  1. A family member asked me the other day "Is it true that Diamondback is being torn down?"
  2. Does anyone else find it interesting that there is only one side to the station? I mean this as in loading and unloading will probably occur on the same side. My only experience with antique cars is at Cedar Point where you enter and exit on opposite sides so that's why I'm curious
  3. I was once talking to someone in rides maintenance and I remember him saying that they get there pretty early. I can't recall the exact time he said but I to say it was sometime around like 5am give or take an hour or so. It probably depends on what maintenance crew they are on but they all get there super early in order to get through all of the rides
  4. I have heard sirens while in the park before but they were very faint and sounded like they were outside of the park (I was also towards an outer edge of the inside of the park). I've been in the park a handful of times when they've done the message over the loud speaker to take shelter. One of the times they even closed the two indoor rides because of how bad they thought it was going to get but it blew over. This was all just for thunderstorms though
  5. On the topic of station location, I think the only place it would really fit well would be somewhere back in x-base (or the area formerly known as x-base). The DA area would now be extremely crowded because the entrance would then be right by Antique Cars, Vortex, and WindSeeker. I also think it's too crowded over by Banshee unless they were to make a path where the SOB station is and extend out a decent amount towards the back of Banshee. Plus this would mean we have a B&M in the three non-kiddie sections of the park
  6. I think it would be really nice to see this. I wouldn't say that Firehawk was as "iconic" if you will as SOB but it is definitely a unique coaster due to the lack of Vekoma flyers in existence. It would also be nice because it could also remind people of Geauga Lake and be an indirect "shrine" to the park
  7. Does anyone know how long the brake section is? The Wikipedia page says that the drop height is 264 and that is not including the break section. However, I know that it does not take riders over 275 feet because the 275 platform on the Eiffel Tower is the highest point a person can be in the park. That means that the brake section is only 10-11 feet tall at most which doesn't seem too likely to me. I suppose maybe the ground elevation plays a factor in this
  8. If on the off chance that the predicted 2020 coaster isn't a giga, I would love to get a B&M flyer right where Firehawk was just for the meme. I can just imagine the countless number of times you would hear "Isn't that Firehawk? I thought they tore it down". Seriously though a B&M flyer would be cool to get since there isn't one really close. It would just feel weird to replace a flying coaster with a new flying coaster
  9. I've done my fair share of riding boo blasters and to me the blasters seem super hit or miss. My high score was around 2700 with a good working blaster and then there have been times where i've only gotten a couple hundred. I've come to find out that each blaster has its own way of aiming
  10. Besides the location of the actual show building, is there an actual reason as to why the rides it has hosted have been marked as being a part of International Street? I think most people would consider the entrance to be within Planet Snoopy as its right across from Charlie Brown's Wind Up. Even the exit is on the path that is the gray area between the two areas.
