    Coaster Studios review of Orion:

Idk, I personally liked his response. When Orion got revealed I had a hard time explaining my disappointments with the ride. Of course, everybody expects and likes different things, but honestly, I thought we would get a low to the ground, terrain Giga. I really don't think anybody had a serious issue with the rides height, because like Taylor said, the drop is 300 ft and feels like any other Giga drop. If anything else, it was the length that had people bummed, but I guess most people understand that for Cedar Fair, from a business point of view, there aren't many perks for making the coaster longer. I can't lie, the entire off-season I was frustrated about Orion and the coaster it could have been. But as Taylor said in the video, you got to appreciate it for what it does right and from the video, it looks like it does a lot of things right. During the offseason, I was trying my hardest to be excited about Orion, but I really was never looking forward to the ride opening. But I recently asked myself the questions, "Is The Giga perfect?" Far from. "But does it do a lot of things right?", Yes! After watching the video, it seems I was sleeping on some of the coaster's elements that I thought would probably be "underwhelming". But in reality, there might be some hidden gems on this ride. Honestly, after watching the video, I cant wait until I'm able to ride Orion so I can make a definitive opinion for myself.

  2. To be fully honest guys, I don't care about height Orion height. The part of this coaster that annoyed me was length. Undeniably, this Giga is short and has an extremely long break run. I don't think you can argue that... I think we could have done better with Orion honestly, It's just when I see the Layout out of this coaster combined with the length of it, I feel like we could have done better. Orion will be a good coaster and I won't give my final judgment until I ride it. Though, compared to other Gigas, Orion simply looks underwhelming. Maybe budget was too extreme of a term, but every time I look at Orion, It doesn't feel complete. I can't go on and state all the things I feel could have been done better with Orion, but simply I'm not the biggest fan of the layout. The most frustrating part about this is that it feels as if there is no right way to express disappointment in this coaster without someone thinking your unappreciative or a person who only cares about stats. There is a lot more I want to say, but for now I'll leave it at that.....

(sorry I know this is still A Vortex thread)

No you cannot. Improper use of random characters violates the TOS.

I don’t consider Orion a cheap giga. If we are going to talk about cheap rides, there are so many others to choose from.

Can you or someone please explain why I can't use that term? Seems like an unnecessarily unneeded word to censor. Almost as if I'm forced to talk about something in a positive light even if I don't want to......

I saw the post on Twitter on Friday and to be truly honest I was shocked. I was never the biggest Vortex fan but I respected the ride for what it was. I can't say I'm exactly sad, but still a little disappointed overall. I was one of those people who were underwhelmed with Orion. Call me unappreciative, but something feels wrong about losing 2 coasters in 2 consecutive years, just to get, if I may say a giga .I think Vortex leaving would have been more understandable if CF went out of there way to give us a better Giga. Like discussed earlier, no one knows when they decided to remove Vortex, but really, announcing it this late into the year was a terrible move.

Unfortunately, the last time I was able to ride Vortex was July of 2017 and I won't be able to get out this year and get a last ride in. I still don't know how to really formulate my thoughts into a way that seems less "salty/bitter" But I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I haven't appreciated the way CF has done things this year, concerning KI. I feel like this whole situation could have been improved if they had a better plan, It would have decreased the overall disappointment of this whole situation.

Again, I never was a fan of Vortex, thought I don't want it to seem as if I hate the ride, I just wasn't particularly fond of it. Though I do have some fun moments associated with it. Either way, it's sad seeing any ride being removed. Overall, I just wish I was able to get my real "last ride".

if I may say a giga .  I have no idea how my original post keeps getting change w/o me doing it ..... *Edit (I can't use the term "Budg3t Giga with the actual e?")

as I said in another thread, they should have taken some height off the other two largest hills and added height to the first one to get to 300 so that the argument on if this is a giga wouldn't exist (and it may have reduced costs or have kept in same cost).  There would still be the "it isn't a world record giga" argument but you can't please everyone...

Wow, thats actually is a super smart idea. I would of totally been down for that. Funny part is the reason they didn't make Orion 300 is unknown, but its hard for me to think it could of been actual money limitations... Would be nice if CF told as their true intentions.

