The way the Skyline restaurants do it, 1-2 people puts together ways, 1-2 on coneys, one on burrito bar (salads, wraps, chilitos, pretty much everything else).  Depends on table size and layout, but each person puts together the items in full, not via assembly line. I can make make a full rack of 8 cheese coneys in under 30 seconds.  I work drive thru a lot and have to often put $50-70 orders together on my own on busy shifts.  I've even put together very large catering orders (in the ballpark of 100-300 coneys) together in an hour during a dinner rush in Clifton (because UC frats/sororities/AD stuffs).  I'd say a table crew at the restaurants can put together an average order for a family of 4-5 in under a minute (unless there are fries, most Skylines cook fries to order and those take 3-4 minutes depending on the fryer and its servers' discression whether to take them out with the whole order or take them separately).   The one in CM is more well suited for making Skyline so they can use both sides of the table, the on one I-Street doing it a la Subway is extremely inefficient.

I never eat Skyline at the park (more due to not wanting chili+coasters, sounds like a terrible combination to me, the only time I consider it is before my Haunt visits and I usually eat at the one just outside the park or at Blue Ash Chili that's also close by), so I've never really seen them in action on a consistent basis.

Obviously, making it all automated  orders cuts down on order confusion since there's a LOT of different lingo used to order Skyline (mostly coneys).  But siphoning everything to one location is going to be a pain for that staff.

If you want to see how its done, assuming they're somewhat well staffed, go to one outside the park.  I think KI should partner with the one just outside the park to train employees before putting them on the line in the park.

I’ve been saying this for years!! I worked at a skyline for many years and watching KI workers assemble hurts to watch lol… not their fault, but at least having outside of the park skyline employees train them would help. Additionally, KI skyline is not quite the same as revalue skyline (crinkle cut fries, and I don’t *think* they shred their own cheese like skylines do) but all in all I think it would make the most sense to just have an independent skyline set up shop in the park. I’m sure this changes things financially but I know that myself and others would get in-park skyline more often if I knew it was from a “real” skyline. Just my opinion :)

Tried two things over the weekend: Eiffel Tower pretzel (French Corner) and Banshee Scream dog (Jukebox).

It looked more like an uppercase “A” than the Eiffel Tower but it was soft and had a buttery taste. I’ll be getting this one again.

The Banshee Scream Dog wasn’t much to look at, but the taste was very good! It’s probably the first hotdog that I’d recommend. Haha

These aren’t on the 50th list, but they came from the Sweet Spot. They are chocolate covered Oreos with gold coloring. I’ve tried several sweets for the 50th and this is the only one that I’d do again. The others were very good, but I’m not really into sweets. This had a very subtle taste that I really enjoyed!

was the Eifel tower pretzel a 50th anniversary menu item? I'd love to try it this year!

Pine trees grow pretty quick and don't suffer from ask borer beetle.

  4. I love this idea! I have been saying for years that Rivertown needs more of spotlight. I think hosting a festival around the area would be killing two birds with one stone essentially, b/c if they're going to host it they would definitely re-vamp the area a bit. I also wish they would do more with the train ride! I have heard about the live actors that used to be throughout the train ride so something like that would be really awesome to bring back, or even wax figures set up in western scenes maybe!

  5. I love this topic! My dad and I always discussed how much we loved the varying smells at KI. Here are a few (not in order) favorites of mine:

    1. Food-- specifically PARK skyline and larosa's (they DO taste different), funnel cakes, festhaus in general... and at Haunt, the kettlecorn, and hot chocolate at Winterfest!

