  3. Hang on there, cowboy, I'm not offering a "counter-argument." Those people are gonna get drunk and fight whether they're doing subway shots with mayonnaise floaters and Italian BMT garnish, or, slamming back pints of that weird blueberry ice cream beer. Not so much a Southern Ohio thing, more of a... human thing.

  4. My bucket list park for the year is Fuji Q Highland. I will be visiting Japan, my flight is next week. The problem is I have been to Japan before and never made it to Fuji Q. It is a long way from Tokyo, takes a full day, and I have limited time and too many plans. So I will literally be able to say in two weeks if this happened or not. During my trip I will also be visiting Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Japan, Tokyo Dome City, and Nagashima Spa Land. I have been to all of these parks before. Disney has a new Beauty and The Beast dark ride. Universal frequently has seasonal specials like turning an indoor coaster into a VR experience themed to an anime. Nagashima Spa Land had a lot of ride closures due to weather and maintenance last time I visited so I hope to finally ride Steel Dragon 2000. If I have time and money this summer I hope to make the drive to Silver Dollar City and make a stop at Lost Island Theme Park on the way. The new Fire in the Hole looks fantastic. I am concerned Lost Island will not survive long term so feel visiting soon would be a good idea. Will be visiting Cedar Point for Top Thrill 2. I have tickets for Holiwood Nights and look forward to Good Gravy. Will make trips to Kentucky Kingdom and Kings Island. If I have some days free plan to try to hit some zoos like Indianapolis, and likely Columbus. That’s the stuff I am confident about. Plans change, but a lot of the big stuff is booked to an extent.

  5. It’s quite telling about how this year will go based on the fact that the other parks are showing off their lavish dishes that are new for 2024 and KI booked a photo shoot for their pizza and fries.

  6. It was done during my years there. Sometimes it was my decision. Other times it may have been requested by one of the divisions at the park, or the ride manufacturer. I wanted people to see rides testing. It generates interest, excitement and anticipation. That was not a reason I turned off a webcam. Others had different thoughts on that.

  7. I can't wait to see what new up charges they bring to nickel and dime us this season!

  8. I think you're giving people WAY too much credit. Beer ain't cheap at Bengals games, but the paddy wagons are always filled.

  9. I'm generalizing here, but typically speaking there's not a lot of Venn overlap between people who would get in to a fistfight and those who can afford to get drunk at an amusement park.

  10. I appreciate the offers for help. However, I'm content with just sitting out this season and getting a pass next year. I don't mind taking a break in all actuality. Once I get back working, I do want use this hiatus to save money this year in not going so I can maybe do something nicer next summer, plus I'm saving money to eventually start getting into recording sax covers of songs, and I want to get some basic sound and recording equipment.

  11. I've been to MIA twice, both in conjunction with CP trips. MIA is over 4 hours from Sandusky. Also make sure you use I-96 and not I-69, it can be easy to confuse the two, especially coming back from Muskegon. If you've never been, I'd go just to experience MIA. Its nice for what it is, though, Shivering Timbers was a jackhammer machine last season. I'm not sure if they've continued re-tracking it, but its in dire need of TLC for about 4K of its mile long track. Wolverine Wildcat was running really well at least, and Corkscrew and Thunderhawk are decent. Decent supporting ride selection as well. Food leaves a lot to be desired, both in the park and in Muskegon in general, and 0 live entertainment. There also isn't much to Muskegon besides the Lake Michigan beaches. If I were you and if possible, I'd do MIA before any bigger parks as you may get spoiled by the bigger, better parks which can taint your MIA experience, especially if Timbers isn't running well. Also, if you're looking for another park in that vicinity, Waldameer is slightly closer to Sandusky and Ravine Flyer II was running excellently last season. And if you do Waldameer, do not pass up Sara's diner just outside the park. As for me, I'm not even doing KI this season due to money issues, but I have a few trips I've had on the back burner that I want to do eventually. One is a Missouri trip for SDC, SFStL and WoF with a likely stay in St Louis to see the Reds play there. I've also been wanting to do a Canadian trip with Canada's Wonderland and La Ronde.

  12. The stripes are cool though I agree with that the ride in general needs a good overhaul. I mean even something like they did with Adventure Express would be fine. Bring back the real Flying Eagles and a Backlot overhaul in 2025? I'm down!

  14. Correct, and with the whole industry on edge about fights and misbehavior in the parks, I’m not sure how wise of a move it is to continue to introduce such a thing. But let’s not kid ourselves - this thing will be seldom open.

  17. A dedicated Mac & Cheese place would have been a good fit for this location. Or return it back to what it originally was as the Sweet Tooth and sell ice cream and cotton candy. That would be a better fit in Coney Mall than a place to get adult beverages.

