  1. No matter how rough a wooden coaster is or how much jackhammering goes on, I still generally find them fun. Grizzly at KD, Minebuster at CW, or Legend at HW come to mind- I usually get off laughing and thinking “that was so awful I need to do it again”. I generally don’t classify wooden coasters into my list of worst coasters; the roughness is part of the fun. My pick would be Vortex at Carowinds. There is nothing redeeming about it.
  2. Remember, one of those is a channel for fall protection harnesses. Banshee, Valravn, and Fury all have these. Diamondback uses a steel cable, but is the same concept. If you look closely at their lifts on POVs you can see it.
  3. I think it should be a full blown TSA checkpoint. Full body scanners, explosive detectors, the works!
  4. How about a dueling launched S&S Axis??
  5. First run usually goes without trims so that they can be sure it will complete the circuit, then they will be dialed in to the design speed. Last thing you would want on the first test would be a valley due to overzealous trims.
  6. Vortex is my #1 most disliked coaster I have ever been on. I'm not sure a floorless conversion could even help it with a layout that is so short.
  7. Per RMC at IAAPA, the issue of loud lifts *should* be able to be resolved with new rubber tips on the anti-rollbacks.
  8. With inflation, that’s $10,600,000 today! Still a deal.
  9. If you could pick one coaster to have built in your backyard to ride whenever you want, what would it be? To make it a little more interesting, only list an existing ride model that costs less than $10,000,000. If RCDB or Wikipedia (or any other official source) do not list a price, it doesn’t count! My personal choice, a Chance Hyper GT-X! Lightning Run is one of my favorite coasters.
  10. A retrack could go a long way. I might be in the minority, but I find FoF to be one of the roughest rides in the park. It certainly wouldn’t be cheap to retrack it, but wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world, either. If it ever were to get a partial/full track replacement, I’d guess it would get an LSM conversion too.
  11. I think the MCBR before the corkscrew is what was meant.
  12. Have to disagree here- totally different concepts that are 100+ years apart. Wright Brothers were mentioned, as well as DaVinci. Those are totally different time periods than a spaceship and a meteor strike.
  13. I’m also pretty sure that those were also purchased while the company was still S&S Power/Worldwide, not the current S&S-Sansei that also owns Vekoma. It will be interesting to see if that makes any difference.
  14. Part of what you are seeing is the oxidation on the exposed steel part of the rails. Without the train wheels keeping that oxidation from forming, that orange rust color really starts to show through. It's just like how brake rotors get a thin layer of rust on them when it rains.
  15. Question: why not make the first drop go all the way to the ground?
  16. The Big Red Machine - a ground-up RMC on The Vortex plot of land....
  17. I wish the safety brakes would be retrofitted (or supplemented) with some magnetic brakes. Would make that stop way less painful, and would probably cut down the friction brake wear.
  18. If you haven’t heard, there will be a new sports complex opening in Hamilton in late 2021. Spooky Nook Sports Hamilton will be the second Spooky Nook location, after one in PA. This complex will become the largest indoor sports complex in North America upon completion, over 700,000sf. Here are a few links outlining the project: https://www.spookynooksports.com/hamilton https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2018/10/26/spooky-nook-hamilton-butler-county-sports-complex/1772078002/ Just recently, the steel for the pre-engineered metal buildings began to arrive- with foundations and steel erection to follow. https://www.journal-news.com/business/newest-signal-spooky-nook-progress-hamilton-truckloads-steel/GjJFEDDtjULbZuoKIMu5iL/ The facility will also contain a full size restaurant, rock climbing walls, and a sizable arcade.
  19. The crane that was next to the lift hill is now disassembled in the parking lot and in the process of being transported out.
