  1. The 50th will be a great year. The 150 CP Anniversary was pretty awesome and Cedar Fair will do well with the one at KI. We can all wish for different things but looking back on park history can't we just stand back and say yes we are amazed at what the Wachs and Taft Broadcasting accomplished in the early 1970s? I mean they built such a great park and while time has caused certain attractions so fade away, we still have a lot of history in the park and hopefully that's all recognized during the anniversary. I would love to see signs outside the ques of all the original opening day rides to let people know this is a park original. Now as for the Controversial topic about Cedar Fair keeping Kings Island down, I can't say I totally agree about that. Here's why, since aquiring Kings Island, Cedar Fair has relocated or built 5 rollercoasters at the park (Firehawk, Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, & Orion) In that same time frame, Cedar Fair has built/rebranded 5 rollercoasters at Cedar Point (Maverick, GateKeeper, Rougarou, Valraven, Steel Vengeance). Both Firehawk and Rougarou to me were temporary attractions. With Firehawk being the oldest it makes sense it closed first but trust me, when CP needs that space Rougarou is gone too. You may argue that CP got coaster types we didn't have (aka dive, winged, rmc hybrid, floorless) but you have to look at what we had before their management. We gained new coaster types too (aka Hyper, Inverted, Flying, and Giga). MT to me was the only one we already had something similar but sometimes you need to invest in that 48" generation seeing as they knew Vortex was on its last leg and I'm assuming the old Top Gun (now The Bat) won't be far behind. So when arguing that CF has kept us down I would say NOT AT ALL! Yes as a park CP is probably better but as someone else pointed out they have to attract tourism while we are a local park. It's just a different market. Mike Koontz has a good head on his shoulders and has done a ton for KI during his time and we all owe him a huge thanks for bringing KI out of the slump Paramount had put it in. I do agree that Vortex needs a replacement and I'm sure Koontz knows that too but now is not the time. Obviously there's other parks they need to invest in and money I'm sure is tight because of Covid. HEY DID EVERYONE FORGET THAT FREE YEAR OF SEASON PASSES!!?? Think about how much money they lost because THEY DID THE RIGHT THING! I will always be loyal to Cedar Fair for that reason if not for anything else.

  2. They could easily add it back during a Planet Snoopy update and still have movement through there. I agree with another member who posted in this thread. It was like a portal that took you to another land. That is what they are missing. The immersion of themed areas. That is why Universal and Disney do so well. KI needs to separate Planet Snoopy and Rivertown again as well as isolate other areas.

  3. Rumor is the flywheel launch on Montezuma is being replaced by either LIM or LSM. There is a similar ride in Europe that had similar work done a few years ago by Gerstlauer, they used LIM’s on that.

  4. This time I made a Mack launch concept for the plot. I have it themed basically after the Miami River Brewhouse and I have the station basically themed to a Brewing house (ie Sonder Brewing) basically the backstory is similar to Copperhead Strike with the moonshine, but this time it is themed around Lager and how something happened in the brewhouse causing the brewhouse to be abandoned (kinda like Mystic/Twisted Timbers story line. I also relocated the gliders to where Vortex's station was to give Coney Mall a ride there and renamed it Flying Eagles to pay homage to the original ride. Not in this picture, but like in my Rivertown concept in that thread, a new building would go where the basketball game and the current pathway to backlot currently stand and a new path to Backlot would go by Jukebox and the basketball game would be relocated to Action Zone or where the ladder game is by Hanks. The plot where Gliders sits now would be the new home of Linus Launcher and the flume would be readded to Rivertown and a new stage would go where Linus is currently. This is just a concept and I don't speak for the company in any way and have no inside information.

  5. Knott's posted on Facebook today that Montezuma's Revenge will undergo extensive renovation and will not open at all in 2022 (except the days from now until 1-9-2022). It was under renovation when I visited in 2017 in February and wasn't expected to open until much later in 2017. Intresting that two major reno's will take place in 5 years.

  6. 20-ish years ago record breakers were a big deal, not so much nowadays- except for enthusiasts. For most, 300' coaster allure is unfortunately watered down today- which I think is crazy but look at the data: it took 10 years for the 2nd giga to be built in the states and only and only 7 are currently operating worldwide. In 2006 (just a few years after TTD debuted), Dick Kinzel was quite vocal that it was the worst business decision he ever made & that 50% of park goers would not ride TTD. Other parks obviously agree given only 2 stand today. Guest experience & convenience has taken over for record breaking coasters when it comes to drawing in guests. I expect in the coming years new(er) technology to be used in rides more than record breakers.

