  1. Really nice article in Cincinnati’s CityBeat magazine: https://www.citybeat.com/arts-culture/culture/blog/21152292/2021-summer-guide-explore-kings-islands-cincinnati-roots

  2. So had a chance to talk with the park a few minutes ago on International Street. They saw this thread. I can confirm this is NOT new construction for 2022. They have been moving equipment in Action Zone during the week and said it is not being used for new construction.

  3. It got a new air compressor. Not sure about anything else.

  4. Hopefully not. I don't feel like it is all that old and we really need to increase our thrill flats category not decrease/ keep it level.

  5. Definitely a telescoping crane from Piqua Steel Company. These cranes are typically used in construction and maintenance. Not usually demolition. At KI, I would say it was used for something like, lifting a derailed railroad car or a heavy component of an amusement ride. Using it to work on Delirium makes sense.

  6. The crane was used to work on Delirium. Sorry to burst your speculative bubble.

  7. I really don’t think Xtreme Skyflyer would look good in The Vortex plot of land. I don’t think it looks good in Action Zone. I think it is a really ugly ride, but that is just my opinion.

  8. So they’re clearing equipment to make room for the 400ft Gerstlaur in Action Zone /s

  9. A couple things, Cedar Fair has mentioned that they had put a lot of their projects on hold so that could be the weird start of now for construction. In addition to working with Gerstlauer, Ride Entertainment also installs the Skycoaster (i.e. Xtreme Skyflyer). Cedar Point had relocated theirs within the park but it would seem strange to do that when there is seemingly no land clearing anywhere. If you look at the areas of the park that haven't really been improved since Mike Koontz has been GM you have Action Zone, Oktoberfest (ride wise), Planet Snoopy, and Soak City. Is it possible Cedar Fair did a 2 for 1 deal with Gerstlauer where CP gets the coaster and we are getting a flat of some kind? Clearly there is some reason for the crane but it will be interesting to see what happens.

  10. It might be to just make a repair on an existing ride and have nothing to do with 2022. Let's let this play out a bit more before we jump to it being a 2022 project.

  11. With Six Flags Great Adventure unveiling their seasonal Dinosaur Attraction, I began to think about our old attraction, "Dinosaurs Alive." Hypothetically speaking, Kings Island and Cedar Fair could have really capitalized on the whole Dinosaur thing and made it better than it was. Imagine for a moment that Kinzel wanted to go all out with this Dinosaur concept. Again this is all hypothetical. First off I think it would have been neat if DA had its own entrance This would be advantageous for a few reasons: Admission would be cheaper. Even though DA was $5 to get in, that was on top of already paying park admission. You could make money off of people who don't want to go into the main park. A solo dinosaur park with $20 admission might be appealing to school groups, summer camps, families, etc. Secondly, I would make it more than just Dinosaurs. Much like how Disney and Universal have their separate parks, I would replicate that on a much smaller scale. I would include a few buildings for food, merch, exhibits, and so on. Basically make it a permanent attraction vs temporary. I'm sure there would be more to add to this but I'm just brainstorming ideas to something that was done in a temporary fassion.

  12. Coming into the park I saw this construction equipment 8n the parking lot. I wonder what this is for if anything for the future. What are your thoughts?

  13. That's good to hear that it was testing at some point (it would be interesting to see it move without the disk spinning)! Everytime I went by on Saturday, Delirium was closed and not operating.

  15. It's 2024 and the hedge fund that is now running Cedar Fair decides to rightsize the coaster lineup at Kings Dominion. Intimidator 305 is relocated to Kings Island and the park finally gets a giga coaster.

  16. They spent money on Vortex the year before that everyone said was a clue it wasn't going anywhere soon...I forget now if it was hydraulics or something else.

  17. Congo falls is safe right now. I heard they spent some money on it recently to keep it up to date. However, this is a dream thought, but I would love it If they moved it to The Vortex land. It just seems like it's in the middle of nowhere in Action Zone. Just a thought.

