  1. Hello everybody. I don't know how long it has been since I posted on here but I miss everybody. Have been kind of a hermit during this horrible year but am so thankful to have survived it. Got both of my shots and am ready to start riding again. Hope to see you all this Saturday for Season Pass weekend. ( I am assuming that there are a lot of new members on here.) PS are you still around Terpy? So miss your wit.

  3. I was fortunate enough to take a ride on Racer tonight at the friends and family event. Blue side, second seat. Best Racer ride for me in years. The new outbound stretch was whipped cream smooth and the entire ride was great. Great job to KI and GG for all the TLC on Racer. I’d still love a backwords ride, but short of that, I’m thankful that Racer is running fantastic again.

  5. This is not true. Diamondback saw a "near record-breaking year," according to Dick Kinzel. Banshee saw a significant attendance increase and was the reason why Mystic Timbers came only three years later, according to Greg Scheid. Mystic Timbers resulted in the highest-attendance year since 1998, according to Mike Koontz. I know you're going off the TEA numbers, but those are totally wrong. Cedar Fair said that Knott's Berry Farm surpassed 6 million in attendance for 2018, but the TEA numbers for that year was 4 million.

  8. Well I am on the wrong site. I am a amusement park fan not a one park fanboy. I am well traveled and try to go to 5 or 6 new parks a year. I like the 6 flags method of sharing the love and not feeding only a couple. I came to this site to talk coasters and amusement parks. Clearly this site has a bias one way of thinking.

  11. Thank you Bodda. I only got one ride on Orion last season which was on opening day 7/2/20. While like M Force a smidge better, still loved it. Its so nice to have a giga in your own backyard. The arguments about it not being a real giga because of the lift hill being less than 300 feet to me were plain silly. People need to realize that the topography of KI is made up of ravines which means lift hills on the average will be lower while you will have higher drops into ravines. I did not go back to KI at all for the rest of the season as I was simply too worried about the Covid outbreak. I feel so lucky that I did not get stricken but it really hit home when my Partner's mother as well as several of his sisters and brothers in law were stricken. They all recovered but that was a very scary time. Hopefully there is now a light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine available. Hope to see you at the park tomorrow Bodda.

  15. As we inch closer and closer to season pass holder preview on May 8th and 9th, and the start of the general season on May 15th, Kings Island is getting to be on everyone's mind. So many people are ready to get out of the house and enjoy yet another year of thrills, friends, and making memories at their favorite park, Kings Island. After an uncertain 2020 year with a shortened season, mask wearing, health screenings, and all that went into being safe at the park, we are starting to be able to get a little normalcy in 2021. Along with that is the return of Soak City, Shows, 10PM closes, fireworks, and much more. KICentral members and other Kings Island fans are figuring out the logistics of getting their families & friends over to the park and making vacation plans that include visits to Kings Island and possibly a day or two at Soak City. As you start making your plans to visit Kings Island the park map is a great way to show your first time family, friends, and neighbors the layout of Kings Island you might be bringing this summer. Visit our Park Maps Page to not only download the electronic version of the full map, but also reference the park maps anytime. KICentral wishes everyone a great year at Kings Island. We look forward to not only seeing you on the forums, but out on the midways! KICentral Admin 2021 Park Map

  16. Greg Scheid did consider putting in a wing coaster at the park, but at a different time than Thunderbird...I’d recommend checking out the book Kings Island: A Ride Through Time!

  19. Another blow for KD. Their calendar this season is so sad, they have fallen so far behind that even Six Flags America could be perceived to have passed them. And is that free spin still sitting in the parking lot? My god, what a shame for a park with so much potential and natural beauty, plus a solid top 3 coaster lineup.

  20. So this is a site where you will learn more than you could imagine about Kings Island, so if that somehow offends, I guess you're right. This thread, for example, is simply awesome for anybody who grew up with Kings Island.

  21. I just hope that if they are getting rid of the park maps for good they do what Cedar Point does and have a poster sized souvenir map that you can buy

  22. Wasn't it Diamondback that didn't have an increase? And I think Mystic Timbers was 2%. Also be careful when comparing percentages. Kings Island attendance is much higher than many other parks which makes for lower percentages. Additions may also be made simply to keep attendance up rather than increase it.

