  1. I remember when they used to let people on the lower deck! This is great. This whole thread has really made me miss the Safari section. Such a great theme with so many possibilities. I remember when Paramount converted it to Action Zone thinking it was super cool and felt new and current and having everything attached to Paramount IP felt really legit, and everything else felt so old and outdated to me, but I was the target audience for that kind of branding as a teenage boy. Now I'm just sad that it's all gone because without Paramount IP, Action Zone just feels generic and theme-less.
  2. I think Zader is talking about the distinction between the two different kinds of ground-up RMCs, Lightning Rod and Outlaw Run being topper track wooden coasters, which technically count as a woodies, and SteVe being a steel I-box hybrid coaster, which doesn't. So if they built a ground-up RMC, a topper track model might be a nice addition because they could count that as wooden track and add to the record.
  3. I've been banging that drum since the Orion layout leaked! I just watched a Beast POV and I think people are underestimating how much this will stomp on the isolation. From the time you turn out of the bottom of the first drop, you're going to be staring right up at a massive blue 200-foot turnaround until you're out of the brake shed. And that was one of the few sections that didn't have a service road next to it, so it felt especially woodsy. Oh well. What's done is done. Just seems crazy to me with SO MUCH other land they could have used. Hopefully they don't bring down too many trees with this Vortex removal/replacement.
  4. I would love if lightning rod wasn’t such a mess because a massive launched topper track woodie on the old Vortex plot would be wonderful and picturesque and it could fill a gap that doesn’t compete directly with the nearby Cedar Fair hybrids, and feels very different from other things in the KI lineup for the GP. But if Cedar Fair is done working with RMC, El Toro is my number one, so if intamin’s BGV installations are smooth, I can see a world where CF starts working with them again. Especially now that they’re playing with stalls and outerbanks, a new inverting prefab from them could be an extremely unique world-class coaster.
  5. That 360 is sweet! Although you can really see how slim the line of trees is between the turnaround and Beast brake shed.
  6. Does anybody know of a good ride-through video of Phantom Theater? The few that I found on YouTube are really low-quality. I seem to remember watching one a couple years back that was decent but I can’t find it now. Also, can anyone remember what the setting was for the room that used the Pepper’s Ghost effect? The big room with the reflected animatronics? I can only picture the big ballroom from Haunted Mansion and can’t for the life of me remember what ours was. And yes, though this thread has been dead for a while, I’d love to see PT return. I don’t think the park knew what they had when they tore it out. For a regional park to have a nearly-disney-level dark ride Is almost unheard of. If Disney tore out Haunted Mansion there would be riots haha. I’m sure the park wouldn’t want to spend the money especially since in its last few years the ride wasn’t all that popular, but there’s really no comparison to boo blasters in terms of quality. And really cool to have original characters unique to our park, made with that quality level. I’d love if we took a turn back to the true “theme” park days.
  7. Because of the distances and perspective, it seems like this will actually look shorter than Diamondback from the entrance/highway
  8. I know I think it’s so strange that their lift hills face the same direction. Weird for the skyline for sure.
  9. I still feel like it's weird that the lift hills for Orion and Diamondback will both be facing the exact same direction. That's going to look so strange on the skyline and is doing nothing to help quiet the GP's obvious 'just a bigger Diamondback' commentary. Some people have suggested they might not have wanted to make it bigger than Eiffel Tower because of how that would affect the skyline, but it doesn't seem like they're giving that much consideration.
  10. Even shorter in height and length than you all predicted! But wow great job by you decoders. Very nearly exactly right. I was hoping for some surprises- Maybe a tunnel, or, I don’t know, the second half of the ride? Lol I’m kidding but dang that’s a short ride with a lonnnnng brake run haha. In fact, I would have rather ridden the ride you guys predicted, with slightly more impressive stats and an overbank but hey it’ll probably bring in the business they want so what do they care. I feel like they could have spent less money and built a different, much cooler, more interesting ride, but I guess they felt like doing the least to technically have a giga was more marketable. This ride misses the mark in almost every way for me, but hopefully people love it so CF continues spending money here! Well done KI team on the marketing! This rollout was a lot of fun!
  11. Intamin all the way babyyyyyyy. I get that B&M is more reliable and they are generally people-eaters, but they miss the mark so consistently for me. They're just always big and smooth and nice. Even Fury - I thought it was a lot of fun, very forceful, don't get me wrong, but Millie was built 20 years ago and I rode it again last year and I still would rather ride that. El Toro is my #1. Obviously Kingda Ka and TTD are BEASTS. Their hypers are consistently nuts (with the exception of the Superman clones in DC and upstate NY - those were not their finest), and their blitzes are WILD. Thrilled to see them making a major resurgence here in the states again. Can't believe of all the parks in our chain to get an Intamin giga it wasn't us but KD! And I know people are saying hagrid is proving them unreliable again, but I'm sorry that ride is trying to run 12 trains with seven launches, a quick-switch track reverse launch up a vertical spike and a drop track. That's insane! And don't even get me started on how jealous I am that Busch Gardens is getting a triple launch, quick-switch track, reverse-spike, WITH a top hat into a river ravine. I would have killed for KI to take a risk and build something like that. But I get it! It's a business. I still think it's a strange move to build B&M hypers and gigas in the same park, especially because the GP truly don't get the differences and they just seem like newer upgraded versions of the hypers (last time I was at CW poor Intimidator was sending out empty trains just to get people off the trains that were stacked on the brake runs), but obviously they have plenty of market research to suggest this move makes sense since they've done it twice before. Ah well!
