  3. I think everyone has shared their opinions. The park opens up for daily operations tomorrow. Let's celebrate the park being open and hope they can return to longer hours and not loose any more! Edit: @bjcolglazier I don't think anyone was complainig about the hours themselves, but how the park handled the communication of the change.

  4. I’ll say this, there are definitely A Lot more security workers visible around the park today.

  9. So they just kick the staffing problems into next year... If the parks don't offer at least the same amount last year, I see the shortage being even greater then. Who likes doing the same job for half what they got paid last year?

  10. @jsus The most important part of the card is the new reporting number on the back for the rest of us. Getting it entered into my contact list now. The old number (800-EAT-S#%T) was not very effective.

  11. I think it's a visual and tactile reminder. I do remember a few years ago, during Halloween Haunt, they had bifold signs in the entry plaza that conveyed the same message. If they hand you something, you might think it is a "surprise award" and you will read it. Plus, for the "good guys", they may make not of the notification number on the back to report. The proof will be in the pudding though...will they do something when the KI Safe number is activated? Will there be ejections/bans/trespassing enforced? Will no smoking become enforced? Line jumpers handled?

  15. I do have to say that I am impressed with Adventure Express this year! I was there on Saturday (before all the issues) and got a ride in. All of the effects were working in the tunnel at the end and the finally fixed that door!

  16. So I've been pretty silent on the subject but I decided after seeing what KI has posted it's time to unload some thoughts. The whole country is hurting for people to work. Kings Island, and Cedar Fair mind you, has implemented a lot of policies and plans to accommodate their staffing issues and they are still hurting. Just based on the video, the subsequent day, and just the environment in general, I believe in the "punish the criminal, not the good intentioned populous". I myself have been to the park solo when I was a minor for years and never did I get in trouble with the park. I always followed the rules, made sure to be polite, and generally be a good patron to the park. I never thought of being a "gang" and picking a fight with another group, and never will. The individuals who acted, started, and harassed other patrons should be barred for an extremely long time and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Make the policies clear, make them open, make them available, make an example of whoever causes a brawl like this. I do not believe we should punish good minded youths due to the acts of a group of individuals who probably need some help. I have seen people get escorted out of the park, it does happen and should happen. I have nothing but extreme respect for security, and to a grander degree our first responders like Lifeguards and EMTS. They put up with some of the worst from people, and I can speak from first hand experience. They care about safety, they work late shifts even to ensure guest safety. I believe that KI should try to employ more security, enforce their policies, and really make statements that even if you are a minor, there are extreme consequences for unruly behavior.

  18. Not my thing. Looks like they merged 80's Saved By The Bell with some atrocious techno music. The audience looked kind of bored most of the time. And the performers are surely blocking the midway--will they be ejected? But...I applaud the park for trying something new. Good news, those like me can avoid this area of the park at that time.

  19. 3 months later…. Mason, Ohio — Mr. Brown has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and will perform 50 hours of community service at Kings Island. The deal stipulates Mr. Brown will work in the entertainment department every Saturday and will perform shows at noon, 2 and 4 re-enacting a classic Peanuts scene.

  21. I think both need to happen. I also think that the KI SAFE number on the back is also just as important as the reminder. Now, if they will actually do something when that number is texted. (I have had several friends who have told me that nothing happened with that number was used, not even an acknowledgement of the report.)

  23. That’s why there is park sweep! LOL! But in all seriousness, people litter their drink cups all over the park everyday, so the sweepers are just going to have one more thing to sweep up if these are littered. This card is actually really good in my opinion because it reminds people there are consequences for their actions. If tempers flare and fighting breaks out, they suffer the consequences.

  27. I just want to say it's glorious to see some of the same people arguing about why the park should not open at all in 2020 or moaning about this rule and that, are now in May 2021 getting all fussy about the park closing 2 hours early. :-) And I mean that genuinely. It's a beautiful thing, I love it! *** IT COULD BE MUCH WORSE ***

  28. I'm at an associate preview event and we are getting a sneak preview of the new Area 72 launch party and let me say, it is excellent and doesn't really ruin the area too much and I think it'll be a hit with the public! I won't go into too many specifics bc I don't want to risk getting into trouble. I will say there is no one dancing on FOF though, but instead there are performers dancing on platforms and on the dance floor! EDIT: Here is a little sneak peak. This is a pic of me and the cast!

  30. The way I read it was they are looking to hire 900 for that position, but I could see where the confusion might come from. Also, I want to point out that, although many of us aren’t exactly happy with how the park has responded (or in some instances, didn’t respond) to the incidents last week, at least they’re putting their money where their mouth is on the staffing issue. Of course, the notorious problem is that some companies raise wages but not budgets, so it’s fewer people doing more jobs or the same amount of people, all getting less hours. I suppose with a large hiring campaign and doubling the hourly pay, if we continue to see understaffing and closed locations we will know the truth.

  33. ^ I am not an expert, but I dont think they afford to pay much more. And they don't want to. They HAVE to. Remember, that $20/hr employee actually costs the company at least $30/hr if not more. That extra money could have been put to much better use paying off the debt the company incurred last year.

  34. The parks are gambling on the J1 visa program being back next year where they can pay international students much less, back to the $10/hr level - it’s a big gamble because they can see via social media that the parks can afford to pay much more if they want to, and may decide not to come to the US in 2022 for less than $18-20/hr.

  38. Probably. I imagine if a group of 100 or so were crowding a midway they’d be asked to move along. Not sure if they’d ever thrown someone out for this, but I’m guessing they’re saying they can.

  43. I think those multi inverting coasters like Steel Curtain by S&S look cool but I hear it doesn't run well. I personally don't know if the alleged downtime is a Kennywood thing or an S&S thing. As long as it doesn't have bad downtime and has good capacity I'm down for any manufacturer Cedar Fair has recently worked with, with exception to Gerstlauer. For some reason I feel like Gerstlauers should be built in smaller parks.