  23. They have the best collection of the far superior old school b&m's. I chose seas due to Mako and the variety of the other two models.

  24. Those parks won't have any increases. It was still an increase with Mystic Timbers even though it was one of the hottest summers and one of the wettest springs on record.

  28. Oh wow I had completely forgotten about this somehow lol! I definitely do see how some of this is a bit of a bummer, but like I said above, I really do think this is likely just for this season. It does seem to me that they could have kept this a bit shorter though, not sure what the point is of running it every night the entire season. It's kind of hard to get upset right now though because last season was really more or less a bust and I just really can't wait for saturday lol.

  29. I like the Bea Arthur analogy! I would be the guy towards the right scratching his head wondering why they built this obtrusive lighting truss and video screen that will be used an hour a day. ****Note: I reserve the right to like this live entertainment later if it is better than the concept art.

  32. I never pull out the maps when I get them (I've been going to KI all my life, so I don't need it; there are also electronic maps everywhere). For me, it's what KIghostguy said. It's about collecting; it's a nostalgic thing. When I was a kid, the first thing I did when we got to the park was grab the map and unfold it to look for showtimes, find where the new ride was, etc. I like the idea that I can still do that, and I love that now my kids get just as excited about it. They may be inessential, but for some it's a big part of the experience.

  33. I like to collect them. Plus, I prefer the physical aspect of holding it in my hands versus looking at an image on my phone. I would be legitimately surprised if there’s anyone that wants them to remain electronic for this year.

  34. I really, really hope that we’re back to paper maps this year. I was at Dollywood in March and they were using paper maps, so it’s definitely safe to do.

  37. I mostly agree with you. My only problem with this is they did a lot of really nice theming work on area 72 that this is going to distract from a bit, and I think that's kind of shame considering a lot of people who would normally go to Kings Island probably didn't go last year when it was new. That being said though, I'm not sure why this is so upsetting to some here. It's really not that big of a deal and I'd be surprised if its not just a temporary event for this season.

