  1. Agreed! The parade was nice and I'm glad they ended up doing it last night as the weather was indeed questionable (rain on and off - in fact, I rode Shake Rattle and Roll and Snow Works (tubing slide) in a downpour lol). Despite the weather, I had a blast celebrating my birthday at the park. It was great to enjoy time with friends as well as say hi to a lot of people I know from the park. Ridewise, the highlight of my night was Flight of Fear. It was so good to come back to that 90's coaster (I hadn't been to the park since August) and most of my 5 rides were fantastic! Also, I really like the glowing "flowers" around Area 72 and especially inside the two stations. Speaking of rides, my first ride on Mystic Timbers was the first time I've ridden any ride with a mask. Yes, it slid around, but it did not come off (and yes, I definitely felt the force on my face when sitting in the front of Flight of Fear). I think that'll be my last trip for the season and it was surely a great one!

  2. A huge THANK YOU to the park for performing a modified version of the WinterFest Wonderland Parade tonight despite the iffy weather. It was such a pleasant surprise!

  3. Winterfest is definitely Dr Jeckyll Mr Hyde as far as crowds influenced by weather. Saturday was miserably crowded. Sunday was empty. Virtually everything was running/performing on Sunday despite the weather. I was surprised the parade happened. That’s the way to get customers to come on questionable weather days. Not closing the place down as some parks do (Kennywood, Kings Dominion, Carowinds)

  4. I appreciate all the little refreshes throughout many of the shows this season. Last night we noticed that Charlie Brown's Christmas Spectacular appears to have a new lighting design that brings some extra life to the show, like during the "sleigh ride" with Sally and Linus. Also, it looks like the stage deck of the Kings Island Theater has been redone. I remember looking fairly worn in previous years. All of this things add up ( like the new Mistletones set as well as the new signage and lighting to draw attention to Sounds of the Nativity) and it is great to see the park putting some extra thought and care into such an important part of what makes WinterFest so special. As others have said, this year's event feels as bright and alive as ever!

  5. I agree. While a paint chip may seem inconsequential to some... a bolt, or a piece of wood or a piece of track tubing may seem just as inconsequential to others. I readily shelled out the $ for the Eiffel Tower and glad I had a chance to do it. I think its fun and quirky.

  6. Made an intamin blitz concept. Basically a mix of Velocicoaster and Pantheon. The entrance would be on a new pathway that goes around Shake, Rattle, and Roll. This would be a heavy terrain based coaster. I give you Speed Demon!

  7. It is more than a chip of paint. This collectible kit includes a Limited Edition "Coaster Cutout" of Kings Island's Eiffel Tower, an authentic paint chip in a stand-up display, a certificate of authenticity signed by Kings Island's executive vice president and general manager Mike Koontz, and a limited edition postcard set. It's a collectible that some may want, like similar other memorabilia they sold like bolts of Son of Beast and track pieces of Vortex. By itself, the bolt wasn't that expensive. If the Eiffel Tower isn't your jam, then don't buy it LOL. Just like some passed on other memorabilia sold like The Vortex piece, but Vortex sold out quickly even at its price point. Some people want a piece of history and I think it is great the park is offering these things up for those that would like them.

  9. A quick watch: Always cool to see footage of such a beloved attraction!

  10. The helix didn’t have the gradual banking back then. Looked a lot more aggressive. I honestly can’t wait for this retrack, The Beast absolutely beat me up on my last ride and it is sadly my least favorite adult coaster at KI right now. Hopefully this puts it in the right direction! Also just to clarify, the drop and the helix were the two roughest parts of the ride. Guess there was a lot of people who noticed this.

  11. But different braking system. Skid vs magnet. One is adjustable, the other is not without physically adding material.

  12. I am at the ACE holiday party. Don has confirmed that the park is planning on going retro with the paint on Racer, it is planned to be red, white, and blue.

  14. It’s a 90 minute limit. It was done by someone else this year. I agree - it’s better this way. I’m not going to name names because I’m not sure how much that want to be “in front of the camera” but their style is definitely my preferred taste. What did they do different with the parade?

  15. The park seems to have recovered really well from COVID. I am still waiting to see what is going to be the next addition. Seems like Cedar Fair has been on a removal trend for awhile and has some gaps to fill.

  16. Even if they were different systems, they served the same purpose being in the same spots. Another thing people have to realize is that Beast probably uses one of the heaviest trains on a wooden coaster out there. Even with the lower track with it being a terrain coaster, that's a lot of wear and tear through the corners.

  17. Here are a couple of quasi-Easter egg things I noticed this year that kind of impressed me: When I-Street does the fake snow (Let It Snow), the intelligent lighting goes off of the ice and projects snowflakes onto the buildings. Additionally, the buildings all do the blue “ice” color without much variation. Kind of near! Also, the pixel mapped lighting on the trees is synced up with the parade. It doesn’t match the colors (as that would be impossible with each parade having its own color scheme) but it does match the beat of the music and transition when the music does. It’s not something many people would notice but it add a lot to the ambiance. Anyone know why they don’t throw candy until the second show stop? That’s been my consistent experience. Weird, huh? Overall, Winterfest, while it will never be perfect, is an A+ experience this year.

  18. He also shared that they are working on returning the raised lettering on the front of the trains to replace the stickers that were installed this past year. They are trying to make Racer just like it was when it was new. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Good call out! Surprised no one mentioned it. Yes it looks nice.

  21. He acknowledged the photos but also basically stated the park is not ready to discuss anything about retracking work, and would share more information later. Gravity Group did a presentation and they confirmed they are working on The Beast but said nothing about what they are doing on the project. Overall not a lot.

  22. It is interesting that you mention that Winterfest feels better with a decent crowd because I completely agree. I feel like everyone wants Kings Island to be completely dead when they visit, but even in the summer, I feel like when Kings Island is dead, the atmosphere and excitement are lowered tremendously. Call me crazy, but when I go to Kings Island, I prefer there to be some crowds, especially for an event like Winterfest.

  23. They should eliminate the magnetic brake that slows the coaster down immediately after the first drop before the drop into the ravine. Then, use the ravine's full depth and come out higher, right turn at 90 degrees, and then drop and add a camelback where the shed is (eliminating that whole dull stretch).

  24. Made another blitz concept. Can't really come up with a name, but I'll say it's basically themed around LED lights and has a giant tower with LED spotlights in the center

  25. I prefer the layout of the second one but gimme the tunnel from the first.

  27. **DOUBLE POST** I made a more custom Intamin multi launch/blitz layout that follows the terrain. It features a double down out of the station which is a first for the blitzes and it also features a zero g roll station flythrough similar to Lech Coaster at Legendia. Basically is a crossover of Velocicoaster and some Mack and Vekoma like elements. The queue would start in the arcade building and go down into the valley and snake up to the station.
