  1. You're supposed to use echolocation to navigate the queue after dark. I figured that was pretty obvious.

  2. @DonHelbig I was the at park yesterday and just want to acknowledge all the great work put into The Racer. The re-tracking makes a big difference in ride comfort. I love the old style graphics on the front of the trains and the simple RACER sign on the facade. Great work!

  3. I agree, Orion is a front row ride. It's the premier row where all elements of Orion are at their best. For me, it's the first drop, the feel of the hurricane force wind in my face, and the speed hill.

  4. I came back in here to do a revision of the initial review I did last July 14th. Anyone who has known me since I got here in 09 knows I am in no way afraid to call anyone on their BS regardless of who they are... some more than others... and that goes for myself as well. I was at the park from 1040 until 2100 last night, and rode Orion 4 additional times. Yesterdays and last evenings rides absolutely changed a lot of my thoughts on the ride. The additional weight of operating with full trains has made an incredible difference as I am sure all have noticed, and the fact that the trim was just barely touching (thank you to the park for that) made Orions belt a great feeling helix with the now very noticeable increase in speed as the train traverses through it. I was fortunate enough to get rides in rows 1 and 8 as well as rides in 4 and 5, and it's just a completely better ride now in all facets. The two elements that I thought were the shining stars of the ride... the drop and the twisted hill prior to the rise into the brake run... still hold true, and I was correct when I said the airtime in that element would be absolutely mental with fully loaded trains and no trim! This next part will mean jack-squat to people who aren't car enthusiasts or racers, I initially called it the Bentley GT of the "giga" category, in that the Bentley GT is called a supercar simply of its design and price point, but in some ways trying to fight above its weight class so to speak. Now, I will most definitely put it in the McLaren 570 slot... not the end all but DEFINITELY worthy of the class. We as racers say "If I do my job, and the car does its job, we've got this win". Well, Im not at all afraid to say I mis-spoke last year, and that Orion most certainly "does its job" and does it darn well.

  7. It is hauling with the full trains. We had 1p rides over the last two days, 7 in the back row. So good. The drop is still the star, but every element on it is so much fun. It has jumped Leviathan for me with these full train rides.

  8. Im going to run the Ride Forces program next time I decide to go, and see if it shows enough of a difference in front vs back to verify any difference between hard numbers and the perception caused by the view and wind in the front.

  9. Ha! I think I remember having a rib sandwich from the stand under the Dragster bleachers in like 2003. I wasn't sure until the posts above confirmed what used to be there.

  12. I think the blueprints are for something new, but it could be anything from a restaurant to a new ride. I don’t think the blueprints are for anything major like a rollercoaster, but I do think they could be for something new. I really hope Kings Island does a big 50th anniversary announcement like Cedar Point did, and if so, I can’t wait for that.

  13. ^There used to be an amazing hoagie stand under those stands that I miss a lot. I also think we need a RT Freestyle Stand thread for if it's open or not.

  14. That;'s cool how they converted the area under Dragster's bleachers into a Freestyle stand!

  15. I was busy yesterday….Counting. 1.. 2… 3… 4… 5… 5! 5 open Freestyle Stands! If “the other park” can have 5 open Freestyle Stands then surely KI should have no problem keeping a measly 2 open. You can do it KI! Keep up the good work!

  17. I still think I fall under the camp of these blueprints just being something they had on hand that is probably already complete and they are blurring them just because not necessarily because they are trying to hide anything. Very few companies if any walk around throwing blueprints around like free candy.

  19. I think the blueprints are notable, but I don’t think we can draw any conclusions as to what they are for. The truss structure could be for the roof of any building for all we know. I honestly hope these blueprints are for a front gate renovation.

  20. Per their social media channels, the park has announced that the third party carnival rides previously slated for Ballon Glow will not be appearing due to a scheduling conflict. If only there was a way they could have rides available to the public during large events like these… It’s almost as if they make these decisions using a blindfold and a dart board.

  21. I would love to see a large immersive dark ride for Kings Island’s 50th anniversary. I think there is a very good chance we get a new ride for next year like Cedar Point and Knott’s Berry Farm did for their anniversaries, but I don’t think it would be a coaster or anything major like that. A new immersive dark ride might be pushing it, but Cedar Point really went all out with Snake River Expedition.

