Spending that money at Dollywood is a wise choice, and I'm sure you guys will have a great time there! I'm jealous!

We are heading there this weekend. My first time in several years (pre-Wildwood Grove) and her first time ever.

It does feel nice to spend the money someplace that genuinely cares about the guest experience.

    You are correct.

Same with passes in general. “We can do anything we want and they’ll still come.” Won’t change until they don’t come.

That tipping point was this year for me. Last year, my wife and I both had Platinum passes with the dining plan, drink plan, and all-park, all-season Fast Lane; easily $3,000 between us.

I waited a long time before deciding one way or the other, but budget cuts, devaluation of our passes, safety concerns, unknowns due to the merger, and a complete lack of park communication are just some of the reasons we came to this conclusion.

Instead, we got Dollywood passes for the first time. This will be the first year I won't have a pass since I was a child, which does make me sad. Unfortunately, I can't imagine my choice will make much of a dent. Unless a large percentage of the passholder base follows suit, nothing will change.

I personally have no clue how people lose phones out of pockets? I've ridden nearly 200 coasters around the country and I've taken a phone in my pocket on any that I was allowed to and never had an issue. You push it down in there and once you put down the lap bar or harness it's kinda smashed in your pocket. I know not everyone's pockets are the same but it's hard for me to believe that some people who lose articles out of their pockets never secured them in their pockets to begin with

I’ve only lost my phone once- this past Saturday on i305. It was secured in a buttoned cargo pocket and still managed to get free. Has never happened to me on Maverick- with similar restraints.
I’ve also been decked in the face by a phone on Millie- but that was someone who was trying to record.

My suspicion is that since they installed many  of their rides in a few parks, they got a deal on a multi ride purchase. With that deal, they were able to give KI the opportunity to get two.

That, and Huss isn’t exactly the most reliable manufacturer anymore… see: Timber Tower at Dollywood.

Do you know specifically where they added them?

On Diamondback, there is an additional footing at the base of the first drop connecting two existing footings, and an additional one added near the bottom of the second drop.

Orion: there is one footing that has been enlarged at the helix, appears to be #C102L (or in that area… hard to see) Another at the lowest point before the helix has been extended outward toward Racer, looks like #C85. Last one I saw extended was #C54, the lowest point exiting the turnaround. Support numbers are taken from:

I keep seeing people assuming B&M or Clermont had to have made a mistake.  If a footer moved, especially if it’s the one supporting the diagonal, the forces imparted to the support would be increased and I believe the failure would look exactly like what we have seen.

The top of the support appears to be pushed outward away from the support, which is the direction it broke in.  My theory is they do a survey and find the diagonals footer sunk into the ground more than expected.

Not sure if I have seen anyone else here mention it, but Orion had some large additional footings added last off season. Take a look next time you ride, you can see the different shades of concrete where they were added.

When looking at the elevators from the que entrance, left elevator goes to the 265 and right goes to the 275. Both elevators can only go to their respective levels.

I’ve always wondered what was in the room above the two platforms. There’s a couple AC units up there, which as a child I always liked to imagine that was the park’s “weather office” where the calls to close rides for lightning came from. I’m sure it’s just cell and communications equipment.

I tried the beef, got two slices that were not much thicker than lunch meat. I got to say I was quite underwhelmed. The meat was dry, the potatoes were okay, I've got to say, the bread was the best part. I was hoping this would be a go-to restaurant for me, but it's not looking good so far.

I got the same meal as you yesterday. Agree with all of the above.
I had this exact meal the day G&G opened, and the difference between now and then is night and day. The meat is colder, dryer, and less flavorful than just a few weeks ago, and the potatoes have less sauce and are undercooked now.  The bread seemed like it was just uncut Larosa’s bread sticks, though it was the warmest of the three items.

There are two Fenton Rigging cranes in the parking lot today. Fenton Rigging has done many rigging projects with Kings Island before. I wonder if vertical construction on the new flat rides is going to start soon.

I watched Fenton unload one of the PLC cabinets for one of the new rides yesterday. Big, shiny, stainless steel.

  10. Very tasty! I had the Rosemary Beef, Potatoes, and naan. Beef was well seasoned and very tender- though I wish the rosemary came through a little more. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and had a little kick in the sauce. The naan tasted just like the naan I had at KD at their G&G (which was good!). All in all very good! I am looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

The rides not being delivered does not mean they haven't run the wiring. Which is an opportunity for things to go wrong, for things they didn't anticipate needing fixed/replaced to need fixed/replaced, etc.

At one point in the park's history, Flight of Fear and Drop Tower were on the same circuit. FoF could not be launched if DT was running. That Drop Tower, Delirium, and The Bat would be on a separate circuit from Banshee and Invertigo is not a completely irrational suggestion.

Why would Bat's incident last year affect it today? Why would Drop Tower bring down for lightning last year affect today? Among many possibilities, the latter and Delirium's wires could, dare I say it, be answered by the idea that the electrical infrastructure needs some work.

For the record, at no point have I said that electrical issues ARE what's happening. I am spitballing. I don't know any facts.

I would expect the pad mount utility transformers to be run on a loop. This means that each transformer connects to the next, forming a circle (or any number of shapes) with each primary (the high voltage side, Duke is usually 12.47 or 13.8kV, though the park has its own substation so it could vary). This arrangement would allow any single transformer to be taken offline for maintenance since it can be fed from either side. At least one utility transformer would need to be added or replaced to add the two flat rides- if you notice, there is a transformer right behind the games storage building next to Adventure Express that you can see from The Racer Exit. That transformer was replaced this year, likely to a larger size to accommodate the new rides.
From my perspective, I can’t imagine the new flats and The Bat are related. It has its own transformer down at the base of the station.

Did you have a green icing in the middle? It seems like it has that filling about half the time. It’s never exactly in the middle, and it’s never consistent. Very good, though!

It had what I would call green residue on the bottom- like maybe it was in there and baked out or something. So no, no green filling was actually in there.

Just tried one of these- so good! Mine only had 5 M&Ms on top. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, exactly how I like a cookie.  Flavor was very dark-chocolate-y. Like a brownie gave a cookie a chocolate hug.

The air filled structure that was located where Tower Gardens is now, was an air filled structure.  It relied on the air pressure on the interior to keep it up.  It collapsed due to a snow storm putting increased load on the roof, that the interior air pressure could not support.

A lot of the old Geiger designed (or derived) tensile membrane structures in the 70s and 80s had real problems with snow accumulation. Modern ones seem to employ a roof slope and texture that causes to snow to slide off rather than accumulate.

Entering the Silverdome and RCA dome airlocks are some of my fondest memories from high school band.

Venues like an amusement park, schools, stadiums, theaters etc. are not secure like an airport (and their "secureness" is questionable).

It's too easy to get a weapon onto the property for someone who is determined to do it.

The visual of a metal detector is very similar to a chaperone policy.  It looks nice, it is a deterrent, but the actual effectiveness is lacking.

    Reminds me of this:
