  1. Alright, top options for me. Because I'm bored.

    1. RMC T-Rex. First of its kind (technically), KI finally gets an RMC, might be a dueling coaster as well (judging by that concept that got leaked from IAAPA a while back). Perfect addition.
    2. Gestlauer Dive Machine. Brilliant lighting scheme, inversion machine. No launches please.
    3. MACK Launch Coaster. Uses the terrain a bunch, tons of hangtime.
    4. B&M Flyer. Only one around, more terrain usage.
    5. B&M Dive Machine. 50/50 on this one. It might ruin The Beast's secluded feel, but it wouldn't be a bad addition. Not unique at all though.
    6. RMC Hybrid. Oh boy, unpopular opinion time. I actually rank this lower than a couple of B&M's. I just think that it might be wooden coaster overkill, and KI is sandwiched between two parks with existing RMC's. Not to say that it would be a bad coaster, but it wouldn't be super unique.
    7. B&M Floorless. Most boring out of all the options.

That is not the case though. They already said the raptor models can go up to 200 feet so there is no reason for the Trex. All they did with The trains was add some cars and the coaster layout accommodates the longer trains. like I said I think they over hyped the Trex model.

Unfortunately, I don’t see King’s  Island going over 14 coasters just from a cost stand point with labor. So I do agree with taking one out while adding a new coaster. Just sucks that we had 2 coasters leave while only 1 is going in.

Just because Raptors can go up to 200 hundred feet doesn't mean that T-Rex's can't go below 200. The only difference between the two types is one has two seats a row (or more) and the Raptor only has one.

Also, don't forget that we just got Mystic Timbers. So technically, two coasters in, two coasters out. Makes sense.

I know someone said back that Cedar Fair doesn’t want to spend the capital on coasters like they used too. I was at the park Sunday thinking if Vortex was at the end of its life Flight Deck and Adventure Express aren’t far behind.  In all honesty Invertago should go too. There are a lot of coasters that could be considered for removal and I personally see a lot of changes for KI more quickly rather than more slowly. Not to mention the water park and kids area both could use an update. The park seems to have gotten old really fast.

Yeah, no. They're not going to remove that many coasters in a short time frame. It seems to be a 'Soul for a soul' kind of situation. We lost Son of Beast, Vortex, and Firehawk, and in return we gained Banshee, Mystic Timbers, and Orion. Next one to fall will probably be Invertigo or Bat, demolished shortly before/after whatever goes on The Vortex land opens. And Adventure Express is another park classic, I doubt it goes anywhere any time soon.

Who says they are?? I heard a model in between the raptor and Trex was going to be built. Now whatever that means we do not know. Will it be two seats or one like the raptor we will see.

I think they talked up the Trex too much and now realize it does not make sense to build a Trex shorter than 300 feet. So now they are trying to accommodate parks that want a single rail style ride that can handle high capacity crowds but not be a gigantic 500 foot coaster. So coming soon will be the raptor XL or the mini Trex take your pick.

We already know what that's going to be, it's the new Jersey Devil Coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure (it has 12 single rows instead of 8 like the normal Raptors). And they're going to build a T-Rex under 200 feet before they go higher.

  5. Oh boy, I'm gonna get trashed for this.....

I can see Wicked Twister taking up some of the land freed up by Vortex. Why? Cedar Point has been rumored to be removing WT for a while, and moving it onto The Vortex land would allow them to showcase a new addition while still having enough room for another coaster down the line. Invertigo has been rumored to be on the chopping block for a while now as well. A couple of flats (I'm thinking a clone of Lumberjack from Canada's Wonderland and a unique flat ride of some sorts), Wicked Twister, a restaurant, and (later down the line) a Mack multi-launch would be a perfect use of space.

  6. It's going to be a dive coaster of some kind. Maybe a gerstlauer dive machine like Hangtime. If not that, then an RMC Raptor with advanced capacity like Jersey Devil (that would be nuts).

Or..... imagine if they build a B&M floorless coaster on that land with the same layout as Vortex, but without the roughness and maintenance issues.

    Bad reputation?  How so?

Just look at all the replies on Twitter and Reddit. Most people aren't surprised and say that it's rough. Not enjoyable.

Trust me, I'm upset as much as everyone else on this forum, but this has been coming for a while now. I'm more mad about the fact that there's going to be a giant section of the park left empty. Maybe they put a new restaurant or flat in that space for the time being?

Here's an idea. What if the lack of teasing IS teasing! This is like an Area 51 project! It's Top Secret!

You guys know they've been teasing this whole time right? Building a coaster and not saying a word about it.. that's the ultimate tease.

    Tell that to BGT.

Just as a friendly reminder: Please refrain from quoting an excessive amount of text or unnecessary photos  : )

And unlike the last time Cedar Fair instituted techno music (onto a certain "themed" attraction of long ago), this time it will actually be even remotely fitting! :P

Dang, I never realized that Tomb Raider was an indoor Top-Spin. Always wanted to ride one of those.

    Let’s get those pics!