  22. I thought I laid out the issues from start to finish to be easily understood. I tried very hard and I am sorry I failed yet again. We are moving on from this.

  23. I think the point others are trying to make is; you see markers, some brush cut down, and some holes in the ground and jump to it's a new coaster. There is no entertaining any other ideas being a possibility. Then you go and write an article representing said work as a coaster coming as fact. People start sharing the misleading information thinking it is coming true. Next the news starts calling the park, looking on KIC and contacting admins to see what is actually going on. Then the park and KIC are forced to do damage control. There is a reason why KIC has a general discussion forum, a rumors forum, and a newsroom forum. Until we know something as fact from the park, I will never put an article out that is not true or misleading in the newsroom section of the forums.

  24. Calling the removal of some trees inside Timberwolf "land clearing" is being overdramatic. You want clicks on the website you prognosticate for. I guess it could be correct, but if that is the case, when I pull a weed from my garden, I have also been doing some land clearing. "extremely overgrown" is overdramatic. The facility sees limited use. So, after about 15 months of non use, of course vegetative growth is going to be excessive. So would it be on Internationall Street, Coney Mall, Rivertown, Kings Mills Auto Mall or your residence. The flags and paint from last year are a moot point until further information comes forward. Maybe they will demolish this section of the park, maybe they won't. Only time will tell. Your hypothesis may or may not be correct, but you act like yours is the only thing that can happen. Be reasonable.

  25. I noticed last week, or maybe two weeks ago, that one of The Bat trains seemed to have had a worn out, uneven, or loose wheel in the back and you could clearly hear it rattling or bouncing along the track in the exit area as The Bat flew by, so maybe said poster happened to be there on a day they pulled it offline to replace or fix wheel. I have seen The Bat running two trains more than I have seen the Rivertown FreeStyle open

  26. Took my first trip to Kings Island a few weeks back and really enjoyed it, really lucked out with the weather. I really love the atmosphere and more relaxed nature compared to my home park of Cedar Point. Orion is a incredibly fun and re-rideable roller coaster that certainly grew on me as I rode it more. The first drop is amazing and the speed and twisted airtime hills were awesome. My only critiques with the ride are that the first two elements ,while cool don’t do a whole lot considering the speed and momentum they had available. If the first element was more akin to a RMC wave turn, and the turn around was profiled to give similar positive, and negative G forces like Fury’s treble clef the ride would feel more complete. I really love the redone area around Orion and Flight of Fear, very nice themeing and amazing soundtrack by Imascore. Looks to be much better than what X-base was. Orion in general is probably my favorite looking coaster, couldn’t keep my eyes off the darn thing the whole time I was there. Considering the Lukewarm feelings surrounding this ride,I was waking in expecting a great but not blow my socks off amazing ride. I walked away with my expectations met and somewhat exceeded. I understand and agree with some of the criticisms, but in the end I think the best way to experience this ride is to appreciate it for what it is, rather than what it could have been. I hope to be back there soon to enjoy Orion and the park more, especially at night.

  29. Camp Cedar was DEFINITELY behind on construction. There must really be material shortages because I noticed a whole new structure that has gone up within the last week. I really hope that this structure and everything else can be finished in time for its opening later this week. I am also very interested to hear people’s thoughts on Camp Cedar once it opens.

  30. Why is it his responsibility to staff the park? He was offered a package of events when purchasing his pass. He shelled out the money and it’s the park’s responsibility to deliver these products. If it weren’t for the fact that this season was “free” there would be some very good grounds for a class action lawsuit if they cancelled Haunt. No judge in the world would take pity on them for taking everyone’s money and then not delivering on what’s advertised because of “staffing.”

  31. I was at the park yesterday & it looks like Blackout isn’t returning (the facade was painted over). What could be replacing it?! I would love to see a new pirate maze be placed there to tie in with the SZ. Also, do you think they will be retiring Urgent Scare after the events of last year (and the fact it’s been there the longest)?