  12. Super jealous of them. Glad they’re going Intamin again because maybe that means CF will follow suit! Wish it happened before we got our giga. I hope they hit it out of the park.
  13. They need to put that drop track in the shed. Maybe that's what they're doing with the money they're saving on lil giga.
  14. It's fun! Nothing super impressive. Not very forceful. Slow, gradual launches. Great hangtime. A couple good airtime moments. Some fun laterals. Pretty short. Nice theming. Perfectly fine. Nothing like Mav. I rode it twice. Didn't need to ride it again.
  15. I'm with you. Can't say I'm surprised though. Fancy paint job would have cost more. They don't seem to be splurging on anything with this one.
  16. Vortex, WindSeeker and DB are not in The Beast’s line of sight except for at the top of the second lift. And they are thousands of feet away anyway. This will be directly ahead of you on The Beast after you make the turn out of the first drop, and will tower above the tree line. People on this thread were riding The Beast to see the the early stages of land clearing over there. If they could see tree removal, you’ll be able to see this turn-around. I still can’t wrap my brain around why they would take this ride anywhere near The Beast considering how much land they have and how many other options are available to them, but I’m sure they know something I don’t know...
  17. I think people have every right to be disappointed. We love the park and want it to do big, great things. This is the only time we will ever get an investment like this, and while I’m sure it will be a GP crowd-pleaser and get a decent return, saying “shut up and be grateful for your ride” isn’t fair. It is disappointing because to pull in big TOURIST crowds, that’s when big record-breakers matter, and I had hoped this was the direction this park would ultimately go, but it seems they don’t want to compete with their own tourist base to the north. Mostly I just don’t get the exorbitant expense for a ride like this. I was almost sure the initially leaked plans were fake because it just didn’t make business sense to me. There are a lot cheaper ways to bring in *some* people and appease the GP. Maybe ways that wouldn’t stomp all over the once-charming look of The Racer, add another massive south-facing lift hill to the skyline, and ruin The Beast’s backwooded solidarity - its best attribute. The 30 feet of trees between the two rides will offer almost no camouflage from a towering, colorful, roaring 100-ft-tall turnaround. If we’re going to be relegated to being in the “charming family park” category, and not get the very best roller coasters, I’d rather we at least actually kept the charm. Finding the cheapest way to technically have a Giga is not a good sign for how the chain considers the park.
  18. What, no more trim on the first drop?? I'm kidding. Of course it would be sacrilege to deface The Beast, but this ride would be a blast. Love the entry to the double helix.
  19. Yeah I remember that too. Loved the front when I was younger and it was just an empty shell. I haven't ridden in a while, but I haven't ridden anywhere but 5-1 in years, so I have no idea when the wall was added. I love the trains and of course this ride is ridiculously picturesque and a delightful throwback, but I think a train swap might make this much more ride-able for the GP, and the more people actually ride it, the more the park might see it as worth keeping. I haven't seen it as anything but a walk-on the last several times I've been.
  20. Does anyone have insight as to why they're choosing to run this so close to The Beast? I know the land toward the river it isn't flat like the stretch of land they're clearing, but they have so much land back that way - they could absolutely use that terrain, right? Running parallel to The Racer is giving me a bit of the 'goliath-over-colossus' effect which is a bummer since Racer's silhouette is so charming (notwithstanding the huge box behind the lift hill), and, even with a cushion of trees they've left, this massively risks imposing on The Beast's seculsion. Just wondering if the topography is more limiting than I would have guessed, because I can't think of any other reason they'd choose this path. Also, I'm getting picky here, but I hope the Diamondback and Giga lift hills are not oriented the same way. If the station ends up going where Firehawk was and the lift heads toward this new clearing, they'll be nearly parallel. I'm thrilled we're getting the ride, don't get me wrong, I'm just thinking of what effect this massive structure will have on the skyline. No matter what, it's fun to watch this unfold! Thanks for all the intel.
  21. I think a blitz or similar non-Intamin (noooo) multi-launch would fit nicely in the plot of land to the left of the main gate, alongside the parking lot. Sell Invertigo for scrap, use that station area, and let it snake alongside the amphitheater back toward the Top Gun station. Plenty of land. Nice marquee attraction right up front, yet not corrupting the front gate like the main gate coaster trend from a few years back. Maybe tie it in with an Action Zone re-theme. Maybe even Intamin will have a rebirth after the big Islands of Adventure jobs and their switch-track multi-launch going into BGW. They won't be able to get back in CF's good graces in time for our Giga, but maybe some day.
  22. Just watched the POV and all I can think is how beautiful this thing would be if Kenton's Cove was still there and the view from that first drop was the forested lake just beyond the train tracks. Right by the splashdown. I know DB would have probably stomped on that if TR hadn't, but man that would be pretty.