Let's face it, at the end of the day Orion287 will probably have the longest lines at the park consistently and I think it's ridership number will be larger than Fury325.  The public will still come to ride regardless, look at Mystic and Maverick as examples of rides that got negative comments at the announcement...

oh for sure I know, I guess thats what I meant If i did emphasize my point enough. CF and KI could care less for the ride to be 300 ft because they know people will still ride it anyways. I personally think Orion is a giga, I just think its dumb that KI put themselves in a situation, because they themselves are labeling Orion as a Giga. But it seems that right now nobody even knows what a "giga" is.

but I think the park did bring this on themselves to an extent by not just building the extra 13 ft. I highly doubt they're losing any sleep over it though!

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't know how much an extra 13 ft of steel would of cost, but to be honest I don't think it would of hurt the bottom line too bad if they made it 300. Again, like you said, KI well knew the controversy that would arise with them making it 287 ft and like you said, They could care less. As long as they make their money (which they will) they could care less if this coaster is considered a Giga or a Hyper.

Here's my take.  We get everyone together and dig a hole under the peak of Orion's lift that is 81' deep.  Now we have the tallest giga in the world at 368'.  The we take the dirt from that hole and build a 40' hill under Fury's lift, 10' under Leviathin's and the rest under Millie.  Now we have the only "giga" in north America. I mean it would cost to much to ship the dirt to Japan for steel dragon.  But hey with my plan, Orion is now the only "true giga" as well as tallest in the world by this definition.

That is how stupid this argument is.  People are arguing this thing isn't a giga because of a stat that could change with a backhoe and 30 mins of excavation. Drop is the most important stat anyway.  I've yet to met a single person sya that the observation platform of the ET is more thrilling and exciting than the first drop of Diamondback.

To be fair man that won't solve anything and I know what your saying is a joke. I think the reason why people were disappointed was that we usually expect more from Cedar Fair, Since MF every Giga they built after the next has had a gradual improvement in innovation. Yes, Drop is more important than Height, I know everyone would rather have a 278 ft Lift with a 300 ft drop, then a 310 lift hill with 295 ft drop.

Though, Cedar Fair has always seemed to try to 1 up itself, We have just expected it from them at this point. I don't think people would have had this much of an issue with the height if Orion was at least 300 ft. Since I-305, CF has been slowly pushing the heights of the Giga. The height difference from 325 to 287 is somewhat shocking. Again I don't think the height is the soul issue people are having with this ride, I think people might have been caught off guard with the length. Again, Fury 325 set peoples expectations for this ride so high. I feel like even if CF added 2 more small, low to the ground elements after where the current break run is, that would have suppressed some peoples criticism towards the ride. I think people were not even expecting the hugest record-breaker, They just expected something as big or a tad bigger than Fury.

Also, I think the overall stats of Orion are playing a big part on the hate. Stats aren't everything when it comes to a Coaster, stats can be misleading, but enthusiast LOVE stats. That's the easiest explanation of why this ride hasn't received the most positive reviews at the moment. Because stat wise this coaster undoubtedly took a step back from Fury. Think about it, the only thing people can judge this ride of is Stats, POVs and the other Gigas that are currently relatable to this ride, which are of course are Fury and Leviathan.

The truth is that most people are looking at this ride and judging it on how statistically it isn't "as impressive" as either the rides I previously mentioned above.
Again, nobody knows how this ride we truly come out, It could just prove us all wrong in be the Best Coaster in the world. But we can't get overly mad at some people being critical. Our first initial opinions might hold little to no weight 8 months from now...

  10. "Critical" Response Incoming... But please understand where I am coming from.

I'm excited about the ride, but I can't deny the fact that I feel envy in my heart in a way. I know people say "be appreciative for what we got and be happy we got a coaster at least." But it's hard to put how I feel into words, hopefully, you guys can understand...

It just feels like sometimes Cedar Point always gets the record breakers, the next big thing. Yes, its a Giga and it looks great. But you guys know it would of been great to say "My Park has the best___________, Its the tallest, fastest, longest....." I'm not saying I wanted a 350 foot ride with speeds close to 100 mph and a 7,000 ft layout. It's just hard to think how a ride built 20 years ago like Millennium Force is somehow "Taller and Faster" and Yes, I know this ride will be better than MF, but something about is just weird, It felt like Cedar Fair had the opportunity to give us something "Different".

I know Cedar Point is the flagship park and everything, but it's like "your really giving us a 300 ft drop?" "a lift hill under 300 ft?"  I'm not trying to be critical but it's just weird, It feels like this coaster is hardly a Giga. Maybe I'm selfish but it feels like CF just didn't give us the best possible. Why make a Giga that's lift hill is under that 300 ft? Why is it hardly 100 ft longer than Diamondback? It just feels like we were "budgeted" very hard but CF does not mind spending big bucks on CP to get them the record breakers. It's just been rubbing me the wrong way.