    2. Water -- chlorine from the fountain, and running water from WWC and congo falls. Makes me wanna swim in it! Lol

    3. Coaster smells -- Chain grease, leather seats, and specifically the smell of the wood from coasters and que lines when its been in the sun all day... smells.. warm?? haha

    4. Sunscreen! -- Makes you feel like there's a fun-filled day ahead in the sunshine.

    5. Probably my number one KI smell.... the fog/fog machines at Haunt. Nothing like it.

Sooooo... who's tryna go in on a "KI Smells" candle making company? Lmao

  6. First of all, its Mystic Timbers hands down. However, Orion still does have great theming.

MT essentially is built around its' theme, which is why I love it. Between the truck, que line, music, train design and shed it is a total experience.

Orion definitely has this same "experience" vibe as you walk through the lab before getting on the ride and I love it, but it doesn't measure up to MT's in my opinion. Orion is more about the coaster - and it should be!

Overall, I respect a ride that makes an effort to sell it's "theme." Not everyone feels that way but the best rides have his quality in my opinion!

  7. I would love for this to be kept as an indoor ride. KI needs more, and they can be pretty badass. I just realized how out of place the outside of this building is in Rivertown? It would be so cool to turn it into a indoor coaster like the Mineshaft ride in Dollywood-- that way they get a new indoor ride and can add some much-needed theming in Rivertown.

  8. I won't stand for Boo slander!

Just kidding, you're all entitled to your opinions, and with respect to the past dark rides prior, I love this ride! I was a huge scooby doo fan back in the day because of course I loved that theming, but it is still a good ride. Different than any at the park, and I love the style of the paintings. I could go for some refreshments and some modern technology, but overall I am happy with the ride. Although a phantom theater comeback would be absolutely awesome!!

  9. I actually have had a reoccurring dream about KI. The line to The Beast was a fun house  like you literally had to go through it to get to the line for the ride. The fun house had multiple levels, trampolines, slides, etc.... it was wild. and I’ve had it twice! months apart...

The murals on the rounding boards and on the central drum of the carousel were painted by Carole Lanter in 1969 when the ride was still at Coney Island. The restoration effort was supervised by Coney's special effects coordinator Dick Harsley and all 48 hand carved horses were repainted by Bill Tull.

I attended the memorabilia sale at Coney Island on September 26, 2020 and purchased a photo of Carole Lanter repainting one of the murals during the restoration. You can also find this photo in the book "Cincinnati's Coney Island" by Charles Jacques Jr.

  11. I am a huge fan of the grand carousel. As a lifetime KI gold pass member, I have many fond childhood memories on it. However, my favorite memory has to be spending my days nannying three kids who also happen to have KI passes (best gig ever), and our tradition was to start every day with them taking a carousel ride as I drank my morning coffee from the starbucks on IS (I was in charge of three children who weren't mine; I needed it). Today I really love seeing the carousel lit up at night, especially during Winterfest. Something that ha always interested me however was the paintings of landscapes on the carosel, anyone know anything about them? TIA

  12. Love this topic! Really like seeing the friendly debate in the thread as well.

Having been to both parks of course, I have to agree with the general consensus of this thread — CP is all about thrills and KI is about all-around experience.

So depending on what you like, hard to say which park is “better.” I personally like the aesthetic and overall experience of Kings Island. Don’t get me wrong I love a good coaster, but KI has those (just not as big as CP), along with great food options, better themes, year-round events (usually) and just better vibes as you walk around the park. It had character. CP is too commercialized for me. However, CP is still an awesome park.

  13. Winterfest is my favorite Cincinnati-area christmas attraction. They go into serious detail in every corner of the park, changing all the restaurant and shop names. The lights display beats the zoo! There’s just magic in the air. Here are some of my fav pics I’ve taken, from the last two years!

  14. I love this idea. AZ has never been a theme I liked and Oktoberfest needs more ground because its awesome! Doing a german/spooky hallow theme would be fantastic. I also don't hate the idea of one year round haunted house at the park, and this would be a perfect spot for it. You have my vote!!

  15. I agree! One of my favorite parts of the park is the themed areas, especially Rivertown and Oktoberfest. I would love to see KI turn it’s attention to aesthetic detail now that they’ve added 2 new rides in recent years.
