  1.  Well, my wish was granted yesterday. We went to KI for a day, with me hoping quietly that my daughter had hit 48 inches. She loves coasters, and I knew that Vortex would be awesome for her and that she'd love it. Well, luck had it, she got her purple wristband for the first time yesterday, so we marched from there straight to Vortex. I made sure to let her know when we were in line that it was going to be the single most intense roller coaster she'd ever ridden, and it was ok if she didn't want to try it. She insisted we go on it. We rode it once, she got off and said she wanted to do it again, later telling my wife she needed to ride it at least 2 more times. We did. We rode it 3 times yesterday, and she was smitten with the ride. On the second time through, we were hanging upside down in the second loop when she said "daddy, I thought you said this roller coaster goes upside down 6 times, I don't count 6". At that point, I knew I had a coaster fanatic on my hands. She wasn't remotely frightened by it, and was having a conversation with me on it. Terribly sad that she only got the one day to ride it, but glad she got the opportunity before it's gone. I teared up a bit when after the 3rd time through I told her that was the last time ever we would get to ride that ride. It was a sad moment, but one that I was glad we got to have.

Lol welcome to the party! he has been there for a few hours now lol

Well crap. I guess I'm behind the times!! There also appears to be the next piece of the drop side being moved over to where it's going to live, which is odd, it seems late in the day to still be throwing around track pieces.

  3. Is it actually installed, or is it being assembled on the ground? It doesn't appear to be attached yet to the base footer. It's hard to tell because its far enough away from the camera that it's hard to tell!!

    Edit...

There's no way that's the bottom of the drop, the drop goes into the ravine, and there is no way that will drop into the ravine.

    Another Edit....

They are adding another piece to it as we speak, and that piece is heading towards the trees. That is return track.

  4.  That's just horrible to hear. Such an icon at the park, that once it's gone, will be such a void. I'm ****ed that neither of my kids will be able to cut their teeth on this coaster, the same way that I did. It also seems like a terrible idea to shutter coasters prior to next season, where there will be a need for coasters to eat up some people to keep the lines better on Orion. All around, just not what I would have expected to see happen this season.

It could be a possibility, there is a lot of track at Kings Island don't get me wrong, but its not enough to make a giga coaster that's for sure.

It appears that they are starting at the transfer and going backwards with it, so it's completely possible that they've provided track sections enough to get half way around so far, more is already ready, and more is still being built.

  6.  I do see on the webcam, they've put in a support column right before the storage shed. I can't see if the other one at the end of the transfer track is there yet or no. I'm going to assume we may see another piece of track work its way into place today.

  7.  I'm not super good at electrical, but I believe everything in light gray in that pic is all electrical equipment. The two black boxes on the right side of the pic are server cabinets, so the computerization lives in those. The two smaller gray boxes mounted up high on the wall at the end of the room are transformers that make single phase electrical into multi phase, I do know that.

I know you're being facetious with that statement, however, my fear is that there will come a time, probably after we're all too old to ride anymore where the coasters will all be torn down because of these fears. I'm getting old enough now that I'm bruised and often sore after a 12 hour riding marathon.... that being said, I don't see it as a bad thing. Comes with the territory of being almost 40 and still doing kid stuff.

So, I too wear cargo pants, but... I’m probably (unfortunately) going to go with a locker my first few rides on Orion, just to be safe as it seems to be more “extreme” than the other KI coasters (do note my stuff has survived Banshee, Diamondback, and IIRC, Xtreme Skyflyer- the last is not a coaster, obviously, but I think I left some of my belongings in my cargo shorts during the ride). And at this Point, I also plan on getting that roaming locker for my CP trip (as I did last year) as I feel a lot of their coasters are more extreme than KI’s (namely Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Valravn, Steel Vengeance and Rougarou; Wicked Twister and Maverick are possible maybes).

Also, I totally thought that RCDB pic said “Coaster through the Clouds Shambhala” (as one name) when I first read it lol.

EDIT: Though on second thought, my stuff might be fine in the shorts. Thoughts?

Those are what I wear. Make sure they're zipped up before you get on the coaster, and you'll lose nothing. The only complaint I can give for them is that I carry a giant vape, and after 11 miles, I usually have a bruise on my knee from it repeatedly bouncing off the same spot on my knee as I walk.

I think it's the same reason why some people don't watch scary movies. They're afraid. Of course, to you or I, we know that's the point, that's what makes it exciting. But to others, they just can't take that fear.

You're not wrong. I think I'm just one of those odd people that has been desensitized to a lot of things. I don't find haunted house attractions even remotely frightening, but love going to them to see the production that the company does. I've driven some incredibly fast cars down a drag strip on way too small of a tire to make the power safe. I get on a mountain bike, and take the craziest lines through the woods. Love riding off of drops, and love riding off of jumps. Getting on a roller coaster is one of the most controlled situations that I do for a hobby!! Of all of my hobbies, the least likely to hurt me at all is the roller coasters. That being said, facing fears in life brings a lot of excitement to your life, and more should entertain the idea!!

  11. This again is one of those situations where I wonder what people are thinking. I wear a pair of hiking sandals when I go to the park. They are made by Keen. They are incredibly comfortable, they have an elastic strap that holds them tight on my feet, they are water proof too for those trips down the White Water Canyon. I on average walk 11 to 15 miles in a day at the park, and couldn't imagine trying to do that in a pair of 99 cent flip flops.