  11. In reality the park is only closed to the public during the 2 weeks between Labor Day and Haunt. Those two to three weekends almost always get bought out by companies so the haunt prep really happens in the weekdays. Like someone mentioned earlier, daily operations stop 2-3 weeks before labor day since that is when most high schools and colleges go back. If you've been to the park when daily operations start in May then you know the park staffing is rough then. Just imagine that but with maybe half of the college kids as well
  12. I wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of Invertigo because the land could be used for a better ride in my opinion. Keep Flying Ace though because it was probably the most functional Vekoma in the park this year. Not to mention its a great kiddie coaster and gives kids the experience to ride "a mini Banshee"
  13. I consider it a coaster based on the fact that the model is a Zamperla Skate Coaster. I try to call it strictly a "coaster" and not a "roller coaster" though since the only reason I call it one is that the word "coaster" is in the model name
  14. If Planet Snoopy gets something new in the near future, I could see maybe putting a wild mouse there. Rumor has it that Woodstock Whirlybirds could be leaving soon because of it just not operating well recently. They've started trying the ride vehicles from Carowinds on it so if that fails they may scrap it. A wild mouse could probably fit decently in that area and they could even have it expand out into the open space between the basketball game, Surf Dog, and Snoopy's space buggies. It would also be the 5th coaster in Planet Snoopy if you include Surf Dog (which I do)
  15. It would be interesting if they did an event like the Peanuts Celebration but for Coney Mall with all of the recent focus on it. I'm not sure that they would do it this year or not but it would be cool to see in the future
  16. Where would be the ideal location to have the actual tournaments? The only location in the park I could think of is the Festhaus. They could set something up on the stage and utilize the TVs in there as well to show whats going on on in the game. Then they could also have some exhibitor stuff in Action Zone Edit: I completely forgot about the KI Theater. Having it there would make it not as much of a disruption to guests who aren't there for the event but not as many people could watch
  17. This is actually already a thing on a couple of the other rides in Planet Snoopy. Off the top of my head I can think of Peanuts 500, flying ace, and Linus launcher. Its not really a hard rule for some of these rides as some kids just flat out won't ride with others but ride ops try to do it if they can. It's mainly enforced at Peanuts 500 because it has such a low capacity (around 50 cars per hour) so its very important to pair up riders if the line is even somewhat long Personally I think it may be kind of weird for Woodstock Gliders since only one person controls the fin. If its two kids then it may not be bad but it may be pretty awkward if its two random teenagers or adults I also have a feeling that this is just for winterfest
  18. Whoops....bad typo on my part.......... I think the individual parks that use iROC form their own standards with the company and more or less just follow their 10 components. Like even within Cedar Fair there are different operating policies. As far as I know, Cedar Point uses iROC as well but they barely do any verbal signals and check some restraints from back to front compared to KI where they are required to do verbal signals and are required to check front to back. I've also been told that Carowinds does their operations differently even though they also use iROC. KI sent some ride ops there for a week this spring to help with a week of daily ops and a few I know all told me that Carowinds doesn't do certain things that Kings Island does like spieling for downtime if the ride gets stuck. Granted these parks didn't earn the award like KI so it may not be the best to compare them but it just kind of shows that parks with iROC aren't always consistent with each other
  19. http://amusementtoday.com/2018/12/international-ride-training-announces-the-2018-iroc-ride-operations-excellence-award-winning-parks/ It was just released today that Kings Island is one of four parks to receive the 2018 iROC Audit Excellence Award. Congrats to all of the ride ops for doing a great job and keeping everyone safe (Sorry if this has already been mentioned in another topic)
  20. When I was there opening night potato works was open so you should be in luck. I know at least some of the games are open and some even have a holiday theme to them like the soccer game was transformed into a hockey version. Some of the games are priced in a new way though where you play until you win but the price you pay determines your prize level. If you plan on riding the train then I would suggest maybe trying to do that right before close. I rode it one and a half times (the second time we made it half way to the Soak City station but couldn't make it up the grade because of a water leak and rode back to Rivertown backwards) once right when it opened at 6 and the half as the last cycle of the night. There was a fairly log line when it first opened but we walked right on for the last cycle. I highly recommend ice skating on the royal fountain. I did it during the middle time block and it was sold out so make sure you plan around that. I would recommend the last time block because when I passed by the fountain during the last block there was barely anyone and you get until 10:30 even though the park closes at 10
  21. Even though the park is opening at 4 on certain days, the rides are not opening until 5 regardless of the day. I think it mainly has to do with labor laws because the extra hour would throw off the way they run breaks and stuff like that. On this note, I've heard that on New Year's Eve the rides are only open until 10pm because of issues with the state certifications only being valid for 2018 and needing renewed as of the first of every year
  22. This definitely is not the biggest change but the removal of Ghoster Coaster/addition of water maze, Plankton's plunge, and Avatar the Last Airbender was fairly big. Plus just the entire change from Hanna Barbera to Nick Universe was pretty big cosmetically. And then the change to Planet Snoopy