  40. Thanx for the responses. I’m glad there’s a place to share some park history. Even though it doesn’t seem all that long ago. To address the issue of being allowed to tape or not and music licensing, and the “dynamics” of the process: You’re allowed to record and upload them at Kings Island and Cedar Point. I’ve never been to another Cedar Fair Park. However people have uploaded Canada’s Wonderland’s version of Dead Awakening for example. I’ve been doing it since 2006. Uploading since 2008 to document our time at the parks, for those who can’t go, or who want to relive the experience in some form for posterity’s sake. In fact it’s nice people have done it at KI since I haven’t been able to make it there in a while. I know some of them. I’m a graphic designer. I’ve art directed pro photography and models fwiw. So I like to zoom & pan to frame the compositions and “capture the spirit of the thing”. Give performers close-ups when they take the lead. It’s more dynamic. I overdo it sometimes. Sometimes experimenting. It’s not fun holding a “game film” wide shot. Although that is an informative to see everything the blocking of the showing. I’ve even done “close-up cams” where I zoom in and move the camera around even when people aren’t taking the lead. It interest me since I’ve shot so many shows. I normally don’t edit. So I get one long take. I don’t do it for the performers. They can pay me if they want that ; Nor to meet them or be facebook “friends” ; They can embed vids to share. But not to include my footage in a promo reel. And they don’t do that. A lot of them don’t care who puts them on Youtube or even if they are YouTube. I’ve taken requests a couple times in the distant past at CP. I’ve made some DVD-R’s but not many. Less than a handful of people thank me via YouTube PM’s. Some Moms and Aunts do. Only a few performers. Some performers do in person. The Edgar Alan Poe HalloWeekend performers appreciated it since they didn’t have to attempt it themselves ; I have made some show-goer friends at both parks. A couple have mentioned they do the shows because I did them. Which is nice. Many people have recorded and uploaded since then. Especially once HD cams, broadband Internet speed, faster computers, and mobile devices have become a sign of the times. (Not to mention viewing devices like smart TV’s) When I started doing it back in the day I used a Mac Pro, a $1k cam, and was the first area of Kettering to have DSL (which was much earlier than that but fun to note - along with rebuilt cable TV lol). There are no signs in the parks in fact. Occasionally there are announcements saying it’s strictly prohibited or “For the courtesy of those around you and the performers please silence all electronic devices and ”refrain“ from the use of flash photography and video recording”. That one’s from the Halloween show in Cedar Point’s Palace theatre which is a semi-dark with tables & chairs you can move around. Not regular seating. Rock Band Live was because it was an outside production and was licensed from a video game. (it was more well-received than CP roller coaster enthusiasts ie. non-show goers want to believe or know lol). It was also in a dark indoor theater. Normally they “prohibit” it because so many people have phones these days. Even DSLR’s take vid now. The LCD’s are very bright in that environment. Although if someone’s kid was called on stage from the audience then up pop Mom’s phone for the duration lol My old SONY had a color viewfinder however. I can borrow a canon G20 if I have to. Or put them cam on the seat with the LCD brightness turned down so as not to bother anyone. I’ve had permission from a head usher and requests from performers at CP. The Dead Awakening Ushers were excited to meet the guy put the shows online ; They let me go down after the show and tape Shannon playing dead on the brass bed to get a shot to end the vid with. I ended up not uploading her because she was swimming in Natalie’s costume during her performance she so tiny. Natalie left one show early. So they didn’t have a costume fitted for Shannon. Which surprises me. She was the swing or understudy or backup or whatever you would want to call her in the event Natalie couldn’t do the show. Those ushers asked if I shot the Snoopy ice show. I said I didn’t because they don’t allow it at CP. The ushers said I could have done it at KI. Now they’re not a complete authority either I know that. But they didn’t have a problem with it. They encouraged it ; Helbig’s aware people shoot and upload. He knows most of them. He sat near me while I recorded The County Line in Festhaus the first time and was in parts of the video ; Performers have friends and family record them also. When I taped drum cams and backstage at Cedar Point the drummer said he asked Live E! and they had no problem with it. The writer of the show and a Live E! blue tag were back there. The only thing about recorded songs–or as they say it sometimes on YouTube “musical compositions” ie. even cover songs–the music publishers may monetize it. That’s another practical reason I upload some shows in sections so they can’t monetize an entire show or I’ll leave that section out. Oddly enough sometimes the automated database publishers submit audio that recognizes it or sometimes it doesn’t. I had an upload that recognized Ghouls Gone Wild’s Hungry Like the Wolf Kyle Dobkins sang as a “musical composition”. I had re-uploaded it for a technical reason. It didn’t recognize it that time. In some cases it’ll be what I call a loss leader. ie. OK go ahead monetize the cover song. If people search for and find it then they might watch the rest of the show vids. As far as them making money indirectly off performance. The performers signed their talent releases with Cedar Fair ; They ‘re not big time with that much clout yet ; It’d be kind if Mom’s and Grandma’s gifted me with Best Buy gift Cards in $25 denominations for my efforts lol One thanked me because a performer’s Grandparents weren’t able to make it from NC. Not all music is in the YouTube database. The publishers have to submit it. In some cases live concerts will share monetization vs the recorded song will monetize it. That’s the case for a couple Phil Collins WMMS-FM 80’s radio cassette tapes I uploaded to another channel. If you do mashups then most clips will not monetize the video. Pink Floyd will. It might take half a month to alert you. Don’t use even 10 sec of the Eagles in a mashup though. Blocked in all countries copyright strike! Those guys are jerks ; YouTube does have a database that’s kind of buried so you have to find it that lists songs and tells how they can be used or how they’re licensed for use or non-use on YT. What they don’t say that I could find is “recording” vs “musical composition” A ridiculous one is about 20 obscure publishers monetized an old esoteric song in Skeleton Crew’s sword swallower act. The artist is dead. A lot publishers are leaching off his silly song ; I only mention this extra info because I think it’s interesting and I’ve done this enough times. I hope that explains it. Regardless thanx for letting me share my documentation efforts here. It’s nice when people actually watch the videos ; Not too many do these days. I do it for myself first and foremost anyhow. I watch videos. So I share videos. In the past it’s encouraged others to do the same ;
