  1. Hey guys so I'm writing a piece about this and thought it would be fun to have a discussion. I saw a lot of people saturday on facebook and twitter commenting that they felt Fast Pass was contributing to creating kind of a miserable experience for a lot of people at KI (and parks in general). I've seen this topic discussed in other threads (where it wasn't necessarily relevant) before, and it sometimes became a bit contentious so I was hoping to have an actual civil conversation about it here. Personally, I'd really like to hear from both sides and I'd like to suggest a few rules here:

1.) We are all aware that from a monetary perspective it is better for the park itself to have something like fast pass. The benefits from a business perspective to charging up to an extra $150 per person on top of abmission are obvious, and not really worth discussing. Please keep the discussion to whether or not fast pass is good or bad for the guest.

2.) Please keep it civil. No personal judgements.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to it.

I do too! The Orion decoding thread was my first one that I was apart of and it was fun! I've read through the Banshee and Mystic Timbers one and those looked like fun too! However, I do think it'll be another few years until we see it. I do want it to come sooner, but I just have this feeling in my mind that we are about to go on a bit of a coaster drought especially with covid and all. I've had the year 2027 in my mind for a while.

Totally possible. I've been thinking 2025 myself.

  3. I agree with those saying they're just cleaning up back there, but all this has me thinking: I really can't wait until the next time we go to the park for the first time in a season and see actual land clearing for a new attraction going on. I think being on here and following the Orion decoding thread from when we first saw the patch of land to the announcement was some of the most fun I've had in this hobby lol. Looking forward to doing it again!

  4. Personally I have to say I wouldn't at all be happy with them removing rides in order to build a bigger concert venue. I'd be much happier seeing them just pull timberwolf out and build a new ride back there, but that's just me I'm sure some of you would like the bigger venue.

Oh wow I had completely forgotten about this somehow lol!

I definitely do see how some of this is a bit of a bummer, but like I said above, I really do think this is likely just for this season. It does seem to me that they could have kept this a bit shorter though, not sure what the point is of running it every night the entire season. It's kind of hard to get upset right now though because last season was really more or less a bust and I just really can't wait for saturday lol.

I disagree. I honestly think having a screen there would make it look nice as long as they add some type of themed video that goes along with the theme and not fun TV's during the day.

I mostly agree with you. My only problem with this is they did a lot of really nice theming work on area 72 that this is going to distract from a bit, and I think that's kind of shame considering a lot of people who would normally go to Kings Island probably didn't go last year when it was new. That being said though, I'm not sure why this is so upsetting to some here. It's really not that big of a deal and I'd be surprised if its not just a temporary event for this season.

I don't think we'll be seeing much in terms of attractions in the chain next year due to Covid and with several parks staying shut the entire season. I believe the 2021 season in some ways will be basically a due over for what this season was supposed to be. I believe 2022 will be when we'll start seeing the investments pick up.

Agreed. We would also probably have some idea what was coming in 2021 by now if we were getting something, right?

Something I'm finding interesting is that Kings Island is posting videos about The Bat on their social media pages more than other coasters. Probably just a coincidence since enthusiasts did start getting interested when the park posted a lot of things about Racer in 2018 which was the same season the guy that many thought was Fred Grubb from RMC was spotted around Racer.

This is because they've started a new video series and recently completed one on The Bat.

It's not an awful ride, but it is fairly ugly and takes up nice real estate. It's just so milk toast that I feel bad hating on it. It really does just feel like a thing of the Paramount era.

I mean if what were talking about here is removing a coaster at KI and replacing it with a Ferris Wheel, I'd be 100% against that no matter what coaster at the park it is. What an awful trade.

I really don’t like it at all. Last year’s loop was so much better. It was way more grandiose! It was so nice to hear those great movie scores and classical pieces playing all day while I worked at Emporium. The new one feels a lot cheaper, like something you’d hear in a “fancy” WalMart. I was up at Cedar Point a few weeks ago and when they started playing The Cowboys Overture in FrontierTown, it was very moving. That’s the one I miss hearing the most while I work. John Williams will always be superior over covers of Sia!

Thank you. I couldn't agree with this more. It's cheasy and terrible. Why did they change this? Is it some kind of licensing thing? Was waaaaaay better before.

BLSC has a more powerful launch than a mack.  Can do so much better for less $.

Well if we could just have anything I'd love to see something like Accelerator or TTD. I really like how accelerator has more to the layout than the top hat so I'd almost just prefer something exactly like that.

  12. Resurrecting this thread as I'm looking for up to date numbers as well and I'm hoping someone knows where I can find them. Specifically I was hoping to find ridership numbers for Invertigo if anyone knows where I might be able to find that I'd really appreciate it.

A white spraying indicates an excavation. One can’t excavate beneath a road without removing it. I’ve done surveying and marking of sites in the past. Any surface with a white marker means it will be removed for excavation.

Furthermore, since it’s a dead end road, there’s little use for the park to keep it.

So whats your take on this then? Why would they remove the road? What possibilities do we see here?

  14. A lot of people are expressing doubt about CF doing anything significant here and I definitely tend to agree, but the one thing that has me wondering is the idea of the entrance plaza. Timing doesn't seem great but at the same time, is it really all that crazy to think they'd want to have this done ahead of the 2022 season? (if they have interest in doing it at all that is.)

  15. I'm really not sure why everyone is so convinced that because we have BLSC and FoF they wouldn't build another launch coaster at KI. Kind of reminds me of when people said Orion was going to be too much like Diamondback. I could easily see a mack multi-launch taking the place of Vortex. I mean, there's a lot of other stuff that could go there too, but I don't think we can just totally discount the idea of something like Copperhead Strike going there.  Personally I'd like to see them do something like Time Traveler, especially in that spot. It's such a good spot for someone to stop and have a drink or something to eat and watch a coaster, or take pictures.

While I would wish for something else, what if in order to fill the gap since Vortex's removal was unexpected, could it be a possibility that Cedar Fair would relocated a Floorless to Kings Island. What if The Vortex came from Carowinds and we had another Vortex, of course that would confuse the GP. But since the park just spent $30M on a new giga, a relocated Floorless might not be a bad idea, kind of like relocating Dominator to KD from Geauga Lake. It would get new life at a different park.

    This would be extremely annoying.

Invertago has been on the chopping block for some time.

According to who? Just because people talk about how they think Invertigo will be removed every single year doesn't mean it's on the chopping block.

Orion has had a train stuck on the lift hill for the past 30 minutes.  Not sure if there are passengers aboard.  Everything in Action Zone is running.

That definitely supports the power theory.

I swear I saw Orion cycle once but don't take my word for it. Staff is saying electrical and I don't buy it. She even said "it's a bad day to be in the park."  Like I can predict whether it's gonna be a bad day to visit the park based on anything but weather before I drive almost 2 hours. Comments like that just make things worse.

Oh man I'm sorry...I'd be so upset if I drove 2 hours to get there and it just happened to be a day like this...I hope things open up so it'll end up being worth it.
