  1. Meaning longer than three weeks? I hope, for the park`s sake, that they will be able to get it up and swinging again before the conclusion of daily operation.
  2. I have to wonder if the reason for no fireworks off the tower this year was in any way related to the nice new paint job it got this season?
  3. RPmusic.com is the place that has TR:TR music and a bried snippet of Flight of Fear`s music. If I remember correctly, Rob Pottorf, the guy that composed the music for both attractions, also has a clip of the Flight of Fear preshow on his site, with the references to the old Outer Limits portion of the preshow.
  4. Hopefully, the size of the park qill gro some, as as they expand in the future. As has been mentioned before, the park has not expanded or added many new attractions in the last couple of years. What I mean by this is that they have replaced attractions that they have removed with new attractions, which cause people to keep visiting the park. But the park as a whole has not grown in size or amount of rides that drastically in the last five years. If they want people to stay for longer periods of time, they will have to add to their ride base, not just replace attractions with new ones.
  5. Yes, the parks will now be a more integrated part of the new company. The success of the parks will have a greater impace on the new CBS division than they currently have in the large Viacom company. As such, there MIGHT, as has been mentioned before, be an increased focus on the parks in terms of capital expenditures to try and increase revenue generated by the parks. However, if you recall the recent article about PKI and ticket prices, it said that the market is alreasy saturated and that they can`t really charge more or attract that many more visitors, so it will turn to extending the length of stay at the parks, and the amount of money visitors spend in the parks. New rides, while they attract visitors also keep people in the parks. So if they add more rides, there will be more things for people to do in the park, and thus, they will extend there stay in the park to experience all the new things the park has to offer. So the park will not necessarily increase their attendance figures (althought that would likely happen because there would be more demand to visit the park, despite the high prices that the article a while back was talking about.) But the park would most certainly gain from the per capita spending by guests in the park.
  6. Nice trip report. I rode Son of Beast on Saturday. Which I normally don`t do, becuase it beats me up when I ride it. But I had time to kill before 1:30 when my Walk on Weekend ticket for Drop Zone began. I rode SoB in row 2.2. I actually had a pleasurable ride. Sure there was some shaking and such, but not as much or as violently as normal. It was the first time in a long while that I actually had an enjoyable ride on Son of Beast, and wasn`t hoping for the ride to end sooner.
  7. Yes, i know that Ralph got the plans for the Coney Island Teddy Bear and built his own version. Now if only he would do the same thing with the Shooting Star, one of Coney`s real gem coasters, from what I have heard.
  8. While probably out of reach for any one on here, in terms of feasibility. A show/movie on the behind the scenes working of the park would be awesome of PKI. The Discovery Channel did a show like this form Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point. I`ve always thought a show like this would be cool. Sadly, it seems that new coaster shows on the Discovery Channel are becoming a thing of the past. Or at least, there aren`t as many new ones as there once were.
  9. One of my favorite rides was either the hand cars, or the kiddie whip. I also liked the Smurf`s Enchanted Voyage. Such good memories from there, back in the days when the employees wore the rainbow stripped shirts!
  10. The Travel Channel? The 25th anniversary show that they air in the line for The Beast? Last time I checked, that was not released to the Travel Channel, or on sale at the park, but I could be wrong.
  11. The Tornado is a fun little roller coaster. I think a ride like that would fit in perfectly at Coney Island. It would not take up a lot of space, and would be a fun ride for lots of people to enjoy. I highly doubt Coney will ever install a ride llke that, but one could hope it would happen!
  12. According to the sheet PKI was handing out, Rozzi`s was responsible for their Nights of Fire. While they may subcontract out their pyrotechnics they are still the company that the park deals with. By far, their signature event is the Toyata WEBN fireworks on Labor day weekend. That display is the BIG thing in Cincinnati that weekend!
  13. PKIBoy, PKI is not like a lot of the Six Flags parks. PKI runs all the trains on the rides that they can. Especially with IJST, even if they aren`t expecting large crowds, they know there will be a crowd at this ride. I have seen them remove a train from The Beast down to 2, but this was on a gold pass holder night when it was really cold. Even with two trains, they were sending the trains out half empty, so they did not benefit from having the third train on. IJST does benefit from a slight increase in capacity by having its third train on.
  14. Actually, I have seen them using three trains on IJST. I believe they were running three trains on the ride yesterday.
  15. It is because the part probably had to be custom fabricated. I would imagine that the cranes and workers seen on the ride a couple weeks ago were removing the broken part, so that when the new one arrives, all they have to do is install it. I wonder if PKI also ordered an extra part, so that if it fails again they will have a replacement ready without a lengthy delay like they have had this time.
