  1. Not likely since The Vortex is 33 years old and getting shut down
  2. I so badly wanted to ride it but I was not tall enough at the time. I was so sad when they took it out. I have one of the Frisbee's somewhere.
  3. How long does a lift chain last? I would assume they would last a really long time but assuming makes an a$$ out of me now and then. Just curious if anyone has any information on this?
  4. This day and age it would not surprise me. Many people today don't know what it is like to have to work hard in any conditions.
  5. This picture don't show them capped off. I would assume they are cut very perfectly flush with the outside brace so that they don't have a gap. If so, I almost wonder if they leave a slight overhang, maybe .010, to get a solid crush together? I know nothing, I am just thinking out loud. Just hard to imagine they butt together but I am sure you are right
  6. Question on assembly, When they bolt two pieces of track together, do they weld the smaller tubes together that the wheels roll on and then grind them down? Are they male and female and slip together? Never thought about that before but I am assuming that with them painted all ready, they are not welding them? If not welded, how do they keep water from getting inside? Would love to know the more specific details of how things go together
  7. This may not be allowed. This was from the first year they had cameras on The Vortex. We found the cameras and decided to do this. Back then they would let you buy the pictures like this. I can't remember what that year was but I know it was the first year the cameras were installed.
  8. Now I am sad I did not ride it this year. We went two times and is the first two times I never went on it. It has gotten a little to rough for me and I am to the point I have to choose between it or The Beast for one ride and I will never choose something else over The Beast. I can ride the smooth stuff over and over but I am just getting old, lol. Now I want to go back ASAP but I don't think I can
  9. Funny, it looks like the first support is as tall as The Racer.... Boy how times change!
  10. Looks to me like the first piece that transitions into the lift hill just pulled in and headed to the crane?
  11. Did very many people like Firehawk? I rode it one time and thought it was rather boring and never rode it again. Maybe it was just the day I was there but the line was really slow moving also. I was really happy when I heard it was getting replaced with something new.
  12. On bring a friend, Are they allowed the early access also or do they wait till the official opening?
  13. lol. very true but also very exciting
  14. I am always fastened by the workings of a ride. I would actually love to be a maintenance guy or mechanic for the park but could never move to the area. I was wondering if the park has one central air compressor to feed most of the rides or one at each ride? I would assume each ride that requires it has it's own. Wondering what size they are and what brands they find most reliable.
  15. You young pups make me feel old. I am 45 and remember those days like it was yesterday. Had a great time doing that back then. Does the forum have a large meetup at KI any time? Would almost be worth going just to take part in getting it going for a day, lol. Does KI ever do any thing like have a 70's or 80's week?
  16. Was open Saturday. I got my kids to yell with me "TASTES GREAT" but couldn't get anyone to understand what I was trying to do. When we got off, the other riders getting on said they remembered and thanked me for bringing back a great memory. If it wasn't so busy I would have gotten back on and on the other sad from those guys.
  17. I have read this here a few times but had never had a problem myself to know the issue. Well, Saturday for the first time I experienced the issue. We got off of FOF and was going to hit dodgem buy my wife needed to go to the bathroom. The closest ones I knew of was near The Racer so we headed there and never made it back to Dodgem. Ended up hitting the Viking Fury since it was open.
  18. Great news! I had my wife and kids stand back far enough to not hear me. I told the guy what I was hoping to do and that i already submitted the pictures. he said it would be no problem at all. He could see them and that they matched the pictures. and completed the transaction. We got to the gate and I just went in front of my girls to have the lady scanned the cards and the girls didn't suspect a thing.
  19. That is what I was afraid of. I may go to the window by myself first and at least ask the question if something can be done to prevent them from knowing. If not, it is not that big of deal. Tomorrows trip was a sudden thing and not worth buying more tickets just to prevent them from knowing. It is my oldest girls birthday tomorrow so I guess it could become a REALLY expensive birthday gift, lol Thanks for all the help and if something else comes to mine please post it
  20. OH, Ok... I understand now where to go. For some reason I thought we went in first. They are already closed now. What time does processing center open tomorrow morning? I can't find it on the website
  21. I did submit the pictures. I just printed my papers for the gold pass. I think I understood that I just go to the line to get in and they scan them but not sure where we get the gold passes after we get in and if the kids have to be with me. They are to old to slip much by them
  22. Complicated question.... I got our 2020 Gold Passes for the first time but did not want to tell the kids till Christmas. We are going tomorrow. I am not sure what happens when we give them the printed papers? Will we be able to get in and then I let my wife and kids go on while I get the actual cards or do they have to be there in person? I told the kids we got free tickets from a guy at work but I have to bring him some kind of card back so that if they see something maybe I can just blow it off like it is for the guy at work. Any advice here or will I have to tell the kids? Eric
  23. Would have to go MUCH faster than 70 MPH just to get it over the hump, lol. Maybe they could add counter weights to make it easier to get over the hump.
  24. I did not read all the replies and maybe someone has said this but it is FAR less expensive to maintain the rides to a very high safety standard than to have an accident. An accident not only cost money for injury, it costs far more in the reputation of not being a safe park. An amusement park could never exist if they were as dangerous as non riders claimed they were.