  7. Cedar Fair or the parks add whatever will get them the greatest ROI not because they favor one park over another. If they thought a dippin dots stand would make them millions Im sure we see those instead of roller coasters installed.

  8. It really is so great to see the organ being restored. The speaker play over really just isn't the same as the real thing. So glad!

  9. And it would go right through the elevator shaft on the tower which would not work unfortunately.

  10. While I love the idea of a ferris wheel I would prefer a sky ride like what we used to have. I actually did some math through Google maps and found that if KI were to build a new entry building and place a skyride station at the top it could go over the center of the fountains, through the 50ft platform of the tower, over stunt coaster and decend right into the spot The Vortex station used to be. Now that is a view I would wait in line for everyday! Plus a great way to get to and from the front and back of the park!

  11. BUMP! So, I finally totaled my rides for the season and it was a strange year... not as strange as 2020, but a weird one for me indeed. I attended Opening Day, when I first rode Orion and started to get back in the swing of going to the park again since I had not gone at all in 2020. Throughout the next few months, I enjoyed rides, Carnivale, the Area 72 dance party and (especially) Busker Jam, until I got COVID in mid-August. Because of this, I took some time off from the park, but made one last visit for my birthday in December. That being said, here are my most ridden rides this year: My top 3 ridden coasters of 2021 were Orion (12 times), The Bat (10 times), and Flight of Fear (7 times - mostly thanks to those 5 rides I took on my birthday!) My most ridden flat was Delirium (4 times) and as I was looking through my ride count, I noticed there were quite a few flats that I didn't get a chance to ride at all this season, such as MSD (Monster/Scrambler/Dodgem), Viking Fury, and (presumably?) all the water rides. Though I did not ride Slingshot (and haven't done so for years due to the "no single riders" rule), I did manage to ride Xtreme Skyflier once this season and that was fun. EDIT: Also, I rode all the coasters at least once this season except for Woodstock Express and Great Pumpkin Coaster (obviously!)

  12. That would be CINCINNATI. And there is a lot more to do than KI, chili, ball and IKEA.

  13. Honestly, I'd rather see them change BLSC into this and then do a brand new coaster as a new type elsewhere. Think the layout of BLSC would work decent for a launched Pony Express type ride, just needs new trains and theming. Wouldn't be a super cheap/easy change, but would be easier and cheaper than a whole new attraction. Plus it would freshen up that whole area having something more appealing to look at from Coney Mall, IS, and Rivertown.

  18. Agreed. There’s a few people in the world who are capable of restoring these organs. It’s fantastic the park is able to restore a gem of an organ.

  19. Knott's thrives at being a true theme park so I don't think adding huge thrilling coasters like Magic Mountain does a lot for the park. On the other hand, just sticking with family rides also won't help; its a gray area. When I think of Knott's and what new thrilling coasters they could add, I can only think of one thing- smaller and compact. There are a handful of thrilling coasters that would fit this criteria like freespins and sky rockets. However SFDK has those two coasters in the bay area and SWSD has a sky rocket of its own. To be honest I don't know what coaster fits the Knott's mold. Some rides that come to mind are Sandy's Blasting Bronco or Timmy's Half-Pipe Havoc but those are Intamins and I don't know how Cedar Fair feels about working with them again. With that being said however, I think they're small enough to deserve a chance- unless of course Mack could make something similar.

  21. I found some footage posted by NizzleToob that shows the walkway at 1:30. It also has some great footage of/from the skyride.

  22. Most don't know/remember that there were spray misters inside the arbor. They weren't always on, but on hot days they often had at least 2 going. It was the first park I ever saw with them. As a result, the pavement often stayed wet inside of it. Kings Dominion followed suit and later installed 2, around the time they added Diamond Falls, to the sign entrance to the Congo area.

  23. As a kid I loved that covered walkway. I would walk back and forth thru it . . seemed like a magical gateway to me . One end you can see and hear the sounds of International street, and go through the walkway to the sites/sounds of Rivertown to what I think you can see the log ride. To a small kid it just seemed you were going to two separate worlds.
