  1. KCKC closed toward the end of the season in 2000, i was there the last day of operation or first of de-construction thinking WTF. They then built a fence in 2001 saying something to the extent of look for a new attraction here in 2002. I heard the same thing about how nothing compares to The Bat. I have been told many times that top gun is the only ride that comes close to The Bat because of top guns speeds. Most of the other suspended coasters are similar to iron dragon, slow and boring. The slower speeds on XLR-8 is what allowed them to turn half of their trains backwards shown here.
  2. I was always told that because the angles on the lifts of The Bat were different than that of The Vortex that they couldnt use them on the lift. Though the stairs are straight they are still pieces. They could have just taken the pieces and put them in a square going up to the block break. Plus Vortex is taller than The Bat was.
  3. ^I agree 100%, the only inversions were corkscrews and as far as I know many models were made and one prototype with just a short piece of track and an inversion but it failed badly.
  4. They didnt count on how far they would actually swing I think this explains it all.
  5. They were produced by rhino productions and theyre old, but they are cool. I bought them at Blockbuster a long time ago.
  6. I think This may have been posted here before but if so its been a while, if not then Im the first. Anyway this is still a cool final look at Phantom Theater. Dont forget to click on the bottom of the page where it says Click Here, one leads to more behind the scenes of Phantom theater, the other is behind the scenes of Scooby doo's Haunted Castle.
  7. I dont know about a live show, but the festhaus could use a pick me up, especially since octoberfest is nearly defunct.
  8. There were holes rusted through the rails
  9. Nothing is wrong with top gun. Why add a loop, i dont see how that could make the ride any better.Plus, the way the ride swings, that could result very badly. Several prototypes have been made of suspended coasters with inversions and none of them have worked. I have several videos put out in the mid 90's showing prototypes and models.
  10. The last week day that the park is open is friday the 26th of August.
  11. "Ladies and gentalmen, it is just a reminder that photography of any sort while while riding is strictly prohibited"
  12. Its carowinds not carowind. KI is considered the premier paramount park, its apparant if you go to any others, ive been to them all but wonderland.
  13. Same station as Vortex, you cant see the cutouts in the shed of Vortex where the backbone went. You can still see footers to The Bat though they are very weathered and crumbling. The access stairs for the second lift are used to access the midcorse block break on Vortex. Despite the rumors, no one ever got hurt on The Bat other than an occasional stiff neck.
  14. Wood coasters they take them off and put them in the storage track, steel coasters they are left on the track. Vortex is not left in the shed unless a train is out of service. They are left on the lift, in the station, and in the ready breaks. Top gun, station and lift, etc.
  15. The cars themselves actually sit on top of the trains. They are attached by the fishtailing mechanism. If you look behind the cars you can see little red wheels between the actually Mini and the train. The fishtailing is de-activated by putting two screws into these holes that connect the mini to the train and do not allow it to move. When the screws are removed it allows the train to sway back and forth. Yes the fishtailing is over-hyped but it is there and is always there because they always leave the screws out. Next time you ride the ride just concentrate on the train during the swerving through cop cars cause thats where you can barely feel it if you look for it.
  16. It was just a private company that ran tours and paid ki to let them do it. They decided not to anymore.
  17. ^i dont think thats true all the trains are the same, where you sit could have a big impact however, like front/back of a car, left/right side.
  18. Here is another home made coaster somewhat off topic but still interesting.
  19. Dude pki beast, believe me I know alot about the ride. The effects did work. None of the effects on the train (audio, lights, stair) work right now however (other than the drifting that still works), and I doubt they will work untill post season and that is at the earliest, there is a good chance that they may not work untill next year.there are reasons behind this however and its not to make guests mad.b Right now there is no time to fix the problems and still open on time the next day. They DO plan on fixing these problems however. If you had any idea how technical that ride is with all the computers and sensors you would understand why everything cant always go perfectly. It is a brand new ride, not a brand new car. You would expect a new BMW to work great and have no problems, that is not the case here. Believe me, Kings Island wants everything on that ride to work, way more than you want it to. They dont just shut off effects and shut down rides because they feel like it or they want to make people mad. At least they built the ride and it operates, they could just be like Six flags and give their parks something new every 5 years.
  20. It was a tangent that crossed over to Vortex having lap bars instead of over the top restraints.
  21. Yes but this is America, the fattest country on earth, and its not just overweight people, its tall people as well. The beauty of Vortex is that it safely fits everyone.
  22. When ever there is a guest that is too big to ride a ride, usually they get sent to Vortex because everyone fits. Where would we send if Vortex got fof restraints, lol.
  23. The fishtailing is always on, you have to really look for it though. It makes the ride a lot smoother its just very subtle. The only time you can really feel it working is during the swerving through the cop cars at the bottom of the hill. The helicopter doesnt go up and down for a reason. The stair effect wont work because it goes to fast and would be impossible to slow down at that point. The sound doesnt work because of all the vandalism, and that is the only reason the sound doesnt work. So if you want to complain about the sound, dont blame the staff. It's odd how you accuse people of complaining, when you're making excuses for the park, which is just as bad. Granted, I think IJ is a great ride the way it is, but I don't blame people for wondering why effects never really existed when they were either a part of the press release and/or announced by marketing. If PKI wants to be the Disney of the midwest, they should concentrate on innovate ways to solve problems instead of innovative ways to get out of them. Do you think the park doesnt try to fix these problems. The maintenence crews work round the clock on IJ, just so that people can ride it at 10:00 the next day. Its a bit hard to continue running things like the audio on the train when stupid guests, break the screen and rip out speakers, and if you think I'm exaggerating, just look at train number 1. Every one of the effects that Kings Island promised is there. The stair effect happens, but due to the G forces on the train in the subway, it is not noticable. There is one point where the stair effect turns on but it is while the guests are not in the train. Maybe I am making excuses for the park but at least they are valid.
  24. Well dont complain about it then.
  25. They planned on it all season, they just now tell people like its some surprise. In the past they were open till 11 on sat and 10 on sun.