I'm really trying hard not to be overly critical and I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible.

We were the last major CF park to receive a Giga, I guess I just thought since we have been waiting for a long time, they would of blessed us with something "Bigger".

Either way, Im hyped. I will enjoy this ride and appreciated it for what it is, I am excited about it, but at the same time, I had to express how I really feel I guess...

Fury and DB both hold 32 passengers. Why would 4 across help load people on faster?

I feel like V-Shaped would be a tad faster, but the difference of time probably wouldn't be noticeable. IDK, I feel like B&M will go 4 across since that's what they been doing lately.

  12. Man, I'm gonna miss it and I really didn't even like Firehawk like that. I just hate seeing coasters go. The sad part is that the last time I was able to ride it was last year and I don't have plans of going to KI for the rest of the year. RIP Firehawk, The ride did serve its purpose and I guess overall was "fun", not the best ride, but it will be missed.

  13. Its funny, I like Firehawk but since 2015 I've only ridden it once. I would have ridden it more, but like others have stated, the line is just way too long even on a normal day. I wish I would have been able to ride it this year.  If it is Firehawk, Then the that would mean that the last time I would have ridden it will be like July of 2017. Sucks that the announcement really came out of nowhere.

  14. Sometimes I wish KI would remove they annoying trims on The Beast.  Of Course, they are there for safety and I would assume they would do it to put less "wear and tear" on the ride, but some of them are excisive and just annoying, feels like when you start gaining speed it just gets derailed and sometimes it just lowers the excitement, especially when your riding in the front row.

One of the things I love with RMC is that they really don't put trim breaks on their coasters, you can even see on SV mid-course break run that they try to make it where it won't kill the speed of the coasters. I'm not saying The Beast should get RMC'd but some of the trims on The Beast are just ridiculous.

  15. I mean for names we still have to remember that CF has the name Centurion still lying around. Even though it really wouldn't fit the theme of X-Base, They might still just use it. Again I like the name Centurion but I don't think KI is willing to connect the theme of Modern Flight in X-Base to a Roman army commander.

Thanks to StrategyOnline.Ca for this photo. I heard a mention of the infamous Leviathan billboard that was placed in outside of Toronto. I love the way the coaster POPS. If I was driving down I-71 and saw a billboard of these sorts advertising a Giga at KI, I would swerve off the road. Here is a photo...

    (Sorry for the poor quality)

Wow! That Photo is Sweet though. Looks so real and catches the attention real quick. I would not be surprised if this thing was responsible for an accident or two...

There has been iconic rides taken down.....

Most of the times those rides got taken down because the park had no option, Either the ride was in very poor condition or other reasons that forced them to shut it down. The Racer is still in good condition and can be with good upkeep for the Next 20 years+ KI isn't just going to let The Racer sit and ruin, I again am positive they will keep it in good condition as long as they possibly can.

    Why wouldn't they RMC racer?

The Racer has a TON of history and some even credit it for paving the way for a new era of coasters. It's a very important ride to KI and the rest of the Amusement/Rollercoaster Industry (Coaster Enthusistate too and locals). Also, it's an ACE landmark, So I'm not exactly sure if the new RMC'd structure would be allow to keep the ACE Landmark award... (If anybody knows the answer on this please fill me in) KI could RMC The Racer one day in the future and if they did I personally wouldn't be mad, but for now, I don't see it happening and I think they are going to try to keep it running at good condition as long as possible.

  19. Here was my take on a shirt design. Obviously, The Kings Island® Logo belongs to Kings Island. Of course, the Giga hasn't even been confirmed so its all speculation with the date and term "Go Commando". I just quickly made the shirt using "Custom Ink".GO Comando.JPG

The main draw to Cedar Point is the fact that they call themselves "the roller coaster capital of the world" and I wouldn't say the main draw is Valravn or one particular coaster, back on topic now, I actually don't think we are going to get a Giga, I don't want to be "that guy", but why does this rumor not die? Clearly, Mystic Timbers wasn't a Giga coaster, and Banshee wasn't a Giga coaster? Also, Banshee raised attendance by 1%, I don't think that's worth the 24 million dollar investment, I'm curious to see how Mystic Timbers does with attendance.

Well, get one eventually in the next 4 years. At the moment its the best coaster for us to get, Also CF saw how much of good response there was for Fury 325 from the GP and from Coaster Enthusiast too. Also, all of the major CF parks have a Giga and we don't. CF knows we need and deserve one.
