  1. I never pull out the maps when I get them (I've been going to KI all my life, so I don't need it; there are also electronic maps everywhere). For me, it's what KIghostguy said. It's about collecting; it's a nostalgic thing. When I was a kid, the first thing I did when we got to the park was grab the map and unfold it to look for showtimes, find where the new ride was, etc. I like the idea that I can still do that, and I love that now my kids get just as excited about it. They may be inessential, but for some it's a big part of the experience.

  2. As we inch closer and closer to season pass holder preview on May 8th and 9th, and the start of the general season on May 15th, Kings Island is getting to be on everyone's mind. So many people are ready to get out of the house and enjoy yet another year of thrills, friends, and making memories at their favorite park, Kings Island. After an uncertain 2020 year with a shortened season, mask wearing, health screenings, and all that went into being safe at the park, we are starting to be able to get a little normalcy in 2021. Along with that is the return of Soak City, Shows, 10PM closes, fireworks, and much more. KICentral members and other Kings Island fans are figuring out the logistics of getting their families & friends over to the park and making vacation plans that include visits to Kings Island and possibly a day or two at Soak City. As you start making your plans to visit Kings Island the park map is a great way to show your first time family, friends, and neighbors the layout of Kings Island you might be bringing this summer. Visit our Park Maps Page to not only download the electronic version of the full map, but also reference the park maps anytime. KICentral wishes everyone a great year at Kings Island. We look forward to not only seeing you on the forums, but out on the midways! KICentral Admin 2021 Park Map

  3. I like to collect them. Plus, I prefer the physical aspect of holding it in my hands versus looking at an image on my phone. I would be legitimately surprised if there’s anyone that wants them to remain electronic for this year.

  4. I really, really hope that we’re back to paper maps this year. I was at Dollywood in March and they were using paper maps, so it’s definitely safe to do.

  5. I just feel the whole thing is disrespectful to the teams that put all that themeing together to create an immersive experience of an active military base for it a year later to be expanded with disco balls, rave lighting, truss, and white screens. In addition I see 2021 as a 'honorary' first season for Orion as many people did not get to experience KI due to Covid. I really hope this works, who knows the show may be awesome but may fall into the same trap as Luminosity. Great show and theatrics, poor location.

  8. I simply mean adding shows back where they normally would be: KIT, Showplace, enchanted theater, etc.

  9. Ok yeah it’s the best I’ve ever been on. It’s everything I love about Maverick with Universal level theming and no head banging. It’s perfect. Lightning Rod has been moved to number 2 on my list.

  10. I disagree. I think it goes along well with the space/sci fi theming of the area. I think honestly in the future they should keep that up as decorations tbh especially that screen on FOF

  11. Covid is not lethal? Have you been living in a cave? I suppose you are one of those "Covid is no worse than the flu" people. There are tons of people that have serious side effects a YEAR after contacting this disease. The long term health effects will not be known for some time. Downplaying this virus is not helpful.

  12. I like the Bea Arthur analogy! I would be the guy towards the right scratching his head wondering why they built this obtrusive lighting truss and video screen that will be used an hour a day. ****Note: I reserve the right to like this live entertainment later if it is better than the concept art.

  13. How about the country flags on the buildings and the Carnivale flags on the light poles around the fountain? I did like the big CARNIVALE sign on the Tower. Why can't we have international flags on the building over the turnstyles like in the days of yorn?

  14. Idk if we'll ever see the return to paper maps. Especially since it is much easier to have one to download and use on the mobile app. I could see them being available to download and print for those who like collecting them. I just have this feeling that 2019 was the final year of paper maps.

  16. I LOVED the parade and the food, but I hated the tacky decorations barfed all over the new International Street with a burning passion. I hope that this year they at least stay away from replacing the international flags on the buildings with generic Carnivale flags.

  17. This thread is "off the rails" so maybe try to get back "on track" by bringing back some rides that had just that. Delirium - King Cobra Mostly vacant land - Baba Looey's Buggies Snoopy vs. Red Baron - Boo Boo's Baggage Claim (Snoopy vs. Red Baron would be relocated somewhere else.)

  19. They were so comfy and it looked like it accommodated a good amount of larger people which is unusual for Intamin.

  20. I hope I'm wrong. I really do. But the hardware for this entertainment to me, is akin to putting a hardwood basketball court over the infield at Great American Ballpark. I like baseball and basketball, but they don't fit together. The metal trusses for lighting and sound tend to be invasive. Unless it is done very well, it will detract from the Area 72 theme that they worked so hard to create.

  22. I have always wanted a Live DJ at KI since the early 2000s. When Luminosity opened at Cedar Point I was convinced. That being said the location of Luminosity was out of place in terms of crowd congestion. You had to get their early for a spot and even then the crowds left no room for truly enjoying the show. Now that a version of this is coming to KI I am super happy, but it comes at a cost as I have quite a few concerns, namely on its location. The space in Area 72 is already limited and a dead end location. Having to walk past that to get to Orion will be a tad over congested. If you have been to CP during the DJ at the Luminosity stage you will know how crowded it can be. I'm also a bit bummed that this will result in the amazing IMA score not playing during the event. Action Zone feels like the far better location for this. Open space, much more vibrant, better fit for a DJ and disco lights. I see the concept image and just feel, This is too much. Especially after the great work the themeing dept did for the Area 72 last year. Again I'm all for the DJ, just not in this part of the park.

  23. I don’t think it will be near the entrance to Mystic Timbers. That would create too much crowding and block people from entering the ride. I think it will likely be around Rivertown Pizza with a truck pulled up next to the stage.

  24. I mostly agree with you. My only problem with this is they did a lot of really nice theming work on area 72 that this is going to distract from a bit, and I think that's kind of shame considering a lot of people who would normally go to Kings Island probably didn't go last year when it was new. That being said though, I'm not sure why this is so upsetting to some here. It's really not that big of a deal and I'd be surprised if its not just a temporary event for this season.

  25. I think the scale is way off. That area is much bigger than it looks in the concept art. I agree with @Hawaiian Coasters 325, it will fit that area really nicely with the theming in that area.

  29. I definitely wouldn't mind a blitz in that location and something else here. Like in my concepts above, a large scale blitz would require a large chunk of the land behind The Vortex land near The Beast.

  31. I did when I was a kid. My dad would save them for me too. In the pre-internet days we had to be creative and observant. :^) It’s not a big collection, maybe 20 or so articles and brochures I stuffed in a tote between other newspapers about the Reds and Bengals championships.

  35. ^ You obviously suffer from b&mitis.
    1 point
  36. Typical symptoms of B&Mitis are rational thoughts and cohesive arguments that take into account all of the facts about both manufacturers. Typical symptoms of Intaminitis are blind arguments based on only one small aspect of the manufacturers, failing to consider (or outright ignoring) much more important facts, and refusal to listen to reason. You tell me which one a person is more likely to find annoying and thus which one more people will complain about.

  39. I’d say chances are about 50/50 of the paper maps never returning. They are trying to drive digital with the ultimate goal of phasing out paper maps and I think the ‘Rona may have expedited that process

  40. I disagree. I honestly think having a screen there would make it look nice as long as they add some type of themed video that goes along with the theme and not fun TV's during the day.
