  2. A little disappointed that they announced that they initially won’t do indoor shows, but other than that I’m very very happy with the changes. I went to Dollywood yesterday and they have similar protocols. It was so freeing to not wear a mask on the midways.

  3. Full update on safety protocols. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/welcoming-you-back Changes from Last Season: Reservations will only be required for visiting Soak City Water Park. Both Season Passholders and Single Day Ticketholders will need reservations for Soak City. Temperature checks for guests have been discontinued at the front gate. The health screen questionnaire will be conducted by associates at the front gate and will not be conducted through the Kings Island mobile app. There will be no limitations to ride capacity for most rides. Guests aged 10 years and older are required to wear face coverings while indoors, unless actively eating and drinking. Face coverings are not required outdoors unless it is not possible to maintain 6’ of social distancing. Face coverings should completely cover the nose and mouth, and not have exhalation valves or vents, which allows virus particles to escape.

  5. This news totally made my day. It's going to make my trip to KI and Cedar Point in June even better not having to cover my face. It's nice to see common sense being used here.

  6. That’s exactly the problem, “socially distant.” Even on the midway it is difficult to have 6 feet gaps between individuals and groups. You have folks that can’t wear a mask properly, now asking them to stay 6 feet apart? Good frickin luck

  7. According to this facebook post, Grand Carnivale is back in 2021! The picture is from the reservation system for Soak City! https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=4241132615906028&set=gm.1444021009264345 Here's the photo for those who can't access it:

  9. Yes! The unemployment compensation is way, way out of hand at the moment. So many people have no incentive to work right now, it's ridiculous. It was fine for a time, but time to send folks back into the workforce.

  10. There’s no way they’d tell you to remove a mask. In fact, masks are still recommended outside, just not required. You’re free to wear it if you desire and no employees will stop you.

  12. If one does not have to wear a mask how do you wear one improperly? You also forget many of us have been vaccinated. Also i read somewhere that the science proves that you need to be standing within 6 feet of someone for x amount of minutes in order to really catch the virus outdoors. So just walking by someone on the midway should be safe.

  13. It's an experience unlike any other, that's for sure!!!!

  14. This 100%. I was down in Pigeon Forge last week. Their mask mandate expired on April 15, and very few of the businesses decided to keep their mask protocols in place there. Walking into an establishment with no mask requirement for the first time in ages was one of the most refreshing things I've done in years. The difference in mood at the park will be palpable, and it will be MUCH more fun this year than most can imagine. I just hope that employees aren't required to masks so that everyone can breathe freely!

  15. Good point! I guess it may be awhile before we can say for certain which park will be getting the new Gerstlauer unless permits or something show up sometime soon for whatever park it is going to.

  16. It rolls out slowly into a launch. And yeah it's definitely an outerbank. With how steep it is I would definitely consider it an outer-banked top hat though.

  17. If that were the case, they would still say they are mandatory especially on rides. Here's straight from the KI website: There will be no limitations to ride capacity for most rides. Face coverings are recommended for outdoor rides and required for indoor rides.

  18. The IT department is not going to like that, LOL

  19. Last line here states you do not have to wear masks on outdoor rides.. I have both shots so I'm glad we will not have to wear masks in the heat and looks like they will not be enforcing masks outdoors at all.

  20. This is definitely great news. We have both been vaccinated and I've been counting down the days until the season pass days. Just not sure if we'll wear masks in line or if we will discard them. All the "science" is pointing to minimal risk, as others have said, for outside venues and thus I will probably keep the mask in my pocket. I'm more excited about full train operations. The coasters can get back to cranking people through and lines will be more normal. Less than two weeks to go!!

  21. Dr. Fauci said yesterday that the risk from outdoor spread is "miniscule". I'm glad Cedar Fair is following the science. This is great news.

  22. That is a touchy subject. Can you imagine if last year you made $10/hr, this year you are $13/hr and when you return next year (with another year of experience) at $11/hr? It is going to take higher wages to convince people to work instead of collect unemployment. Many people I know cannot find people to work because they make more on unemployment. Prices have already started to increase in the marketplace. (other things factor into this, too, not just labor).

  23. I don't see them relocating backlot to another section of the park if they do anything with it. If they do end up removing it, it'll likely be scrapped.

  24. I just finished the book. Very well done and highly recommended to any fan of Kings Island and this forum. Also to anyone whose a fan of the industry in general, as the park has had more of an impact on the industry than I thought going into it. Literally I was reading 50 to 60 pages a night since I got the book on Monday, I was hooked on the story of the park and I don’t really read for pleasure. That says something. 25. Here's an idea on how a queue could work if they were to put a new coaster station where Vortex's station was. Yes, it's an RMC and the theme is connected between both Coney and Rivertown. It would be themed to a shipping and containment facility that ships things between Fort Coney (Coney Mall) and Rivertown. The facility would actually be named Outpost 5 as a nod to SOB. Action Theater would remain to be used as a storage/storm shelter building.

  26. I feel they are all supporting coasters with some better than others obviously. We have yet to get a standout ride since Beast IMO.

  27. Orion for me. Super tall, super fast, and has some great pops of airtime in places. I love how it's focused on speed. Mystic Timbers comes in second love the ejector airtime only complaint with MT is the restraint will come down further on you during the ride making it harder to get more airtime. Banshee comes in 3rd for me. I love how it just keeps going from one element after another.

  28. for me goes back and forth between Orion and Diamondback, but at this moment I would probably say Diamondback since the last ride that I got on Diamondback was better than my ride on my last ride on Orion

  29. Mystic for me! But Surf Dog is not a coaster period lol. I don't know why people think it is.

  30. Here are my Top Five roller coasters at KI: Diamondback- Amazing airtime! Orion- Great theming, really fast, and my first roller coaster to have a debate/argument with. Is it a Giga or a Hyper? The Racer(s)- What kind of coaster enthusiast wouldn't wanna race their friends on a roller coaster!? I'm pretty sure I've won every single time I've ridden it! (P.S, the Blue Side is most likely to win the most because the Red Side has trims!) The Beast- I'm surprised this ride even made it to my Top Five list! Spectacular night-ride! Invertigo- If you keep your head back against the seat the whole time, you'll have a more pleasant ride! Honorable mentions: Mystic Timbers- It would've been number 5 on the list if it didn't have a LONG line all the time! Surf Dog- I know it's "Arguably a coaster", but for now I'm not going to count it as one. But that doesn't mean I don't like it. It's a great family ride! Woodstock Express- I've never had ANY issues with this ride. It's not very rough, and doesn't ALWAYS have a VERY LONG line (I'm looking at you Mystic Timbers!). But when it comes to my "Top Five Best coasters at KI", it just wasn't able to make the cut. Flying Ace Arial Chase- Why did I put this in here?

  32. My fingers are crossed that The Bat doesn't meet its demise within the next five years. That would absolutely devastate me.
