From what I've heard, the park is allowing neck gaiters, and I will reiterate, this is what I use. I wear it most of my day at work, I wear it to rock climb in my local climbing gym, it's not a bother. As an added bonus, you can dip the lower part in cool water, and it helps keep you cool, while you also cover your face with it. Very good all around thing, and way more comfortable than the multi layer cloth masks, and way less likely to hold your sweat in it than a surgical mask that is made of paper type material that becomes soggy with sweat.
Or, don't go to outdoor places that require masks due to the herding of humans into small areas until the pandemic is over. That's also an option....

I wanna smell the flowers, but the smell of flowers are filed in "muh freedoms" and because I have to wear this mask, I can't have "muh freedoms" so I can't smell flowers. Or some other babble.

Why is it that certain demographics don't matter? Because it inconveniences others? That's not acceptable.
The point I think that's being made now, is they tried. The governments of the states tried to open things back up, and trusted everyone to be adults about everything. Some chose to be adults about everything, and decided it was best to take precautions to be safe, most didn't, and we saw a huge spike in cases and hospitalizations. Adults can't be trusted to behave as adults, so now the back tracking and mandating is happening. This could have been far more simple and smoother if there wasn't a movement to do everything possible to try to get sick, and the general lack of care about what's really going on. (Just so no one has the ability to say "I don't think people are actually doing everything possible to try to get sick, see this article... https://abcnews.go.com/US/alabama-students-throwing-covid-parties-infected-officials/story?id=71552514 ) Honestly, when you compare the US to other countries, we should all be embarrassed by what has happened here. We were given the guidelines to combat this, and far too many have decided they just don't care. Now here we are.

No one is saying that there's no risk. At some point though, we need to understand what the actual risk is and make decisions with real data. We need to stop focusing on the number of cases. The cases are primarily affecting people in the 20-49 age group who are overwhelmingly not being severely affected. We know the number of cases is definitely under-counted, possibly by a factor of 10 (Source). There's almost no possibility that the hospitalizations and mortality numbers are under-counted. Why is the science and data being ignored right now?
That's all well and good, it really is, but I don't even like to have my allergy symptoms flare up, let alone get a cold, or worse, something like the flu (or worse). I'm not hiding in my house, I am going out and enjoying my life, albeit far more carefully than I have in prior years. That data all looks positive for folks that don't mind being sick, but for me, I'll still live a little more carefully.

So I think they handled it well and logically. I just would make sure not to touch the railings, I saw a YouTube "star" alternate between making out with his girlfriend, put his hands down his shorts, and then touch the railings.
So, safe to say too that said "Youtube star" was likely also practicing mask removal procedures while in line for a ride?

I usually only go to Meijer to do my grocery shopping anymore, because it just seems over all safer. People have their masks on, you can visually watch the people spraying down the carts the minute they roll them in, and the physical distancing people are doing is far better.... however, I had to go to Walmart last night because they are the only place local that sells my multivitamin. I can't begin to tell you how disappointing it was. That was easily the fastest in and out of an establishment I've ever had.

I should probably add to this that I also have anxiety inducing claustrophobia and was very worried that a mask would end up triggering me going into a psycho spiral, so for the longest time, I did everything possible to not wear one. After my first night at the climbing gym it took me about 20 minutes to get over the stress it caused, and since then, I haven't had an issue.

A question I have for folks that have been to the park during an actual day.... What is the climate of the humans like? Are people being jerks to one another for the sake of being jerks, or is it similar to any other day during any other situations? I want to go pretty badly, but I also don't want to deal with people being jerks towards each other.

If they would have done it 3 months ago, we wouldn't be doing it in July, but ya know, muh rights.... Frankly, Holcomb needs to say statewide, but he's too scared to. His last address, he talked about it, and basically said, in not so many words, "I'm scared I won't get re-elected if I don't give in to the cry babies." Man, the pterodactyl screams heard round where I work yesterday when it was announced were deafening. I'm one of about 3 people working here that actually wears something. Mine is a neck gaiter, so it's not the top notch of protection, but way better than nothing, and super comfortable vs other forms. I have to wear it at the climbing gym, and it isn't a big deal to do it while I'm exercising, so, ya know, sitting at your desk isn't going to kill you.

Look, overall both he and Amy Acton have done a good job of trying to contain the virus, doing their best to find a happy medium in the face of some brutual and unfair attacks and criticism. But when he rescinded the mask order after one day because it, and I quote, "offended some Ohio residents" I was dumbfounded.
A pandemic that has killed thousands and has had a crippling effect on the economy and mental health doesn't care about anyone's feelings or their misconstrued interpretation of "freedom" or "tyranny". It's well past time for them to put on their big boy/girl pants and swap out their tin foil hats for a mask.
I live in Marion County in Indiana. Starting July 9th we have a mask mandate here. I'm interested to see if that sticks or not. With seeing this, I'm afraid it wont.

That was my choice for protection as well. I feel bad for you that you can't wear it at work, way more comfortable in my opinion, but mine manages to fog my glasses... There's just no win when you're blind and trying to not kill people.

LOL! Methanol in hand sanitizer? That's a treat right there. I have spent a large amount of my life in the drag racing world, where methanol gets used frequently, and can tell you, when that methanol hits your nose, you're going down.

You.... you did the math? That's actually awesome!! However, this is also assuming you're at the very end of the line of 8750 people, so realistically you likely won't be stuck in line for 1641 minutes. I guess being that they're only open 8 hours per day, there is a strong possibility that riding Orion is going to be the only thing that people do in their visit though!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the park has made an official statement regarding why they made the change. But it could easily have much to do with the pandemic (itself a respiratory virus) and their current mask policies. If so, then in theory this change would be temporary.
If I had to guess, it's likely going to be a forever thing. Disney did it already, and I think the majority of their customer base saw it as a positive. Lets be real, the number of people that smoke still is dwindling, the number of people that hate smoking is growing. I feel like there is a strong possibility these smaller regional parks likely look to Disney and Universal for social cues like this. When the huge parks continue to maintain attendance, while telling people to go outside to smoke, then the small regional parks are willing to give it a shot. I vape, used to smoke.... I'll walk outside to do so. My typical day at the park is usually about 13 miles of walking, so I can tell you pretty easily that I'm by the front gates at least 4 or 5 times in my visit, and have no issue making those times I'm up front a time to wander out to the smokers patio. I also am one of those people where if it's not convenient for me to go vape, I likely won't. I know for some folks, the smoke or the vape is an hourly occurrence, and I understand

You may never go back. Unfortunately, due to so many people completely unwilling to do what it takes to fight a pandemic, we may be in masks in public spaces for years to come. It may be at least 2 years before we have a safe, viable vaccine to fight the spread.
