  1. The tiny wave pool looks like fun for little ones! It's interesting that they are adding a second play structure.  I wonder if the older one will return for 2020.  I'm surprised they aren't putting in a mat racer slide.

I like how Cedar Fair is getting creative with new waterpark additions.  The little wave pool here and the cliff jumping attraction at Canada's Wonderland are definitely unique but simple concepts at the same time.

IndyGuy4KI's personal thoughts. I think they did not want to go higher because they do not want to go above the Eiffel Tower. I could be wrong, but I think that drives it more than not beating CP.

I agree with this whole heartedly! A coaster that’s 10 feet taller than the Eiffel Tower would just look... strange. I think if they go taller, it needs to be in the 400 foot range and go on the far north side of the park.

I know this name was dead in 2010, but what attraction was the name for? It is from Cedar Fair.

Highly rumored to have been considered for WindSeeker. Furthermore, there was speculation that this would have been the name if Cedar Fair went with Funtime as opposed to Mondial.

Those slides look cool! On the topic of waterpark rethemes/re-naming, I wonder if Dorney Park could be up for consideration; their water park is huge! To be fair, though, they do have a unique name in Wildwater Kingdom (not sure if any other Cedar Fair waterparks carry that name).

Not since Geauga Lake / Wildwater Kindom stand alone waterpark closed.  Michigan's Adventure's waterpark is named Wildwater Adventure though.  Speaking of Geauga Lake, I am kind of surprised that their giant slide complex was never relocated to another park.  It was already relocated once from when Six Flags had the waterpark other side of the lake so maybe it couldn't handle another relocation.

Their most recent install was Muskoka Plunge. Prior to that it was the multi-mini-funnel slide complex (Typhoon) that you are thinking of.

Good call.  I missed that one since I was relying on aerial images and Muskoka Plunge didn't stand out since it's just the 4 slides.  So that just leaves Michigan's Adventure without the drop box slides.  CW appears to have gone with a different manufacturer - Splashtacular.  I believe all of the other drop box / snake pit slide complexes were done by Whitewater.  Valley Fair has a slight variation since they opted out of the tube slides and went with regular body slides instead.

Canada’s wonderland also has its original waterpark name so I definitely could foresee a similar renovation with a new name.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the waterparks at MIA and CW.

CW escaped the Boomerang Bay and Soak City rethemes. I think their last slide install was a relocation from a defunct park. I don’t think the waterpark there is a major draw due to the lower summer temperatures in Toronto.

MIA’s waterpark is a big draw for that park but new attractions come few and far between.

  6. Pro tip for guys- use the bathroom outside the front gate if you need to go #2. It’s crazy that there’s only one stall in the inside front gate bathroom. (Sorry, too much?)

Also, if you have kids, you should definitely utilize the Family Care Center!

Nah, most likely not a steel drum, or drum of any sort that the bolts would've come in. Speaking as a mechincal engineer, bolts like that would come in a crates, with cardboard/foam insolation between each bolt to prevent shifting/ rubbing as any damage to the bolt would be catastrophic. If they just loaded a bunch of bolts into a steel drum they'd all bust around and get damaged. Bolts like that can't be treated the same as a box of screws, gotta be careful with them. (Sorry for the rant, just felt like clearing it up lol)

Thank you. I could have sworn I saw some bolts for Diamondback packaged in a steel drum in oil. Is that possible? I’m now thinking I’m crazy as my Google searches are coming up short on the subject.

  8. Kings Island already admitting defeat by declaring that this coaster will be trash. Seriously though, it’s probably a steel drum that the bolts came in. There appears to be a black one next to the T shaped footer.

  9. Kings Dominion is missing a mat racer slide.  It's the only slide complex I can think of Cedar Fair adding in recent memory other than the drop slides which KD already has.  http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/ has a theory that they'll eventually move all of the waterpark to the other side of Racer 75.  That makes sense to me as the 2 slide towers left on the other side are originals.  Interestingly, KI has the same slides which are also originals.  However, I hope they can move the Proslide tube ride or replace it with the modern version https://www.proslide.com/rides/pipeline/.  It's a great starter water slide for kids and still lots of fun.  The old body slides can go.  Water coasters don't seem to be Cedar Fair's thing.

