Kings Island announced today that it is raising pay for seasonal associates as it prepares to open for the 2021 season. Wages for seasonal positions have been increased to $11-$14 per hour. Most starting positions now pay $11-$12 per hour, with opportunities to earn up to $14 per hour as a lifeguard or security team member. Job opportunities are available in all park operating areas, including Rides, Merchandise, Park Services, Food and Beverage, Guest Services, Aquatics, and more. The amusement park expects to hire more than 4,000 seasonal associates in advance of its May 15 opening. Kings Island offers flexible schedules and many perks for its associates, including discounts, reward and recognition programs, scholarships, free meals, exclusive events and free admission to any Cedar Fair park. “Our seasonal associates play such an important part in helping our guests create lasting memories during their park visit,” said Mike Koontz, vice president and general manager. “Our competitive wages and benefits make Kings Island the employer of choice for summer employment, while helping our associates gain valuable experience and marketable skills for the future. 3. I don’t know... DA went from an up charge to free to gone in just over 5 years. I don’t think it could have sustained itself as its own gate. I do understand that DA was where Orion is now, but if they saw any sort of benefit to keeping it they would have found a way.

  4. A floorless is a possibility, but I see KI getting some kind of Multi-Launch coaster before that.

  5. I prefer the classic rock played in the station for The Racer. Several times I have waited in the station through a couple of cycles just to finish listening to a good song. For example: 'Barracuda' by Heart or any song by Led Zeppelin.

  6. Awesome video from the B105 "Virtual Field Trip" at Kings Island! Some really nice up close shots and great info from the VP of Maintenance about Orion and Mystic Timbers.

  7. I don’t disagree, but if you look anywhere on YouTube you’ll find no shortage of abandoned dinosaur parks. Not sure if DA would see a different date. i do agree that the park saw DA as a multi year investment, but nothing long term.

  8. They should reprofile the whole ride tbh. I have never gotten much airtime if any at all.

  9. Given how tight the margins are in the amusement park business I wonder if this is sustainable. Could this be a temporary measure to get employees during the pandemic? Good for the employees though. I'm sure they're stoked.

  10. https://event.ontaptickets.com/events/hops-roller-coaster-drops-9-11-2021?mc_cid=ce693bc6ad&mc_eid=UNIQID This event with UNLIMITED craft beer samples in September looks fantastic. Wish KI would have thought of being the first to host this one of a kind largest amusement park event. Similar to CP Frontier Festival but with many, many more committed craft breweries attending (the list of craft brewery participants is long).

  11. ^Dollywood just completed the loop between Thunderhead and Tennessee Tornado the last time I was there. I've been there 3 times and know enough what I am doing there, even with the new stuff. I also know what I want to do in G-burg/PF. This will be my first time to Carowinds. The itinerary as of now is leave for Charlotte on a Sunday, Carowinds on a Monday, travel to Gatlinburg on a Tuesday and wing it the rest of the day there, and spend Wednesday-Friday in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge (one day for tourist-y stuffs, one day for Dollywood, one day for GSMNP). I am going to try and get in at least 2 alpine coasters as well. Want to get to at least one restaurant in TN that serves good rainbow trout, too.

  12. There is far more than just chlorine in that water, the water you swim in is very clean and has enough chemicals already. I can't say for sure, but most of the chemicals probably combat the virus. Knowing SC LG's I wouldn't be surprised if they do some extra work on the slide complexes which tend to get the most grime. (Looking at you Trop Twist and Pine) Also, would not be surprised if they did more work on the mats they renovated a little while back. As per the mask situation, I haven't been to a park with masks in use for actively scanning lifeguards yet but I would be very interested in how they can operate with masks as scanning usually entails saving eventually. I'm personally going, I miss my home for the weekends.

  13. And there was not a lot of repeatability with DA. Yeah, they added a new dinosaur in, but there just wasn`t a lot to keep people coming back. Now, my son loves dinosaurs, and would have loved to experience DA.

  14. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. It’s truly an incredible park.

  15. I have a feeling this is because of how difficult it would be to have a strict mask requirement that isn't that confusing so they may not require masks in SC. However, that means they'd have to limit capacity a lot more because social distancing would be twice as important and strict. I also expect you to only be allowed to enter through the main Soak City gate. However, I think the train will still be running for those who want to ride back to the main park or just ride the train like last year.

  17. Just a thought . . I think it would be great if they played popular songs in queue lines as when the ride opened. Good classic rock in the The Beast line from the early 80's. for example.

  20. Sad that at the last minute Ed Hart at KK did not cut the check for this coaster on the day the pandemic hit last March, but glad Silverwood was able to pick up the coaster which was originally destined for KK. Definitely a great addition to Silverwood.

  22. I wouldn't say it's a stupid ride. I see a lot of kids run back to the ride afterwards. Yes the final hill is a let down after the forbidden temple, but If you take out Adventure Express, you lose your mine ride and a piece of history. I don't think Mine ride roller coasters are made anymore. Someone please correct me If I'm wrong.

  24. I would agree with this to a point. I know I have been someone who has talked about the importance of capacity but CF has done a good of adding capacity to the park. The three B&Ms, The Beast, Racer, and AE are all great at eating thru a line and Mystic does decent as well. Orion (when things get back to normal) more than makes up whatever capacity that Firehawk and half empty Vortex trains were getting. I don't think they need a one train ride (ala the Tempestos of the world) but the park could certainly handle a Gerstlauer, Mack, or RMC to bring some variety (and inversions) back to the park.

  25. I don't know if I can disagree with you (because of the premise of this thread). But I do think removing the trees actually made International Street look better. To me, it gives more scale and grandeur to the atmosphere. I do miss the shade they provided, though!
