  1. Look folks, here are some facts. Everyone knows I enjoy coasters for the same reason I enjoy drag racing and kart racing, and why the only motorcycles I enjoy are (usually highly modified) sportbikes.... to get me amped up and my heart rate high and when its over leave me out of breath and sometimes thinking "What the Hell just happened there in those 2 minutes or less?" However, even though I will not hesitate for one second to admit I "defend intense coasters" regardless of manufacturer (Yes folks, I will happily defend the first B&M that can actually give me the feelings I described here IF they are ever able to make one), I also feel that doing something ludicrous to simply set some stupid meaningless record while disregarding the life and safety of a human is asinine and if it is determined that Fuji-Q did this then by all means go after them. My issue with demonzing this particular ride in this case is this statement here..."Early speculation is that the injuries are due to passengers leaning forward in the seat at launch". IF this turns out to be the root cause of the injuries, anyone with a rational mind SHOULD be able to realize that it was the humans, not the device. How about this... anyone on this site who can say they have NEVER played the game of cat and mouse with the Dragster ride ops to be able to throw their arms up right at launch speak up now. Hmmm, yep, crickets just as I expected. We have ALL done that, myself included, because its simple human nature and if I happened to have my arm, neck, or back injured because of it Id own it and say "Yep, they warned me and I played the game thinking the juice was worth the squeeze and was wrong, my bad" instead of running to dial 1-800-CALL KEN or other ambulance chaser.

  2. Saw this posted on Facebook. Do you have memories of the monorail or was it before your time?

  3. According to RCDB it had a capacity of 1,100 riders per hour, which if you want a comparison is 100 people per hour less than The Bat's capacity. In theory this capacity could be increased if you added more block zones before and after the station to allow more trains. I think if they could get rid of the pain people experienced it would be a cool, clonable concept that would be reminiscent of what Premier did with their Spaghetti Bowls.

  4. Extreme launch coaster that acts as a 'portal' to the other side of the park. Think TTD but instead of straight up and around it would be a huge airtime hill out of the launch and you'd 'land' in the other side of the park. It would be all acceleration and air time in a straight line. Of course, you'd need a mirror image of it going the other way as well, and people would end up on the other side-introducing a host of other problems, but a ride like that would be an amazing experience and dominate the skyline.

  5. And I can (fondly) remember the days when Pat and Will (RIP) and later Dan would be right out in the park on the midways or wherever else, working side by side with the rank and file when they were short staffed.... or even when NOT short staffed. How many people remember seeing Pat out daily picking trash up from the midways or doing other things most members of park management or ownership would see as beneath them. Sigh, I miss those days. I was hoping to get to HW at least one more weekend before season end, but now with these developments I am second guessing that. I sadly new this was coming, and Im just going to tell everyone now to be prepared for 2022 to be 2020 all over again in regards to restrictions and Draconian limitations for the park going public.

  6. Actually it was 9 for $45 (for season pass holders) ($5 per taste). With how successful it was it's no surprise that it would go up in price with the supply-demand. With such a large rise I would expect slightly larger portions. Either way with the state of the culinary team at KI, I'm in and looking forward to it.

  7. Hi, I live 10 mins from Holiday World. They have been limiting which attractions are open depending on the time of day for the past 2 weekends at least. This mainly has to do with the teen workers returning to school and their availability decreasing significantly. This hasn’t affected the roller coasters aside from The Legend running only one train operations. But it has greatly affected flat ride availability. Last Sunday Firecracker, Liberty Launch and Revolution operated until 1:30 then Firecracker and Revolution closed for the day to allow Rough Riders and Lewis And Clark Trail to open. Hallowswings, Crow’s Nest and Mayflower have all been closed the past few times I’ve went as well. All due to labor shortages

  8. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually like the more family oriented approach. I like how Tricks and Treats Fall Fest throughout the entire park instead of just The Great Pumpkin Fest in Planet Snoopy. I know some people miss the mazes, and I understand that. I wish Kings Island would focus on building mazes that are outside of the midways and hidden from the rest of the park. Since Wolf Pack is not returning, I kind of hope the old Son of Beast is demolished because it is an eyesore in my opinion.

  9. The Beast is fine if you ride on rows 1 or 2 of any of the train's six cars, its that rear row of each car that gives you the shakes. That being said, so long as the ride was kept wood and true to its original layout—I would love to see it get a full overhaul that provided something like... • Nice re-tracking and re-profiling where needed. • Some sleek new trains that provide more comfort and smoother ride + a refreshed visual style. • Some nice refreshing of the station—clean up that olde queue line a bit, make it a bit more spacious, give a fresh look to the theming of the station. All that being said, I think The Racer deserves some true love before The Beast... gleaming new paint job, new beautiful trains, synchronized racing, a nice light package along the course, fully revamped track, etc.

  10. It's pretty clear from what the ODA inspectors have released that something did make contact with the track itself. We also know that it's a rather small area - in the realm of 25' - of track impacted. They didn't specify the exact location but it sounds like the plate came loose right around the finish line, as green train was headed into the static (fixed, not retracting) brake fins. From all the information, it seems that either one or both bolts/screws failed, causing the L-shaped flag plate to come loose. We don't know the exact speed at the point the plate came loose but the train was probably still around 100 mph. At that speed, (yes, it's slowing down, but let's ignore that for simplicity), the train would cover about 150 ft / second. 25' of track damage sounds like one or both screws/bolts came loose, causing the plate in question to lower slightly, likely rotating around one fastener. It hit the track for a split second before becoming a projectile toward the queue. That's just speculation based on all of the information that has been released so far, of course.