I think this is a sign that Volcano's removal truly was a last minute decision as they clearly had other 2020 plans on the books.

There's no way the wave pool site would be combined with the Volcano site.  However, the old waterpark site could be.  Is it conceivable that Cedar Fair would add a B&M Hyper in the same park as I305? It could go right over top of Backlot like Behemoth does.

Edit: To further this thought, they could move the park entrance of the waterpark to between Apple Zapple and Twisted Timbers.  Add a parking lot behind TT and you're all set.  I'm sure the long walk from the parking lot to the waterpark is a huge deterrent for people.  It would be for me.  Trips to the waterpark with kids requires a lot of stuff.

I always think it’s cool when names of things have “Y”s where the “I”s should be, such as naming my Suicune in Pokémon Go Myst, as I think it sounds mysterious and edgy. Also, the whole cutting off letters (Valravn, Invadr) makes a ride name cool, imo.

    Polris, Plaris, Polars?

    Orin, Orn, Oron?

I give up.  I don't think it will work for 2020.

Has a hashtag ever been officially part of the name the way a number has though?  This could be groundbreaking!

Actually a chunk of the GP are buzzing about the project as well. Like there are always some GP up on the ET looking at the construction site and saying "that's where the new ride is going." Plus I'm sure a good chunk of them watch wcpo and saw the stuff John Matarese reported on. Like I ran into a few people once who came up on the tower to see the construction site because they saw the reports about it on the news.

John Matarese isn’t wasting his money! By being ahead of the curve on this one, he’s getting all the clicks.

  13. The park will make an announcement. If nothing else, because the cost to do so is next to nothing. All they have to do is wine and dine the local media and they’ll get “free” advertising. However, the amount of paid advertising that they do will be considerably less than say, 20 years ago, because of the power of social media.

  14. The park will probably make an announcement when they’re ready to sell 2020 season passes. They don’t need to make an announcement before the first track piece arrives or immediately after. The day the first track piece arrives will add to the excitement either way. I don’t think they’ll try to hide the track back behind Banshee. The easiest way to get the track to the site would be through the park. That service road under Banshee has a lot of hills to navigate. Not impossible but I think unlikely. So I think they’ll either stage it in the parking lot or take it straight back and store it on the unused portion of the Firehawk site.

Diamondback opened during the Nickelodeon Universe era. Boy do I miss it!

That’s right! I forgot about that. It’s crazy that Nickelodeon Universe was only around for 4 seasons (excluding Nickelodeon Central). NU was so well done.

^Would you say something like a 4 hour wait is going to be a common scenario for this thing? This is the first time I've ever followed a new attraction like this so I don't really know what it's going to be like. I know by 2018, Mystic Timbers lines didn't seem that bad at all, no idea what they were like year one though.

It seems that people are telling horror stories of opening day crowds. On Diamondback’s opening morning, it went full queue, into Planet Snoopy, toward the Eiffel Tower, past Floral Clock, past the DB splash down and maxed out at Reds Hall of Fame Grill. The line came within about 30 feet of crossing back over itself. That never came close to happening again.

As long as this ride is running 3 trains and has minimal downtime, I think 90 minutes will be the extreme after the first few weekends.

With regards to queue design, you don’t design a permanent queue for opening day crowds. Since Diamondback, KI has had a plan with temp queues for opening day and the first few weekends. I’m sure the 2020 coaster will use the service road like Banshee did.

I’ve thought more about why the Firehawk queue isn’t being used for the new coaster. Logistically, it makes sense to move the entrance to the right side so that it doesn’t block FOF when the new ride goes beyond full queue.

This way, the line will hug the fence-line on the right when it gets long and is probably why the food stand is being removed. Is FOF photo still gone? Maybe we’ll see some 20oz’s and pretzels being sold there.
