  1.  They are expensive. There's no doubt about that part. The issue I find is that if I walk up and want to play the game and they tell me I have to walk over and put my money in a machine to buy a card, that gives me time to think about it. It takes the impulse element out of it. Anyone that's been through any marketing classes will tell you that it's important to allow impulse purchases to happen with little to no thought involved. The moment you give someone the opportunity to think through an impulse buy, they will be able to think it out and not be able to justify the money spent. There's a possibility that they will start to see the decline.

  2. The whole locker thing is entertaining to me. I have my zipper pocket cargo shorts. If it doesn't fit in my zipper pockets, I don't take it to the park. We've done visits just me, my wife and I, and both kids, my wife, and I. We don't carry a bunch of stuff with us at the park. I'm not really sure either what else would need to be carried!!

  3. If I'm to be honest, I think it flows with the ops on train that day. I've seen the same thing, 4 or 5 pairs of shoes per line when you come into the station one visit, then Saturday, when we got on, people would kick off their shoes, and someone would come around and tell them that you have to wear your shoes while you ride and put them back on them. Its actually never the same from visit to visit (as evidenced by your statement that literally the next day it was different). I did notice however that it makes the load process take longer than it should... and further, the unload process when people get off, and then stand in the row putting their shoes back on keeping people from loading.

  4. I almost believe that the new cards to play thing is potentially killing that. I can't be 100% certain, but it feels like people would rather just hand over a couple bucks to play, than to hook themselves by having to put money on a card to play.

  5. That kind of mentality being handed down is a real issue. You are literally teaching your children that people are there to serve you. I get it, when you go to a nice sit down restaurant, the servers are there to serve you, it's literally in the name.... still doesn't stop me from pre-bussing my table for them.

Overall today wasn't too bad in the end.  There was a lot of activity in the morning with people coming into the park, but by mid-afternoon we waited only about 30 minutes for Diamondback and 20 or less for Beast.

In early afternoon, Banshee had a queue with about a 25 minute wait.  They were stacking the trains a lot for some reason.

I may have finally figured out the Banshee stacking thing on Saturday. I rode Banshee 3 times.... and of that 2 of the times I went to get on, the OTS was only about half way up. They had to up bar for me to be able to actually even get into the seat. I think what's happening is short people, and or jerks are not putting the OTS all the way up when they get out, causing a major slow down in the loading process. Top that off with the number of people that kick off their shoes when they get on, and then the ops have to walk through and physically put peoples' shoes back on them for them... it can become a mess.

  7. There was a time where I was on The Racer, I believe it was probably 2 seasons ago, where a group of kids towards the front had ripped up a stack of park maps, and sat them in their laps on the lift hill, so that as the coaster started going, there was confetti going everywhere. Other peoples' kids annoy me. Visit before last, there was a kid in the row in front of my 4 year old son and me on Woodstock Express that stood up on the lift hill. He was probably 9 or 10, so certainly old enough to know better. His dad and younger brother were in the row in front of him. I snapped at him "Do you want to die, because that's how you die". Then when we got off the ride, the driver snapped at him too. More other peoples' kids.... ugh.

  8.  One of the things that I have trouble grasping is people being terrified to ride roller coasters. I actually don't really understand it. They are indeed safe. It's a very controlled situation... controlled chaos, but it's controlled. Maybe I have a warped sense of things, because I've been doing this for the majority of my life, but I just don't understand it. It seems like every time I hit the park, I hear someone arguing with someone in their group trying to get them to ride Diamondback. I have on numerous occasion stopped and mentioned it is the smoothest coaster in the park, and not to let the height scare you because it is far and beyond one of the best experiences in the park. Then I get to talking to them, and they've been on Vortex, Beast, and sometimes even Banshee, but are terrified of Diamondback. I always ask them, so you've ridden what in its day was a record setting Arrow Looper, and you're afraid of something because it's tall? I'm at about an 80% success rate of talking people into Diamondback. Of those times, I've ridden in a row near the person, and asked them after the ride what they thought, and most of them end up really enjoying it.

