So it's my first day at Kings Island this year. Got here at 10:30am. It's 12:06 and Orion, Diamondback, Mystic, and Beast are all still not running. I'm not happy and may leave soon if this doesn't change. If they are going to run a park with most of the best rides closed including the new one then why even bother opening.

Any indication of what the problem is? comment 2 above yours suggests there could be power issues, but according to people at the park they've seen the rides cycling they just aren't letting people on.

I hear the park is having power problems. Is this true? My shift starts at 3:45.

Hey man it's been a while! Haven't been on here in a good bit, good to see familiar faces!

I don't know what the issue is specifically but I'm hearing that Diamondback, Orion, Mystic Timbers, and The Beast are all down, so there's something going on.

What few realize, is that the smaller Cedar Fair parks offer the company some geographic diversity.  If Ohio has a crummy wet summer, but Kansas City has record a record year, that will help to balance out the soft summer season at the Ohio parks.  That was one of the pitches of the Schlitterbahn acquisition, was that they were further diversifying their geographic reach, so a bad summer in one market won`t negatively impact the finances of the company.  If they sold off some of these smaller parks, they loose that advantage.

Hopefully, this turns out to be nothing but a nasty rumor.  I too would fear what would happen to events like Grand Carnivale and the Royal Finale.

That's a really interesting point that I hadn't considered at all. If I recall correctly though, aren't there parks in the chain that Cedar Fair has signaled they're open to selling? I feel like I've heard talk of CF wanting to sell Great America for a while.

I’m just so confused, it’s not a maintenance nightmare and they just removed a major coaster last season. The future is not looking very bright to say the least if they keep this trend up. I get some people don’t like Vortex but it was a popular, easy to run reliable ride. I don’t know why they’ve done what they done but I’m incredibly disappointed in their decision.

I get the disappointment but I think they did this because they have something planned for that area. It's definitely possible that in a couple years we'll be happy with whatever they put there.

I understand that the area won’t be vacant for long and I do understand the reasoning behind it’s removal, however, we are getting Orion for next year. That land will probably stay vacant for 3-5 years before  another coaster is put there. Unless they plan on some unexpected expansion of Coney Mall. Firehawk was off the beaten path and it’s presence isn’t really missed. Vortex has a large presence and it will be missed.

I don't really understand why people are so certain it'll be 3-5 years. I get that there's a pattern of new additions, but doesn't this development signal things might be different this time? I could be wrong, but I just don't see them leaving that plot empty for that long.

  5. During daily operations I visit the park A LOT through May, June, and July, and August. Since I've been doing this, I haven't ONCE seen someone smoking outside of a smoking section.  Vaping, yes, but never smoking. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I definitely think it's being blown out of proportion here. I like this forum a lot, but man there is a lot of "THE PARK NEEDS TO BAN THIS OR THAT!" around here. Just relax and enjoy the park.

I was there yesterday and noticed that the audio and videos were different than i remembered for FoF as well, I just thought maybe they were finally updating after using the same ones for so long or that I was just crazy lol but now that @Chriss84 has mentioned the same thing I think they might be on to something.

Ok wait, that's really interesting. In what way is it different? I haven't been on it in like a month or so.

I'm at the park and got the chance to talk to Don Helbig a little bit. He told me that the platforms that are blocked off will be where the media will be. He also recommends we get here early.

What's early exactly? Was going to spend the day there but plans fell through and won't be able to make it until nearly 4 now. Please don't tell me I'm going to have to go straight back there..lol

On the topic of Fast Lane (and admittedly offtopic of the thread) I am not opposed to the system in general, but do believe on too many occasions falls victim to mismanagement. Its supposed to be reduced wait, not NO wait.

Exactly. I tend to go during the week, avoiding weekends like the plague, and so most of the time it really doesn't bother me to wait in the regular line and let the FLP people pass me by. I have noticed though, that some of the most popular attractions (especially Diamondback, but Mystic Timbers also) seem to have improperly trained line separators who will fill nearly an entire train with FLP people before allowing anyone from the regular line to ride.

Also, it has been extremely rare that I’ve seen people with Fast Lane riding the same ride over and over. Usually they do it once or twice before moving on to something else.

You're lucky then because I also visit the park very often and I see it all the time, especially on Diamondback. I've seen the line on Diamondback grind to a HALT once you get a group of teenagers with FL going through together and immediately jumping back on.

Oh well, hope you are able to get up to CP AND their rides are up and running. On my trip up several rides were having maintenance issues, TTD, Maverick and Valrvn. That day we also left early as the power went out at the park around 7pm. Got one ride on Maverick, Valrvn so I look forward to be able to ride them more as well as Steel Vengeance. Happy riding to all!!

I know Top Thrill Dragster looks like it might be out a while, but If I went up there and couldn't get on Maverick or SV I'd be really bummed. Those are probably the two I'm most looking forward to. Hopefully TTD is back up by then as well because I really do want to try that one out.

  13. Are you still able to do the payment plan for passes you buy early for 2020? I have to buy four and was planning on getting Platinum passes this year as well as some other upgrades, so definitely makes it a bit easier.

I spend premium money to purchase the Fast Lane passes when I go to the park. I don’t live close enough to the park to benefit from purchasing a season pass so I buy the Fast Lane pass instead on the 1-3 times I do make it to the park each year. I say this so people won’t be so upset when they are passed up in line, fully understanding they also can purchase a pass to do the same.

I mean maybe YOU can but a lot of people can't justify spending that much money just to get on rides faster. You do you man, but just know people are going to get annoyed when they've been waiting in line 30-40 minutes already and somebody just waltzes on past them. I usually don't really get irritated until I see a group just looping around me getting 4-5 rides to my 1. Certain ride ops do a really ****ty job and will fill almost whole trains with just FLP. It's one of the worst things CF did to the park IMO.

I do understand why you do it though, and I've been advised many times that when I finally make it up to Cedar Point for the first time in like a decade here soon, that I should buy one because otherwise I won't get anything done.

    I sure hope so!

How could they charge that type of $ and say sorry, you can't ride the new one

I mean on the other hand it's going to be some bull**** watching people just loop around you over and over and over while you wait in the 2 hour plus line.

I know this probably won't happen, but Polaris and Orion were only trademarked by Cedar Fair, not KI. I know that's normal, but what if Orion and Polaris were the names for both the sides on Racer 75 (Rebel Yell) and gave it a different theme?

This has been mentioned before. I'm just curious since people keep bringing this up: does anyone have any examples of a park naming trains on a ride and trademarking them?

  17. Why is everyone so convinced the ride is going to be named something other than Polaris or Orion? Even if it's not going to be either of those, the chances of it just being something random people have pulled from thin air are pretty slim....

Traditionally, the “topping off” of a roller coaster refers to the installation of the highest piece of track. So in this case it would refer to the peak of the lift hill.

Ah gotcha, that makes sense. I was thinking that seemed way too soon for the track to be finished, I know Banshee took a lot longer than that at least.

What season?  I bet it’s topped off by the end of haunt.

Seriously?! That would be awesome. By topped off you mean the final piece of track? Or am I misinterpreting that?
