Cedar Point 2016 Talk
King Ding Dong replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Looks like CP PR is sending out flip flops with "somethings afoot" printed on them with a 8/19 announcement date. Tallest and fastest water slide jokes are "to soon". Let's not go there yet, OK? -
Top thrill dragster launch cable detached?

^ The launch system should have a much higher up time. -

Mr. BAlvey also seems to claim that if the parents had been on the slide they could have calmed him or prevented him from removing the restraint. If that was indeed a problem. Let's think about that. TTD is a quick intense ride with about the same duration. So next time you are on it try and have a conversation and reassure the person in the row in front of you. After launch of course. If you disagree with anything he posts you are a "stupid idiot" and will almost certainly receive a permanent ban. The 400-550lb range is very narrow. Say you have three 190lb adults that want to ride. Can't do all three or even just 2. Have three 100lb kids, can't do it. Reportedly kids are often used as filler to balance out the ride. If a lawyer is able to establish that in court......

3 People Fall From Ferris Wheel
King Ding Dong replied to AintNutinElse2Do's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Bouncing off the metal bridging slowed their decent and likely saved their lives. This happens by something preventing the carriage from rotating, such as debris or a loose bolt. Again my prayers are with yet more families.- 1 reply

About what time and was the hat wearer sitting in the front row? We saw someone in front row holding onto his hat on down the first hill. Just curious if it was him.Probably between 12-1 she was mid train and doesn't know who's hat it was.

I suppose if they have one in stock and there is no other damage. I do believe on current carriers it is directly on the pistons. You will find general information on the web but nothing to detailed. The technology is one of our most closely held secrets. Last I read the Russians have still not been able to perfect the technology and have to use rocket boosters to launch their fighters. Well in that case send a couple of scouts to hold your place in line. (Just kiddin, don't do that) Back on page 28-29 chugh43 posted a couple of maps of the SC lot for me and some good advise to get me started on my first trip. -

Depends on if you will be there for ERT. One strategy I hear is to do Valravn later in the day because lines are shorter. YMMV. If there for ERT, I enter through the SC/resort gate start at Maverick and work my way forward counter clockwise, by passing Magnum becuase it is usually a very short wait. On a mid July Wednesday trip we stopped at Valravyn and about 15 min before ERT was up and the stand by line was 1 hour already and they hadn't let the FL+ line enter the que yet. Bottom line: you need to budget 2 hours for Valravn especially on a weekend and be pleasantly surprised if it is less. Edit: I see in another post you have platties. If you get there very early to allow for approaching road construction, causeway traffic and possible security checkpoint, making a mad dash for Valravyn from the plaza may be the best option. Think Walmart Black Friday. -
No I can't. If the reports of the harnesses failing that day are to be believed, how about the associates that strapped them in and cleared the ride for launch? I don't know if I could continue doing the job after something like this. A reminder of the awesome responsibility they have in our safety. This reminder will hopefully temper my impatience with slow intervals.

My understanding is last time this happened it was down for a week? We are planning on going sometime this week and will just be pleasantly surprised if it is operational. -
I bought him a strap at CP as well becuase he forgot to bring his sports goggles he wears in PE. I have held them for him before but he can't see without them very well and what fun is that? He even need -3.0 swim goggles. I actually broke my sunglasses strap today at KI.

From the loose article policy on Cedarpoint.com Glasses must be secured with an athletic strap on Valravn, Gatekeeper, Maverick, maXair, Power Tower, Skyhawk, Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister. https://www.cedarpoint.com/plan-a-visit/ride-policies-and-procedures Can find no such policy on visitkingsisland.com

There is a 27 odd page thread back from 2013 that covers the construction over on TPR if anyone is interested in knowing more history on it. Not sure what the linking rules are here but the title is Re: Schlitterbahn Kansas - Slide O' Death 2.0 (I don't even know what to say about that, but there it is) There was also a Extreme Waterparks or similar episode on the construction a few years ago. IIRC the tower was made out of 3 railroad tanker cars cut and welded together. They had also built a 1/3 (?? ) scale model of it first. The big restriction on the ride when it opened was a 400-550 lb total weight requirement for the raft. Somewhere in that thread back then I think I made a comment to the effect that 3 petite teenage girls might not total enough weight to ride it. EDIT: TPR just changed the title of the thread and removed the Slide O' Death 2.0 part.

Oh yeah, that is why we never made the trip, my kids were to young. Still are. I always felt this thing was a bit Action Park-ish, but still wanted to ride it. The don't believe the netting was originally planned but retrofitted after testing. For all of you that really know the history of amusement rides. How often are rides scrapped after serious accidents like this?

Interesting.....she wasn't hurt by the hat more startled than anything else.

Maybe it's just CP then? My son gets questioned frequently. One would think the rules would be chainwide. Maybe not.

27 FIRED FROM CAROWINDS.
King Ding Dong replied to freaks76's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Although the laws vary by country in most of Europe the full legal during age is 18 and in many cases beer and wine is 16 or younger depending on the circumstance. This does not excuse breaking our laws but just some added cultural context. -
So my wife got hit in the face with a hat on Diamondback this afternoon. I know they don't allow glasses without straps, don't they require riders take off hats and secure them?