  18. Several restaurants at Kings Island did do this last year by having monthly specials. They were extras instead of replacing something on the regular menu. They also did not appear on the menu boards but were instead on little signs in the restaurant, Brewhouse for instance had different specials most months. The park NEEDS to do a better job at communicating these kinds of things. Maybe something in the app or a monthly post on the blog, but it needs to be communicated somehow. Here are the specials from July at the Brewhouse. If you check the thread from last year I know people were randomly posting the specials.

  19. I chalked up the 2023 season as Chef Perez's rookie season, a season for him to get comfortable in his position then with this season he'd spread his wings and showcase his true culinary talents. If what we are seeing is more of the same. Basically, comfort food as the only options provided, I don't see why the park would keep him around. I've never met or seen an "executive chef" working at Skyline, Larosa's, Panda Express, or other similar comfort food restaurants the park provides outside of the park.

  23. So I've been hearing through the grapevine that the park has started putting job applicants on a waitlist on most seasonal positions outside of ride operators and lifeguards. Checked the job portal and yep, it's there... https://jobs.cedarfair.com/job/mason/kings-island-jobs-waitlist/42509/62940387760 Lifeguards makes sense, there's a general shortage, helping operate a local swim club near coney, I've seen the struggle the last few years. Though KI pays their guards higher than most surrounding pools, so they usually attract a good crowd of applicants by memorial day opening. It'll be interesting to see with most being moved to a waitlist who haven't been hired, will we see better staffing levels at KI this year for ride operations, or is it just because they're hiring a lower amount than last year due to cut operating hours of certain operating attractions, food service locations, games, etc. Just something I found interesting. I'm optimistic, but we'll have to see. Lets hope to a wonderful 24', full of wonderful new memories at the park

  27. I'm sorry you (apparently) never got to experience Coasterstock. This is essentially a plussed version of the Coasterstock blueprint. While it's more expensive than Coasterstock, I still think it's a good value and I'm excited because I've never been to a national Ace event. The bts of sign shop and bat and AE are things I've never done. I was hoping for more guest speakers (Denny, I could listen to all day as well as gravity group) but they are Coasterstock regulars. I think more non locals will gain a better appreciation for Kings Island with this event, which frankly, I hope is contagious to the local enthusiasts. In spite of budget cuts and corporate politics, we have a true gem here, and familiarity breeds contempt. I'm hoping that acers who dont get to ki frequently will reignite the energy of 2022. Fof Btw is great! Whatever you do, don't miss The Beast bts. That's worth the event price in and if itself.

  30. The way the TT2 project seems to be going, they can improve on anything Intamin has delivered in the last decade. But again, very low bar to clear.
    2 points
  31. What I'm most excited about with regard to TT2 isn't the ride itself, it's that we have new major player who can competently deliver marquee, record-setting rides. And it's a low bar to set, but if this ride is more reliable than Intamin's typical dreck, it'll be exciting to see what else Zamperla can pull off.

  34. For all the knocking folks here give on mistakes and bad information KI hangs up and talks about, maybe some of it is corporate. Take a look at how many things are wrong with this poster that someone posted to social media from KD pass preview last night:

  38. Hmm, did you not watch the 1-minute video snippet @BoddaH1994 linked in his post above yours that he posted 4 hours before your post Or are you simply summarizing his 1 minute analysis on the PR situation in this video for those that don't want to watch a 1 minute clip LOL (actually it was a 1-minute, 22 second clip that points out what you posted in a funny way)... And for those thinking that @BoddaH1994 was simply relinking the KI Team video, think again and watch this clip LOL.

  40. I definitely agree that 18 year olds shouldn't be housed with grown adults, however, there still could have been a solution to keep things separate but equal. Maybe offer a housing stipend in the local hotels

  42. Other things to note about this Rapid River Water Battle, which is speculated to be a Zamperla Water Fight New Camp Fire theater Snoopy's Junction being relocated in-between Woodstock Express and Thunder Striker (Formerly Intimidator) Two new splash pads A new Meet & Greet Refurbishment of the Family Care Center It's also worth noting that these plans may not be finalized, so it could be slightly different from the final product. I bring this up because the plans that were posted for Aeronautica Landing had Southern Star on it, despite it getting removed.

  43. Am I remembering something wrong, or is this the 3rd new bar in basically a year? Outpost Frozen cocktails opened with the park last year, the container bar last year with Haunt, and now Coney Mall Frozen Cocktails. I don’t drink beer and prefer alcohol in other forms, so it’s nice to see the park branching out. But hopefully we have new food choices and maybe new locations with ICEE machines, and coffee due to the new drink plan. Also I prefer the bars to be a little more off the main midways. I would think this would work better under the overhang on the back of the Emporium across from Festhaus, it already has tables even.
