know if Kings Island will start development of a new coaster until the year following or later, so I think an opening of 2025 or 2026 makes more sense. If I had to pick a year, I think we will see a Vortex replacement opening 2025 with development starting in 2023, but it really is too early to tell when Cedar Fair will be in a better financial position. https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2021/02/17/cedar-fair-fun-q4-2020-earnings-call-transcript/