  20. For those unaware Annual Passes purchased or renewed through Knotts Berry Farm are being extended into 2022 for the number of days the park is closed this year. Passes from Canada’s Wonderland have already been extended through Labor Day 2022. Nothing is perfect, it would be nice to see all US platinum passes work at Canada’s Winderland and Knott’s during these extension periods but frankly it’s likely difficult. They may still do something for Platinum pass holders, everything keeps changing. But acting like nothing has been done for the individuals at these parks is wrong. Cedar Point needs to use their reservation system to limit park capacity to something which will allow guests a reasonable experience. If one or two rides are creating extremely long uncontrollable lines then have a ride reservation system. I hope Cedar Point finds the employees to be able to operate the park with a reasonable level of service. But they have been having problems during weekend operations at the start and end of the season for years. It just sounds worse then normal.

  23. Rode Poltergeist for the first time earlier this year. We couldn't believe how much smoother it seemed over the others. And I have to say, I prefered no building. It's a beautiful mess of steel to look at and I think it makes the ride less nauseating for some of us.

  24. I don't feel the ride is rough. There is vibration and a few sharp transitions. The final brake run is brutally exhilarating. I'm going to KD on Sunday and will ride their FoF for comparison. My only gripe with FoF is the seats have little leg room.

  25. I feel sorry for KD. It always feels like the clause that BGW had with B&M really hurt KD down the road.

  26. I don’t think it was about the souvenir cup. I think her point is she paid for a locker and got in line, and now she’s being told that she isn’t allowed to wait in line - which would be fair grounds to be upset.

  28. I’m thinking it is what they said it was. Delirium work, maybe the lift belt or boats in Congo falls, if Skyflyer needed work you’d definitely need a crane, or something with Invertigo at the top of the hills. I doubt we see anything this year and probably next year as well. It will be sometime this summer before life resumes most normalcy in over a year. I’m not just talking about Ohio, I mean everywhere.

  31. It may seem a bit early, but I could very easily see Congo Falls taking the plunge at some point this year.

  32. Right no new construction with it. But that does not eliminate it from relocating something like Extreme sky flyer to The Vortex spot. I think that would be a smart move on the park. That would be cool to Swing over the valley that Vortex stood and fly towards The Beast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Maybe Kings Island is finally fixing Banshee’s lighting package. Just kidding, I doubt they would need this big of a crane for that.

  35. Yeah one way or another I would not be surprised to see some contruction of some kind by the time we get to the end of the season. I bet they'll be at the very least updating some more things prior to the anniversary.

  36. Please be for an S&S screamin swing. On a serious note it’s definitely interesting for sure. Based off the notice of commencement it’s definitely possible it could be an attraction that’s been brokered by Ride entertainment (Who does indeed work with gerstlaur). Only issue with that theory is the fact ride entertainment already worked with the park when they replaced the Adventure Express lift hill chain.

  37. While the May opening doesn’t seem to work, Kings Island usually opens at the end of April, so they could have Passholder Preview Weekend at the very end of April, and have the ride officially open in May on Opening Day. I am still not sure that Kings Island will be getting the new Gerstlauer coaster though. At this point, I have no clue which park will get it.

  38. The only part that really leans me away from KI is the fact we just got Orion and the coaster is planned to open in May of next year. Unless, CF wants us opening in May to be permanent moving forward, I just don't see it being us since we usually plan on opening our new coasters in April with the park.

  39. I don’t know. I guess Kings Island is still a possibility because I haven’t really seen any substantial evidence of land clearing at any other park. Kings Island does have an area that is already cleared, but it would be weird to see two coasters addd so close together.

  40. Orion was $30M it's anything but a filler coaster lol

  41. It really could be for anything. Maybe it is for a project for Kings Island 50th anniversary. Maybe it is just for building a new warehouse though.