  16. In years past, I thought the park had always closed at midnight during Nights of Fire. But tomorrow night (3rd) they close at 11 and on the fourth they close at ten. I also hadn`t realized that this season they are open until midnight every Saturday through August 13, and 11 pm every Friday. It used to be 10pm closing except for an 11pm closing on Saturdays during the regular season. Additionally, they still have yet to announce if they will be open the first weekend in November, although their website lists November currently.
  17. I was also at the park today. I got up there for the ACE walkback. We had to take a slight detour, because they had I street blocked off at the bandstand for the morning dry run of the Nick Parade. So we ducked behind the Istreet buildings right behind Scooby and walked between the building and Scooby. We emerged right past Starbucks to a mass of people with envious faces. IJST was waking up slow so we were escorted to The Beast, which was also was taking his time waking up. At 10:05 we got to ride. All in all, I got a lot of rides in before leaving at 1:30 after using my walk on weekend ticket on Drop Zone. When I left, it was definantly getting crowded. A couple notes I noticed today. Delirium now has a sign in front of it saying they are awaiting a replacement part from Germany. Also, there was a sign in front of the line for the Eiffel Tower saying that it would be closed for a "Promtional Event" I`m sure glad the person who made that sign spell checked it! The one thing that shocked me though, was the amount of rides they were closing early due to the fireworks. Top Gun, Son of Beast, The Racer, Vortex, The Beast, the train, WWC. All of them closed at 8 and would NOT reopen. The fireworks were launched at ten, and the park didn`t close until midnight. I seem to recall in the past that they would reopen some of the rides. I know that there were fireworks over to the right of Son of Beast`s midcourse break, as well as in the Pumpkin Patch area of the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad. I bet the park was swamped with people riding the rides that were open for the final four hours!
  18. If I remember correctly, the reason that he quit the second seaso of PKIC Survivor, was due in part to a heavy school load. As a student of Architecture at UC, I can understand how time becomes precious and posting on a PKI site, even visiting PKI become cherished things. Eventually you ahve to sacrifice things that are less important in the grand scheme of things. I`m not saying this is what UncleHenry has done. (And I, BTW, have no intention of leaving PKIC, despite my heavy workload. My posts have and will be less frequent until I`m co-oping in the fall and have more free time) Good luck with your future endeavers in life UncleHenry.
  19. Nice TR. Yeah, Delirium has been down for almost a month now, and will hopefully be up soon, but I am still hearing reports for the end of July/early August. The sooner the better, and I am sure the park shares that sentiment.
  20. When it gets down to the end, they will announce that they are only going to run x more trains. Otherwise they will be cycling trains with only four or so people. There really is no point in cycling trains just so people can ride in the front seat. On a slight tangent, last year I was on one of the last rides of the night on The Beast, and when we returned to the station, the entire train was chanting "One more ride! One more ride!" And guess what? The nice crew gave us one more ride, even though it was after 10!
  21. All I can say is that Rozzi`s Fireworks have been busy the last couple of weeks preparing for this holiday. By no means their signature event, they have a lot of displays this weekend. They have the three Nights of Fire displays this weekend at PKI. Then there was the UC Big East celebration with fireworks yesterday (Friday). Then on Sunday, Coney has its Baloon Glow, with Rozzi`s fireworks at 10, and then the Cincinnati Pops has a Concert on the 4th with Fireworks, not to mention that Rozzi`s is also doing the Red White and Blue Ash firework display, and I believe a display somewhere downtown. And those are just the displays in the Cincinnati area. Rozzi`s also supplies the fireworks for Disneyworld, I believe.
  22. Yes, IJST is a short ride. I would wait probably up to half an hour to ride it. Definantly, the gold pass speed lane is a must if you have a gold pass as you can wait in only about a five to ten minute line. Is it still going to take until the end of July to get Delirium up and swinging again? I was there two weeks ago and they had the cranes there, and the arm was resting on wood stilts. I wonderwhy the part failed so soon, since theis is only the third season the ride has been opened.
  23. I don`t know why they don`t let volunteers wear watches. When I was volunteering, they said "make sure to remove all watches." I`m assuming that a watch could possibly be a place for germs to live, and since it would be near the area you are serving food with, they decided it be best to remove them completly.
  24. No, group volunteers have to wear a white plain shirts. And, if you work in picnics, you are not allowed to wear a watch!
  25. Last year, the Nick Parade has its own speaker system, which was seperate from the normal park speakers. You could see the temporary speakers on top of the buildings along the parade route. They might have changed that this season, as I have noticed what appear to be new speakers lining the buildings on International Street.