  11. Any post with the suggestion of replacing wood track for steel on The Beast is a direct violation of the terms of service in KICentral forums if I’m not mistaken, surely it’s in the fine print.

  12. My youngest got his first ride on Beast this year. (Finally hit 48") It is now good favorite in the park.

  13. I was excited earlier this summer when my daughter enjoyed Beast in 8+ years and said: "Dad, Beast is great. There is nothing else like it!" -Brown- proud father of an enthusiast daughter.

  14. How about we instead get a ground up RMC and leave The Beast a wood coaster?

  15. In addition to not sitting properly. It sounds stupid and dumb to say that, but if you are leaning forward and or left/right over the restraint, you could have 1-2 feet of separation between your back and the seatback, so hitting that in under 2 seconds over 100mph can cause some damage, and most people do not think of that sitting on a coaster like that. They will probably have to end up putting OTSR on it....

  16. Yep-I shuttered myself for over a year. Worked from home while trying to 'teach' my kids. Didn't go out to eat, see a movie or concert, go to a bar, or have Christmas or Thanksgiving with my extended family. Now we have vaxxes that for the vast majority make this similar to a nasty cold. If people want to still be extra cautious, then by all means do what you see fit to protect you and yours. Personally, I feel that this has been in the hands of the individual ever since they opened everything last Spring because Karen needed a haircut. It is the same now except it is flipped. If you're vaxxed and you're outside, you're pretty safe...if you still don't feel safe you can choose to not go.

  17. Or it now makes it a HIPAA violation as it now allows that report to be tied to a particular person, but you have adamantly posted that you clearly disagree with that opinion, which is shared by many medical professionals here and elsewhere that have commented on her report...I guess time will tell if she loses her license. And if she does, we know you will not agree with it... Remember, with a professional license, one can violate a condition of that license and lose said license, even if the violation isn't a HIPAA violation. From the Ohio Board of Nursing: Merely removing someone’s name (or face, in the instance of images) from a communication does not necessarily protect that person’s identity. Under federal law (HIPAA), protected “individually identifiable information” includes health information that identifies the individual or can reasonably be used to identify the individual, in any form (oral, written, or otherwise) that relates to the past, present, or future physical or mental health of an individual. "A nurse licensed in Ohio who is determined by the OBN to have failed to comply with any of these rules based on the improper use of social media, texting, emailing, or any other form of communication is subject to disciplinary action by the OBN. The use of social media carries with it much responsibility. Please be aware of your responsibilities and professional obligations and how its use may impact you.” In addition to it being a condition of the license, it is in the Ohio Administrative Code - Rule 4723-4-06 | Standards of nursing practice promoting patient safety: (Q) For purposes of paragraphs (I), (J), (K), (L), and (M) of this rule, a nurse shall not use social media, texting, emailing, or other forms of communication with, or about a patient, for non-health care purposes or for purposes other than fulfilling the nurse's assigned job responsibilities. Given the national headlines this accident made, I think most will agree that her report can be reasonably used to identify the individual and tie it back to her now that her name is made public...in addition to being a violation of the social media policy for a nursing license. But let's move forward and let the Licensing Board debate and act on this one.

  18. I disagree, respectfully. First off, the parks have been crowded this year. People are getting out to do things after everything being shuttered, and/ or masks required last year kept people from doing a lot of the things they would normally do over summertime. Personally, I also think that the parks do what they can to protect people, but beyond that, the responsibility is on each person. The park hasn't said no masks allowed, they said no masks required. The park said to socially distance in lines, the park said wear a mask indoors if you're not vaccinated. What else can they really do? Taking no responsibility would be letting it be a free for all, telling people they aren't allowed to wear a mask, and not posting masks required for anyone indoors non vaccinated. I'm not anti mask, I'm not anti vaccine... I am however pro personal responsibility. If you're in a place where yourself, or someone you live with are at grave danger of perishing from the virus, you need to take some responsibility for yourself. While spending a day at the park is fun, and a great release, it's not a life necessity. The grocery store holds life's necessities, and a lot of them here in Indy have started requiring masks again, for this very reason. They provide a necessary service, and thusly, they are taking responsibility for making their staff and patrons safe. The corner pub, Applebees, McDonalds... those aren't life necessities. If you're in a position where it's not smart for you to be in public, don't go to them. Take care of your friends or family that are compromised.

  19. I will not comment on any of your opinions…but as for this, it is up to both the employees & the park’s customers to decide whether they feel if it is a safe environment…no one is forcing either of them to be at the park. People need to take responsibility for their own choices.

  20. now we have coronavirus as bad as it’s ever been even though we have vaccinations And the theme parks have their eyes and ears covered like nothing is wrong. I believe that Cedar Fair, six flags, and sea world will be bankrupt within a year because of the continued upward trend of this virus And they probably deserve it since they are taking no responsibility to protect their employees and customers now

  21. It's 2024 and the hedge fund that is now running Cedar Fair decides to rightsize the coaster lineup at Kings Dominion. Intimidator 305 is relocated to Kings Island and the park finally gets a giga coaster.

  22. Disregard. This reply was intended for the "they probably deserve" comment which really hit a nerve with me. Not telling anyone what to do, just a prudent middle ground. Or something. I'll take my 2 cents back and exit the conversation.
