I'm sure Don can clarify better than I can, but my assumption is the health screening is not an in-person doctor's visit, but a list of questions you can answer online or via an app. I work for a university and we're just starting to phase workers back in, and that's how we're doing it. You go in 24 hours before coming to work and answer questions about symptoms, recent travel and exposure. Takes five minutes. They give you a barcode to be scanned at the door and you're done.

i'm sure it's just a few checkbox questions before you make your reservation online.

  2. I'm willing to bet that everything will be open by July. There's already protests, and governors are already starting to cave. And now with these antibody tests, they're finding out that pretty much everyone has or had it anyway and by the end of May, the true scope of the virus will come to light. Everyone I've talked with in the last week or so says they would rather just get the virus instead of deal with all this other stuff. The governments will come to the conclusion.. If people don't want to risk it they can choose to stay home, everyone else is free to do as they want.

These places requiring people to where masks and or gloves is ridiculous, both are actually way more likely to spread the virus, and other germs. Taking temp also does nothing, you can be infected and contagious days before you get a fever, not to mention 80%+ of the people who get it have no symptoms and have also been found to actually be more contagious.

I'm willing to bet that the track work on The Beast is all normal off-season maintenance.  People don't realize how much work and replacement is done on a normal basis.

It seems more significant than that, I don't ever remember seeing so much fresh wood. It looks like they focused on the area exiting the helix, which is where the track was the roughest. If you pause that "Kings Island Orion test run, and other Coasters Mavic 2 Zoom" video 6:52 you can see most of it.

What track work on Beast?  Do you have pics/videos of it?

It's in the drone vids everyone is talking about. Looks like a ton of track work, a few new supports, and a bunch of replaced wood all over, mostly on the second half lift hill and helix.

  5. I don't think Vortex area has been leveled, I still see all the footers. It's just hard to tell elevation change when looking down onto the site. And maybe I'm missing it in a different thread but, I but can't believe no one is talking about all the work done on The Beast.

VR on a giga coaster would be kind of bad imo, half the thrill of a giga coaster is seeing how high up you are

I agree, I love VR but not on coasters. They're always trying to sell Fast Lane passes though and people would go for it.

I don't think we'll see VR on this coaster. That would slow down operations significantly. I believe CF stopped doing VR on Iron Dragon.

It wouldn't slow anything down if they did it Fast Lane only. It slows down operations when they do it with everyone one the train in the station. If they did Fast Lane only and pre-rigged all the headsets while in line, I don't see that slowing anything down.. except the Fast Lane line maybe.

You know what would've been cool? A completely enclosed stairway with LED lights.

I thought that but there's already an open railing on both side. My other thought, which I initially thought way back when we first saw that quonset hut is something like VR, and that building is the prep area. Would they do VR for Fast Lane only and the wall is to prevent people from giving the headset to people in the other line?

  9. I think there's gonna be some surprise with this ride that we don't know yet. Unknown quonset hut purpose and now solid wall between fast pass and regular lines. That wall even turns the corner at the top of the steps. Interesting to say the least.

This drone guy on YouTube is putting up tons of flyover videos of Kings Island. There are some that go over Orion, as well as near The Beast, and Diamondback, as well as the old Vortex plot of land. I won't be posting them here because of the rules on here about those.

A bit off Orion topic but with that guy.. and his Beast flyover.. it looks like there has been significant work done on the second half of The Beast. Both track and new supports, I'm glad to see all the new wood on the area coming out of the helix as this area was the most rough part of the entire track.

The crane is still holding the track piece. Why?

the crane is left attached until every single bolt is torqued to to spec. There's still a lift up there with people working on it so I would guess they're still working on the bolts

*or maybe they're bring it back down...

It would take a very good welder and a ton of time to weld the tracks together, also the connection is probably a little too rigid at that point.

In the fury 325 construction documentary, they mention that the bolts holding the sections of track together are torqued to 500+ foot lbs each.. so that's pretty rigid lol. But the track is designed to move and sway as whole on the supports.

I realize B&M is considered one of if not the best with manufacturing tolerances but are we certain the sections are just bolted together?  Seems like without any sealant or gasket over time water could seep through joints start corroding the structure from within.

there is a cap a few inches back from each end. see these pics https://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48745&start=1360

Does anyone understand why this is being called an "AUCTION"?

    https://www.visitkingsisland.com/play/events/orion-first-riders-auction

They SURE make it SOUND like all you have to do is raise a minimum of $150 in donations you are "IN" to attend the event on April 9 with "unlimited" rides on Orion.

Where does the "auction" part of the name come in?   They never say they are "auctioning off" the chance to ride or anything like that...

$150 of other people's money gets me a ride as one of the first people???

They do an  extremely poor job of explaining this..

It sound like you need to make your own Facebook page to get people to pledge.. maybe lol.  They will take the top 32 people with the most donations for the first ride. Those are the only two somewhat clear things I understand from this.

EDIT: It's not a Facebook page, it's a page on https://www.firstgiving.com/. You set it up when you click "Join Now" on this page https://www.firstgiving.com/event/410830/Orion-First-Riders-Auction/participants

That's a tough sell.. asking people to donate money.. so that I could ride a coaster lol.

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like two sections of track, laid on their sides, side-by-side:

yep.. i think they're up on some blocks ready to pick

I wonder if Ccleo has a problem. Weird they drove out of the helix with the boom up.. and it's still up.