I personally can't wait to see what the area will look like with the Area 72 retheme.  What's everyone's thought process on it.

I am on the fence as to weither or not it's eventually going to be an entire new area (extending down to the old DA entrance).  I dont think we'll see that during this off season though.  I still feel that they are eventually planning to move the maintenance shop out to the new building that was built earlier this year and removing the current shop.  Don't really wanna see much past the end of Racer though.  I think the fact the turnaround is secluded (sort of) will add to this ride.

I greatly look forward to that part. The Beast, and Diamondback being out away from ambient light when you're doing a dark ride is AMAZING.

  10. I'm not going to lie, every day I jump on the KI website to see if that new cam is up yet. I have to imagine that they'll start going vertical in the near future. The footers are there, and there is steel showing up. I'm still stoked for a new ride experience. Can not wait for next season

I heard the operator at the Zephyr say loudly into the microphone, “Enjoy the rest of your day at Kings Island, the home of the world’s shortest giga coaster!” In any other company that person would be looking for a new job by the end of the day. Companies typically don’t take kindly to their own employees shaming their new products publicly while on company time.

One of the ops on Racer Saturday said something about "go ride Firehawk in Area 72 now, if you can find it!!" then off the mic he said "I don't like that name". Honestly, it's ok to have an opinion, but I could see how the supervisors would probably have an issue with some of those opinions being voiced by the employees.

I seem to recall it was originally part of the line when it first openned as top gun.  Then repurposed as SOB line.

When the ride was new, and was Top Gun, the station was actually 2 floors, and had the turn styles on the lower floor area. You walked through what looked like an aircraft carrier. It was actually a really cool station then.

  13. I’ve seen a lot of it today too. Disney has already done it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts to become the norm at all theme parks. I vape myself, and it makes me mad when I’m walking through the park and randomly walk through a cloud of that too.

  14. I’m at the park today. Sitting at the brew house now having an orange agave beer, but I’ll head up the tower when I’m done and snap a pic or 2. If anyone is at the park today, shout out on here and we can hang. I’m here by myself again today.

I too saw this at the annoucement, and had the oppurtunity to ask Don Helbig about it.  His response was "no that's not happening".

Who wants to bet that the next rendering video they make, they'll have redone the digital rendering of Racer? After having 150 people ask him about recaR last night, Don probably called everyone in charge of it and made it known!! LOL

I'm horrible with slow/standing heights but coasters I love. Sure the lift hills sometimes make me question why I got on it, but the rest makes it worth a few seconds of anxiety.

I used to be terrified of heights... then I bought a house. Having to get up on the roof to clean gutters, and having a few rooms in my house that have 2 story ceiling heights, and having to paint those rooms, has made me get over that fast. Now I have a few friends that call me to come over with my giant ladder to do stuff for them because they're too scared to get up there and do it. LOL.

  17.  A lot of people also go to that excuse to sound better than to say "ya know what, that's far beyond my comfort zone, I'm scared to ride that". I have a few friends that have extreme issues with heights, and won't ride coasters because of it. I'll take that (doesn't stop me from pushing them to face their fears and ride) at least they're saying "nope I'm scared of that", and it's a legitimate fear.

You can start by showing them this blogpost and video, that shows the lengths that the park goes to to ensure that their rides are safe and mechanically sound.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amusement_park_accidents

This page shows some statistics of ride accidents.

In the end of it all, I usually point out to people that I'm 38 years old. I've been riding the biggest and baddest of coasters since I was roughly 6. I rode Vortex opening season. The worst I've gotten was a bruise, and that's because I'm an arms up rider, and end up bruising my upper arms on the OTS restraints. My odds are good so far!! You're more likely to be injured by tripping while walking to the ride, than you are on the ride. Your shoe laces are more likely to cause you injury than a roller coaster.
