The Tri-County Mall area used to be booming. In 30-40 years we'll be talking about that big, decrepit fake city in the dumps near the 129:I-75 interchange.

I've never been able to get a good feel or idea for how the SOB station could be used for another coaster. I just don't see a way to fit track between The Bat and Banshee that works. What are people ideas? diagrams? thoughts? wild conceptual designs? I'm mainly thinking of how to locate the track so a coaster could get in, turn around, and get back out. Would it potentially interact with The Bat or Banshee? Would that even be possible with the particular layouts of those two coasters near the old SOB station?

With all due respect to Interpreter, it does need to be clarified that he was never privy to, or a part of, Management and decision making at the park.  His statements, however leading, misleading, on point or vague were never based on official internal information.  He was a spectator just like the rest of us.  That having been said, I do find it odd that he suddenly dropped off - he devoured these boards.  I've known the *real* guy behind the Interpreter for years, and I do hope he is ok.

The details behind the switch are it was a management decision. Running both sides forward again was a return to how the ride operated from its opening in 1972 through spring 1982, which is where nostalgia came into play.  Something old was new again for our guests.

From the first time I rode it in 1989 (and it drove my earring posts into my head) until a couple seasons ago, I was very much in the "tear it down!" camp. When I was still a young teen it always made me so angry to hear people play it up as the one to ride to show how brave you were. Beast was so much better!
Then I had a friend (NoChickens) who I often ran into at the park around Vortex, and he wanted to ride it. I had heard about 5-1 previously, and rode that but wasn't impressed. NoChickens introduced me to 7-1, and I realized I could ride with very few punches to the jaw. As I learned to avoid the restraint in the spots it still hit me, I also learned to really appreciate the ride. I even ride it alone most visits now.
I've been told that steel coasters have a lifespan, and have accepted that eventually Vortex will have to go regardless. But I'm hoping it is awhile before that happens.
There is something beautiful about that turn before the first drop, when the entire park comes into view. I particularly love to ride at sunset for that reason. And that first drop is among the best moments in the park!

I don't know if anyone has said this before, but I'm glad that Mystic Timbers is utilizing the lake by WWC. I always thought it was kind of a hidden gem.

I made some renderings on what I think a giga in X-Base would look like. The coaster in this concept runs along a straight, relatively flat section of land that would require minimal tree removal and would over all be a more economic choice. I didn't really factor in any specific turns, except after the first drop, to convey the overall shape of the ride. Also notice how Dinosaur's Alive hasn't even been touched. I'll provide a more detailed rendering soon.

    Thoughts?

I'm in the "unlikely to use SOB's station or to even be in Action Zone" camp. It's just too crowded and congested already. If Invertigo and Congo Falls were gone, then maybe it would be located on that side of Action Zone but space there seems tight with the parking lot and Timberwolf. My most likely spots are at the end of Coney Mall in the DA/old Flight Commander vicinity, as part of some sort of X-base expansion, or *gulp* as a Vortex replacement (ordered by likeliness).

Possible, I think yes.  Likely, I say no.
That area is already fairly congested and adding another roller coaster back there I think would make it worse.
When I was looking at it I noticed that google maps still has SoB in their aerial view.

I would think putting it in either X-base or Coney Mall close to the old Flight Commander pad makes the most sense.  Right now the biggest draws are Banshee in Action Zone and Diamondback & Beast in Rivertown.  Seeing that the SOB station is right next to Banshee and that area is already packed over there I think the end of Coney would be best for evening out crowds.  There hasn't been a big shiny new attraction there in a while.  At least not one that will draw the crowds of a giga, invert or hyper.

Since there a ton of posts about gigas on other threads, I decided to create a central topic just dedicated to the speculation of the giga coaster that most coaster enthusiasts believe we are going to get in the future.
    What we know:
Cedar Fair has added 3 gigas to its parks since 2010 Each giga installed is taller than the last Kings Island is the only major Cedar Fair park without one What we can speculate:
The conception of the coaster itself B&M is a likely candidate  The old S.O.B station might be used ^If not in Action Zone then it could be put in X-Base^ Possibly a green color since KI has no coasters that color  Like I said, this is just a speculation thread.

    Hi all!
Some of you know me, many probably don't because I dont post like I did in year past.  Let's just say KI and I go waaaaaaaay back.  I have had a love affair with KI since I first heard about The Beast in 1979 and since I first attended in 1981 when the (original) Bat was new!  Well, I have managed to keep tabs on the park for decades now.  I was an avid coaster enthusiast for years, but my passion found it's birth in my early visits to KI.  Throughout all my years of visiting the park, I collected souvenirs, collectibles, and other physical things.  However I also amassed a lot of pictures (including rare, behind the scenes construction pictures), brochures, park maps, media kits, Press Releases etc.
After years and years of sitting on a 4-drawer filing cabinet full of them, I finally decided I was being selfish by not sharing.  So that's exactly what I am doing.  I have created a FB page called "Sit on It."  (It's a play on a slogan taken from a sign that used to hang in The Beast, and Racer stations.  I loved the sign and always said if I were to create a site dedicated to my love of KI, that's what I'd call it!)
So... I'd like to invite all of you to visit @SitOnItKI on FB.  It's a work in progress... and I've only just begun to upload the hundreds of pictures, videos etc that I have dating back to Kings Islands opening years.  All I ask is that you help me by giving credit to the page if you re-use one of my pictures, that will help promote it.  Also, I welcome your nostalgic pictures and posts as well.
I hope this isnt breaking any KICentral rules - I would have loved to contribute them - but frankly there's so many.  My intent is to celebrate the wonderful park Kings Island has always been by looking back at it's past... and it's future!

It think it was just called Lion Country Safari and then during the mid-90's it became known as Adventure Village. Adventure Village contained Top Gun, Adventure Express, XS Raceway, Xtreme Skyflyer, Congo Falls, King Cobra, and more. Congo Falls is really a remnant from what that area was prior to Action Zone. It was more of a Safari theme as I recall.

I just can't get on board with this idea. It's just so resource-intensive to make/ship/store/dispose of the potential amount of what are single-use items. Not that any amusement park is going to be particularly "sustainable" but I'd like to see parks doing more in that direction, not less.

D-amn right we honor other Trades lines.  When I was in the IBEW and pulled up to a jobsite that another Trade had a line set up, I parked, called the Foreman or GF for my Contractor and said Im at the gate, not coming in.  Even though most all Locals in the IBEW operate under CIR (No strike clause) you can bet we honor all other Trades lines.  Furthermore, any "journalism" in the Sandusky Rag will almost always and certainly be written in a manner that will shine a light on Cedar Point, much like the GOCC FB page is right now.  They know what side their bread is buttered on, and wont rattle that dogs cage, I can promise you that.
