  1. Wasn't previously shown here, that and it's been on the Kings Island Instagram for the past week, but they provided a slightly different angle. It's further back, but you can see more of the track than the one they posted elsewhere. Looks just as good!

  2. An hour later the park posts another photo of it!

  3. The Festhaus as it is does really well for the park based on how many people eat there. I really do like the concept of a Harmony Hall at Kings Island, but I think it is more realistic that Kings Island builds a separate dining hall similar to Harmony Hall than converting the Festhaus into one. Appearance wise, the Festhaus has recently undergone many improvements with a patio added to the back, a new facade, and now some interior refurbishments. New shows and better food options would be nice, but based on how the building is set up, it may be hard to have as many food locations as Harmony Hall without major renovations and maybe a sacrifice of seating.

  4. So for those who missed the article or didn’t know how this worked in the first place: although Sweet Spot operated as a quasi-restaurant since its inception, those were Merchandise employees working in there. The famous Kings Island fudge was made in house along with a few things in the display case. Most of the rest came from vendors. Chef is announcing that the food department, specifically the new pastry chef Belen Caire, will be taking over the location and making much of the sweet treats from scratch. I do not know what the mix of vendor vs home made treats will be, but I imagine it will be greatly improved. Over all excellent news! Update: My apologies. I was trying to find photos of the pastries from NYE so you could see Belen’s handiwork. Unfortunately I took tons of photos of the food but NONE of the deserts! Just take my worked for it that everything was well presented and incredibly delicious! I had a s’mores cupcake that was to die for!

  5. Killer topic bump. Kings Island is severely lacking in the dark ride department. It’s a glaring issue given the history of their past dark ride attractions leading up to Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle. In turn, Boo Blasters comes across as pretty lame. It’s not the worst dark ride on the world, but in comparison to the former occupants of the space it certainly doesn’t live up to the standards of the past. So… what would I do? Well, I don’t know if Planet Snoopy is the ideal location for a traditional, haunted house style dark ride. The space would be prime for a sort of revival of The Smurf’s Enchanted Voyage but with the Peanuts characters. Each scene would highlight the different seasons/holiday celebrations. It’s a great concept that would highlight the popularity of the Peanut TV specials. I’m posting they could include the shooting aspect of the attraction since it seems to be popular enough. Who wouldn’t want to shoot Snoopy? A second dark would do well in Coney Mall. This could cover the haunted house gap left by the removal of Boo Blasters. It could be generic, or tied in with an IP. RL Stine has a storied history with the park. It’d be cool to see either an original or existing story adapted into a dark ride. This is from 2008, but I’d be curious to see if Sally has the ability to create these attractions: https://www.attractionsmanagement.com/index.cfm?pagetype=products&subject=product&codeID=90873 All that said, I’d rather them develop their own idea: They’ve showed with Mystic Timber’s and Orion that they can sort of take a stab at themed attractions. They do have an issue when it comes to story telling. To this day, I honestly couldn’t tell you what the story behind those rides are supposed to be. So if they were to create and original dark ride, they’d have to put work in creating not only and impressive experience, but also a cohesive and easily understandable story to go with it. And for the love of god, screen based attractions are not the way to go. No one is expecting Disney level quality attractions at a seasonal chain park, but not everything has to be screen dominant. It’s possible to create a fantastic dark ride without them. Or at least without the ride being 90% screens. A fantastic example of a classic dark ride that’s considered one of the best in the country: Also, Sally is capable of doing incredible work if you look beyond Boo Blasters: A high caliber dark ride would do well at Kings Island.

  7. I would like to see it reinvented into more of a Harmony Hall at Carowinds. There can still be a few German offerings as well.

  8. Orion? It looks fine to me! In all seriousness, I haven’t seen any updates of Adventure Express’ repaint. I want to assume it will be a quicker repaint with just the track needing repainted, but I know it is a tricky ride to repaint from the KI Central podcast with Baynum Painting. I wonder if the repaint has already happened, is ongoing, or will start after The Racer is complete.

  10. Holiday World sent the first (and possibly only) round of invites today. My first HW event was 2002, and I did not receive an invite. I thought I would qualify as a grizzled veteran with enough history, but apparently I’m just a newbie. ;^) Did anyone here receive an invite?

  11. Loved those streamers. If I was the boss of the world that place would be dark, cold and full of german food and beer. It's always been a refuge from the outdoors.

  12. I was thinking about this and cannot remember. I believe there was not anything in this spot before The Bat was built except maybe part of the canoe lake. But when did they build the path from where The Vortex entrance was going down to the LaRosa's Pizza building?

  13. Would be great to see more park documentaries done in a similar style as Closed for Storm.

  14. It's still surreal that it's gone. I look at the piece of track that I have and it still doesn't feel real even though it very much is the reality. It's exciting to think and discuss what the future holds for the space it occupied, but the sting of its absence is still felt. Another season of going to the park and not seeing the majestic old Arrow doing its acrobatics is still strange.

  15. That red paint on the Coke stand reminds me of Bob Evans! And wasn’t the now blue building tan at one point? Either way, the paint looks nice!

  18. I had the childhood pleasure of riding the Coney Island (Cincinnati) haunted house ride. To this day it is the best haunted house ride I have ever been on. You rode in a car and travelled through a house from basement to attic that was inhabited by skeletons and other scary monsters which were life sized and realistically posed. It had plenty of cobwebs and old creepy furniture. Everything was well done, and no cheesy effects except for the obligatory pop out scare as you went out the last door. I recall at some point the car you were in travelled outside the house for a brief moment and went then back in--a truly scary (thrilling) moment for a kid! What distinguished it from many rides is that it looked just like the inside of real haunted house--sort of like the Addams Family house on TV. It was a beautiful, fun and spooky ride. I hope more photos videos of it surface.

  19. Will look good to walk by an empty set of buildings! I saw that corner game operating 3 of the 4 times I went last year.

  23. I know we take a critical look at things often as enthusiasts for the park. I must say, however... I love Kings Island and the atmosphere they've worked to create. So many great things happening. I still hope for a big new coaster to fill The Vortex plot in the coming years, but pretty much every time there is a new announcement like this it makes me even more excited to get back.

  24. I know it's likely inevitable that another coaster will go in the former Vortex spot, but I'd love to see KI think outside the box and really make that area into a special investment. I'm not saying a big roller coaster wouldn't look good there (Vortex was one of the most photogenic coasters in the park) or wouldn't be fun. But I kind of like having that stretch of land reserved for something unique and exciting. Ideally, I'd love to see if they could create some sort of themed mini-area there, but I'm sure space and infrastructure would be an issue (I would love it if CF found some less-expensive bit of IP to make a themed area to, but that's probably a loooong way off). What I'd love is a giant themed water ride. Maybe a larger resurrection of the Keelboats, with trees, indoor features, a great view and a good drop. Make use of The Crypt building if you can. Roller coasters are great, but the older I get, the more I appreciate a really imaginative approach to these areas.
