I'm in the "unlikely to use SOB's station or to even be in Action Zone" camp. It's just too crowded and congested already. If Invertigo and Congo Falls were gone, then maybe it would be located on that side of Action Zone but space there seems tight with the parking lot and Timberwolf. My most likely spots are at the end of Coney Mall in the DA/old Flight Commander vicinity, as part of some sort of X-base expansion, or *gulp* as a Vortex replacement (ordered by likeliness).

I've never been able to get a good feel or idea for how the SOB station could be used for another coaster. I just don't see a way to fit track between The Bat and Banshee that works. What are people ideas? diagrams? thoughts? wild conceptual designs? I'm mainly thinking of how to locate the track so a coaster could get in, turn around, and get back out. Would it potentially interact with The Bat or Banshee? Would that even be possible with the particular layouts of those two coasters near the old SOB station?

For the life of me I can't remember what the area was properly called prior to the "action movie" re-theme. But yeah, the monrail safari, King Cobra, Adventure Express, Congo Falls, Cafe Kilamanjaro all fit pretty well together into the jungle theme the area had.
EDIT: From the timeline: "The Wild Animal Habitat theme area is renamed Adventure Village." MAybe that area never had an "official" name prior to it being Adventure Village?

I just can't get on board with this idea. It's just so resource-intensive to make/ship/store/dispose of the potential amount of what are single-use items. Not that any amusement park is going to be particularly "sustainable" but I'd like to see parks doing more in that direction, not less.

Are any of the three new slide attractions mentioned likely to be used items brought up from Wildwater Kingdom after its close? I'm pretty sure Point Plummet is going to be new but I'm not familiar enough with the stuff at the old Geauga Lake to know about the other two?

From the materials released so far: I like it!
Looking at the 360 view of the shed: applying a little bit of theming like that to the outside of the Slaughterhouse haunt building would be awesome. It wouldn't need to be Haunt-inspired year round but a shabby looking "Kings Mills Meat and Poultry co" building would be so much cooler for Rivertown and The Beast's queue than the current plain metal shop-looking building. Hopefully the theming in the Mystic Timbers concept drawings actually comes through and then maybe starts to creep back into Rivertown.

Things are getting a little... studly in these parts as of late.

And here I was thinking going from "Uh...'Cowboy Coaster' or whatever lol?" to having strong opinions and knowledge about a set of parks, their specific ride collections, and operations in the span of a couple months meant we were in the presence of a real fast learner...

Ride-themed canned spiels covering necessary safety and loading information would be more than welcome. The spieling at KI is almost uniformly unfunny, unprofessional, and annoying.

If you never actually make a substantive prediction in public...it's pretty hard to end up being called wrong.
I mean, through my massive statistical prognostication powers and intensive model-fitting, I already know who is going to win the presidential election and what their exact vote totals are gonna be, but I ain't tellin' until after the election.

Looking at the Deerfield Township Zoning map, it appears the property has been re-zoned to Multi-Family Residential:

The latest news articles I can find date back to March of last year also state the zoning change happened but indicate that final plans need to be submitted before development proceeds:

Searching the development's proposed name "The towne at Deerfield" (gag) doesn't yield much interesting info aside from some more stuff from Deerfield Zoning. I'm curious if the lack of work happening at the site of this QCD article and the 'stalled' nature of the former KI resort project are related (I know they're different developers but the projects look very similar). I'd also be interested to know how the nearby (on Kings Mills Rd.) "Mason Grand" condo-partment development is performing and if it's perhaps giving an indication of softness in the 'upscale' rental market of the area that's slowing the KI Resort site project.

RFYLCB had water flow around 10 this morning. It was dry when we rode Diamondback for ERT, had water flowing down the drop when we got off the gliders and walked over to FOF, but was dry again when we looped back around that side of the park at about 11. I didn't stick around long enough to see if any boats were being cycled through when the waters were raging though.

Whether this applies to the doings on River town, filling up our fabulous new slide complex, or something else entirely...I wouldn't even begin to speculate.

I don't really have anything I'd like to see on the site (let's just suppose that reopening Lesourdsville lake/Americana is off the table). It's in kind of an odd spot (hemmed in on one side by the river, one side by a water treatment/sewage plant, one side by RR tracks and another by residential subdivisions). It's got good access to Rt. 4 on the front side but that's maybe a negative also?
I suspect one of two things will happen: 1 The property will end up as part of an expanding warehouse/light industrial area building out from some trucking operations that are already there taking advantage of Rt. 4 and possibly rail access. However, the flood plain/river adjacent nature of the site may make that not feasible. OR speculation 2: considering the demographics of the Monroe area: soccer fields/other rec fields.

The whole point of the In-Depth articles I've been writing (in my mind) are to tell these stories. I'm in my mid-20s and I grew up with Tomb Raider as a defining attraction that led to my love of theme parks. It set the bar for the kinds of attractions I enjoy and the ones I would populate my dream park with. It's what primed me for Indiana Jones Adventure, Revenge of the Mummy, etc. The memories I have of it, of lowering toward the lava, of flipping up and slamming to a halt before the icicles... Those sorts of things are just indescribable.
It's easy to forget that the circumstances you grew up with are not the same circumstances others experienced. A whole new "generation" of theme park fans – including many here! – have only heard of Tomb Raider and maybe even wondered, "Geez, what was the big deal?" I hope articles like this add context and really save these stories (even in a very simple, brief format) to help them understand what the big deal was. Those of you who worked on Tomb Raider or the Crypt have far, far more knowledge than I do, so it's awesome to hear that you appreciate this article or that it brings back a memory. Wow.
If Kings Island announced that for 2017 they were adding a new top spin into that ride, bringing back the lava, the music, the goddess, the icicles, etc., I might literally cry. In fact, I think I would. Just the idea that something so tremendous could exist at Kings Island again... yeah, I'd buy a Platinum Pass for me and for each of my friends, too.

I'm a little older than you (not much, mid 30s). I grew up in Liberty twp. and KI was a big part of my childhood. I came in at the tail end of the smurfs and went there regularly through the heyday of Phantom theater and also the Paramount takeover (waiting in line on a rainy opening day to ride Top Gun). For many years we had passes and made many weeknight trips since it was only 10 minutes or so from home and a big crowd meant 'eh, maybe spend an hour here instead of 2.' I remember being so crazy excited about AE and mom holding the car steady at 35mph driving back from the grocery store so my brother and I could see what that felt like since we had read that was what 'the new coaster at KI would do!'
TR:TR (SOB also) came and went during a time that I had stopped going to KI because 'got too old, went to school, moved away for a while, etc.' When I moved back to Kettering a few years ago my GF and I got passes as an Xmas gift and have been renewing them since. The changes for DB's footprint were probably the most jarring for me compared to what I was used to 'from the old days.'
