I wish I could go through with a flashlight or a headlamp

Gosh I miss Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror: Lights Out! it was such a neat concept even though it lasted a year.

However I feel for the actors in there who got flashbanged every 5 seconds by a group with someone who's easily scared holding the light.

  2. Been stalling on this one for a while but... may as well say it. I wouldn't have added Dinosaurs Alive whatsoever. It never really worked thematically with the area, it was in an awkward area, was an initial upcharge attraction (later only for non-passholders), and really was only an interactive trail. I enjoyed it only for the quietness it gave and how nice it was to relax and walk for a bit. I would've much rather preferred it to be just a trail (perhaps an interactive KI history gallery much like Tower Gardens), rather than DA. Aside from relaxing, I never really gave it much foot traffic personally; I only went back there for Field of Screams during Haunt.

In my opinion I am not a fan of upcharge attractions, and DA did not have a good opening because of WindSeeker's delayed opening. It left a bad start within my mind, and I could just be biased. Not to sound negative though, just needed to vent my thoughts on it. ^_^

  3. I don't mind cloned rides so long as they are unique on their own or memorable. However, if not properly maintained or cared for, it can degrade and become bad. Flight of Fear at KD is a very good example of this. From what I remember, most of the theming of FOF is gone; but also the fact that it is in an awkward area thematically. The only thing I know of that stays themed is the music. I don't remember however if the lights work, and I've heard that the TVs no longer play the pre-shows but rather FunTV. Contrast this with FOF at KI, where it is well integrated into the area both location and theme wise, and the theming on it is spectacular. The park still maintains it and even more theming was added along with Area 72 in 2020.

As for memorable rides, Italian Job is a good example. Very amazing theming, spectacular effects, and all around immersion. Though, with the buyout from Cedar Fair resulting in loss of the IJ:ST title and theming, Backlot has become a husk of itself. There are many threads about this topic but in short: it's either completely retheme or overhaul the ride, or demolish it entirely. Personally I'm on the retheme side, but there are people who would rather see it go; as they consider it to be an eyesore and a husk of itself (which I don't completely disagree with sadly).

On Diamondback, there is an additional footing at the base of the first drop connecting two existing footings, and an additional one added near the bottom of the second drop.

Orion: there is one footing that has been enlarged at the helix, appears to be #C102L (or in that area… hard to see) Another at the lowest point before the helix has been extended outward toward Racer, looks like #C85. Last one I saw extended was #C54, the lowest point exiting the turnaround. Support numbers are taken from:

Interesting how they referred to the former Firehawk photo booth/now Orion entrance as an "existing food building".

It will be interesting to how (or if) the entertainment budget cuts across the chain will show up for Haunt and WinterFest. Kings Island managed to hold onto a good number of productions and performers for the main summer season, so hopefully that means Haunt will be as close to "normal" as possible.

I hope everything will be good Winterfest wise and especially Haunt wise. After the pandemic, half of our mazes were removed and my guess was to save costs; however I really don't know why. There's times when I miss mazes like Field of Screams and Urgent Scare. Those were really fun.

For example, bring the train back somehow,

From what I've heard, the trains can only alledgedly run so many hours a year (not sure why, something to do with regulations or such) which makes some sense; but I do believe that is why Tombstone Terror-tory was removed besides the construction of Mystic/rerouting of WWC's entrance. If the restrictions are true, I believe KI would've rather run the trains during Winterfest instead of Haunt, given the 12 Days of Christmas attraction.

Also have a transition between the kids event and Haunt. If I recall correctly, last season Planet Snoopy closed right around the time Haunt began which overlaps the events.

This, as the events just abruptly shift with no warning; except for some announcements before Haunt begins. Usually Planet Snoopy closes I believe at 6 PM, which is when Haunt begins. I would personally like to see an event where everything can be slowly "fazed" out the last hour before haunt, such as having a wrap up and getting last riders in at Planet Snoopy before Haunt starts. It's hard to explain, but I just don't prefer the sudden transition it has, as @SonofBaconator stated.

If they could pull them and possibly open up even more mazes, that would ideal in my opinion.

Lastly, I'd love to see some of the monsters be put into the mazes, such as the wendigo-like monster last year that was tall and looked infernal. It would add so much value to the mazes and provide a unique scare, as it would be hard to tell if it is a scare actor in stilts/a tall costume, or an animatronic. However, there should still be a balance of monsters in scare zones, lest a repeat of Rivertown Reaping/Zombie Mall occurs.

  7. As the time rolls by this summer season, we are inching closer to Halloween Haunt for this year. Since this is apparent, I have decided to create this thread for any speculation before the season, discussion during the season, reviews of mazes and scare zones, or any other thing pertaining to Haunt.

As far as we know, we are rumored to be receiving one new maze and two new scare zones for the 2023 season (I would link the SOB station thread where this was disclosed but I do not know how to link quotes from a thread ).

Returning mazes so far as of 7/10 will be C.H.A.O.S., Cornered, Hotel St. Michelle, KillMart, Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror, and Slaughterhouse.

Returning scare zones so far as of 7/10 will be Alien X, Coney Maul, Pumpkin Eater, and International Street Fear.

Is it me or have all but a few bees have disappeared from Kings Island this season? The outdoor Coca-Cola refill stations used to be swarming in them last year. Now the only bees I have seen were carpenter bees around Race for your life Charlie Brown and the swarm in the parking lot that made the news. Has anyone else noticed this?

As concerning as it is in all of my visits, I have not even seen a single bee; let alone any near hotspots like water sources, flowers, and refill stations.

I know SOB was a janky ride but I really do miss it. Even if there's a miniscule chance that a redo of it would ever happen I would be glad, there was just something about that ride. It may have jackhammered and beat you around like a ragdoll, but it had a feeling I just can't describe. I may just be wishful thinking but I hope someday that Number 5 is alive, even if it has a new name.

Sorry for the rambling the pictures really awoke something in me

It would be great to see the old Son of Beast station demolished. It is such an eyesore. Even if Kings Island decides to build a new rollercoaster there, a completely new station would be better instead of the current station and surrounding maze of ramps. I do not see Kings Island paying to demolish it unless it a part of a bigger project, though, so if it is demolished, maybe the park does have plans for Action Zone.

Auction it off and I'll buy the entire station and queue with the $950k I don't have :D