I just posted your latest layout (with the blue color scheme) on Reddit, and it's actually making people change their minds about the coaster. Everyone seems to love it!

Even if it's short, it'll still have the same impact on attendance as a dive coaster would, and it'll definitely have the better reception among enthusiasts.

I know you're joking, but we don't know where the 1035.9' height is exactly, so you might be right! Is it rail height, heartline height, handrail height, etc.? Don't know right now.

I suspect the next batch of blueprints will reveal more. The recent lift hill blueprint has cross sections going thru it, including right at the crest. I would bet the cross section view would give us accurate heights and more info, similar to the cross section views of the station.

I'm going to die on the inside if the lift hill height turns out to be 299 feet. Might start calling this world's first giper (half giga, half hyper).

A bit more analysis of the blueprints.

It's been discussed, but I don't remember seeing any pics confirming it... the trains are definitely 8 cars long. There are 8 clear separate queue lines in the station, with the front seat and back seat having its own queue line. There is also an elevator on the exit side (no surprise here, but wanted to mention it).

    station analysis.jpg

In the queue line, there are multiple locations of "FUN TV" (yellow, below) and mister fans (blue, below). There were some talks about what's inside the new prop building. Per these prints, there is no planned electrical or plumbing inside of there. There's indication of some lights just outside of the prop building, but nothing going on inside, and no large footings suggesting this building is anything substantial. I expect it'll be some simple structural building decor.

    queue analysis.jpg

There are planned "DMX lighting" locations along the entire length of the coaster, particularly near all high points. If you're not familiar with DMX lights, no, unfortunately X is not gunna give it to ya...DMX lights are just network-controlled lights. Looks like each high point will have a light shining upwards, highlighting the track and supports, even in the back turnaround near The Beast. With them being DMX lights, they might have the ability to change the color on the fly instead of just plain white all the time. Something to look forward to.

    DMX lighting.jpg

Finally, I'm going to update my lift height number to 296'. I found the below note on the original blueprints, and the 740' is also the elevation around the entire station area. Max height of 1035.9' minus this 740' elevation gives us a height of 296'. I've suggested this below, but now I'm noticing that the blueprints are calling out this particular height as "zero". Yes, the crest of the lift is still ~286' above the ground directly below it, but it looks like the project's zero height is around the station, which would give us a height of 296'. (MSL is "mean sea level")

    740 msl.jpg

    Updated estimates:

    --296' tall

    --301' drop

    --81deg drop

    --5089' long

You gotta be kidding me. Four feet from a 300 foot lift hill. They didn't have enough money for four feet of steel?

Co-founder of KI looked over these designs. Claims 300 to 305 ft. And he said there might be a vertical loop. He doesnt work at KI anymore, but if he calls this stuff wouldnt that be cool. And an inversion on a giga? Thatd be breaking the space time continuum.

There sure as hell won't be a vertical loop, but I could see that "Treble-Clef" going upside-down like a dive loop. I still don't think it's happening though.

  15. I find it funny that everyone is complaining that this coaster is so short when it's longer, taller, and probably faster than all the coasters at Busch Gardens Tampa (my home park). Not to mention that it actually has airtime (none of the coasters I've ridden in Florida have airtime, and I've ridden quite a few). I'd kill to have this down here.

This is just a piece to a much larger puzzle. I grew up going to KI once a week, and when I got my first car multiple times a week with my friends. I moved away from Ohio for a decade or so, and now once again live close to the park. Maybe it's maturing or being used Orlando theme parks, but all I see at KI now are money grabs and the service severely lacking in quite a few areas. I have a laundry list of issues we have experienced in only 4 visits to the park, and quite frankly I do not see the value in what we purchased. The park had a golden ring opportunity with this thing, and IMO let it slip out of their hands. Spend the few extra bucks it would take to get this thing to have a 321 foot drop. DB, MT and Banshee were great additons, but KI fans that grew up with the park  have become accustomed to world breaking rides or industry firsts. Don't deliver a subpar product (again, not even including this coaster) and expect me to still hand my cash over. Simple as that.

As someone who lives in the Orlando area and goes to those theme parks often, I actually prefer KI over them in most departments. Last time I went to KI (and the only time I went there) was right after Banshee opened, so maybe things have changed since, I don't know. But last time I went to KI I found the services, rides, and food to be excellent. The only thing that was disappointing is that the lines for the rides were somehow longer than the lines I encountered at BGT and Universal.

It looks like The Beast's 40+ year run as the best coaster in the park may finally come to an end.

It came to an end when Banshee opened, imo. Haven't tried Diamondback or Mystic Timbers yet.

  18. Sorry to reply to an old thread, but Kings Island definitely needs another modern looping coaster after the giga. The park currently has four looping coasters: Banshee (fantastic), Vortex (okay), FoF (clone), and Invertigo (clone). Most of the parks major coasters in 2020 will not have an inversion (Giga, Diamondback, Mystic Timbers, Beast, Racer). I'm a fan of airtime moments, but the park will starting to have too much of them.

Here's to hoping that a Gestlauer Infinity coaster or a Mack multi-launch is next.
