  1. I agree as to it’s ability to make money anyplace. It just seems like making “Action Zone” more about extreme experiences would make sense and it could live there, or as others have stated, Xbase and flesh that area out more as a mini land with space and flight themed rides.
  2. Because it makes no sense where it is.
  3. I felt like it was a missed opportunity years ago to remove Sling Shot and make the entrance to Banshee there ( even it there were two entrances - one from Oktoberfest and one from AZ that “merged” into a relocate queue.) then retheme Adventure Express to relate to Banshee. Like a ride through the crypts (bad memories) and catacombs of a European cemetery while the spirit (Banshee) soars overhead. They could have shared theming elements. Then that would give a major focal to Oktoberfest. Would also maybe give the ghosts from Christmas Carol a place to hang during winterfest instead of roaming randomly with no explanation. My 4 year old was very concerned this year that the “bad man is creeping on the princess”!
  4. All Upligting in the park has switched over to “disco” mode. They went all out on the NYE party vibe. I loved watching all the characters dancing and interacting with the crowd at the bandstand countdown. Definitely a fun night. Hope the low numbers don’t make them question doing NYE next year.
  5. Really. Where is everyone? Crappy night up till now but at 8:30 it’s BEAUTIFUL, warm and EMPTY! The “dance club” looks totally deserted! Hopefully it picks up like the wind has! My kids are “ skating” which looks more like water skiing!
  6. You can come and go from the ice to the “shoe station” but you cannot leave the ice and return during the 90 min session(just to clarify a bit) This keeps people from “swapping out” skates during the time slot. Also purchasing on line doesn’t really save money, but it does save time not having to go get tickets when you get there.
  7. Love all the photo ops in the park, but they really need to rethink the lighting. One big floodlight directly across from it is horrible for shadows. I have lots of “creepers” in almost of my pics!
  8. Technically it rebooted at great adventure in 2016, but you have to wonder if that was more of a “guaranteed better weather” test of some of the concepts that were really designed for the parks that started it in 17. And I really think the response to this event, and the feel of the park and the level of immersive entertainment will begin to shape the regular season more and more as we go. I think we are already seeing this with the proposed international festival this summer.
  9. Yes. I think the open every day was hindered a bit this year by the fact that a lot of schools were still in through weds. Done even Friday. I think last year more schools were out the whole week before. I think it might actually be better to NOT do every day until the week between Christmas and New Years and instead put those payroll hours into longer days every Saturday. I think you could get more people in and higher guest spending with a longer day than a quiet, poorly attended Tuesday night.
  10. Spoke with a few employees last night who said last night seemed the busiest of the run. Saw a lot of people with vouchers and buying all season drink cups so maybe a lot of “Christmas gifts” coupled with predicted rain tonight and tomorrow pushed crowds up. Little concerned that those same people all said the week last week including the weekend had been pretty dead. Hope last night made up for that. Wonder if we’ll see any more closures due to rain since tonight looks to be a washout like last Thursday.
  11. A lot of people still consider the zoo to be “cheaper”. As of last year it was also more about the lights there, but with this year’s step up, the light gap could be closing. We have passes to both. Zoo, 1 time. KI, 5 and at least NYE planned.
  12. Did you read the entire post or jump to a personal attack right off The Bat? I was in line with my two older kids, talking, having fun, knowing that we would be at most 1-2 cycles apart, and with three trains running, that would be a matter of minutes. We have ridden every ride together many times, and they actually like feeling grown up and responsible enough to “ride it alone” we had spent the entire evening together, and continued to do so after this. This was a way to experience more in less time and go do more together for the rest of the evening. Do you ever hurt your head riding your high horse?
  13. This event has just blown me away this year. 4x and counting, and everything we did last night we hadn’t done before (except sledding but with no line at 5 why not -3 times!)
  14. Must’ve just been the night. Been lit every other time. Also agree with the tree out front. Maybe move it where the crazy color tree was in winterfest way that was moved to coney. It’s pretty but almost wasted as you are trying to get in the park ASAP and not spending time in the entry plaza noticing the subtle pattern shifts. Maybe a simpler white lights only tree. Then that big one in its new spot would make a nice backdrop to the international showplace if they ever did a show there.
  15. Question. I got “read the act” last week when I was there with my older two kids and we did single rider for Mystic. My kids are older and can both wait by themselves until we all ride and we had NO expectation that we would ride together. This lady kept telling me she drove “three hours by herself without her family to enjoy the park” at first I thought she was being nice and chatting in line. Then I realized she was “informing me” I was violating her definition of single rider. I don’t get it. If three people in front of her were total strangers or knew each other was irrelevant as she still would wait till three people were placed in front of her. She wouldn’t stop. Kept saying “I’m a single rider” finding other “ singles” to support her argument in line. No wonder she’s there without her family. They probably don’t care for her either. Didn’t really matter since when we got to the load and they went to get a single she cut in front of my son (who was really the next single) just so she could get on and I guess prove her point. Whatever, but thoughts? Should single riders really be lonely people with no friend by themselves, or are people who are together but have no expectation of riding together or sitting on the same train to be allowed?
  16. The umbrellas. They should be very popular this evening.
  17. Just completed survey about the naming of a very interesting proposed event for KI this summer. Sort of Dollywood festival if nations meets Mardi Gras with a light parade, international carnivals acts, international food, a street party at night etc etc etc. sounds like this is more than a “what would you think if we did this” type of survey since it was more about the names of the components of the events. This is the second major survey I have filled out in three days for them. All “festival and event related” so I think we can see where their heads are at right now. I see lots more going into entertainment budget and foods budget in the coming seasons. Maybe even more than major capital ride expenditures. Using short run event as a way to drive attendance more than “bigger, higher, faster”. VERY INTETESTING!
  18. Definitely cut back on light qty. while I feel like the overall area covered is more, the quantity is less if that makes sense. Yes, overall the park as a whole has more holiday throughout, but some of the individual areas have been cut back. I’m sure it’s a cost and time management thing allocating resources. Also for a park open more daylight hours where you can actually see the details, their decorated garlands, trees, wreaths etc come in WAY below ki. The detail and lushness of our trim makes DW look sparse. I know they are going for a “simple country look” but they could definitely add detail in that area
  19. I’ve been torn having been to both, but this year with the “step up” at ki winterfest, I think we may have edged out Dollywood. Hate to say it but even with their glacier ridge addition (which feel VERY Kings Island and slightly out of step with the feel of the rest of the park) KI just has more kinetic energy and “spectacle” no one beats Hershend in the way the apply lights to buildings (crazy anal detail) but there’s just a “big ness” here. Different parks and different moods, but you can’t not smile when you walk in to KI

    No coasters?

Yea. Driving up at 7 it was pretty bad and blustery. Didn’t figure that in. Just didn’t think the temp was low enough to shut down. Odd that back lot and racer stayed open.

    No coasters?

It’s 40 now, but they were all closed by 8 or so. Probably wind
  22. Pretty much every coaster closed now. Flight of Fear and backlot only ones open. Chilly night but beautiful. What’s up?
  23. Coney bbq baked apples special side today. Needed to be baked a bit longer. WAY to chewey.
  24. Water park busy. Food crazy long. Lots of water park park closed. Lower staff, but still busy. Main park was busy this morning but hopefully will empty out later.
