If memory serves me right, Mystic usually ran with two trains during Winterfest from previous years. Even with that, there would still be days where the wait would still exceed an hour. It doesn't really help that it's the only major coaster open on that side of the park, and the other major coaster is all the way in Area 72.

But yes, I also wish that there was some way to have more coasters open during Winterfest, but I also understand why the options are so limited in that department. Looking at both Mystic Timbers and FoF, it makes sense as to why both of those coasters are open. Mystic Timbers isn't that long and stays low to the ground after the second drop. Flight of Fear is completely indoors, so it isn't affected by the temperature outside. Anything else besides that would likely be at risk of valleying, hence why they don't run.

Looking at this footage, it seems Energylandia has no problem running at least some of its coasters in cold conditions, including rides like Hyperion and Zadra. This is important to note since their Family Boomerang has the same exact layout as SSBR. I haven't seen footage of Energylandia's Family Boomerang running in cold weather, but if they do run it in weather like this, it's a pretty safe bet that Kings Island could run SSBR during Winterfest no problem. It's also worth noting that if we do get some sort of launch coaster in The Vortex plot that stays low to the ground, then that could also run during winterfest too. It would mainly depend on the manufacturer though, as I can't see B&M wanting to run a coaster in colder conditions.

Big Bear Mountain and Dragonflier are both able to operate at Dollywood during their Christmas event. I know they are different ride types but same ride manufacturer. The trains on Big Bear will be almost the exact same on SSBR. I know Silver Dollar City operates almost all of their coasters as well. Including Outlaw Run and Time Traveler.

So the trolley is free, but imagine that it is broke lol.

Flight of cheer is only one train ops.

On the plus side Grain & Grill is busy. No doubt cause it is indoors lol.

Mystic Timbers is currently a 90 minute wait. Is it on one train ops as well? This further confirms my thought that we need more coasters open at WinterFest. Hopefully Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers will be able to run at this time of year in 2024.

  3. I received an update for my Carowinds app yesterday and it comes with a new app design. I have to say it’s really nice and clean. The new updated map look makes it really easy to find anything on the map. I hope other CF parks roll out this new design as well. The only problem is on the sign in page I can’t scroll down or exit the keyboard to click on log in.

If any of you have had the chance to check it out let me know what you think.

Kings Island released a blog about Winterfest today. In a recent Tower Topics, Don Helbig and I posed the question of, “where will these extra two million lights be?” This forced the answer that is in this blog. The answer: eh…. they’re around.

    https://www.visitkingsisland.com/blog/2023/november/winterfest-2023-preview?utm_source=park_facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=winterfest_park_map_11_16_23&utm_id=23WAS&fbclid=IwAR2CLluzvdN8fCU3VcTIgcRicVpn13jFEcESMtF7HFhSTenSYTlT0Dwxzp4_aem_AVb5eEj5r0r332z3gEcB03gcg8wAyeJJXxqVCXKxq97v4paY5oHYlnVULTQhAEGyuQPCAdya90JANIh6qSLQoDvL

Alternatively, here is a blog by TheParksByDon.com that paints a pretty cool story of what Winterfest is:

Hopefully we’ll notice a difference in the lights amount and it doesn’t just look like the same amount in previous years.

I’m glad that Sol Spin and Cargo Loco will be open this Winterfest! I’m curious why Adventure Express won’t be open though. That would be such a cool experience to ride it with all of those lights.

I hope that Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers will be open next Winterfest. It would add up more to our winter coaster collection. I don’t see why not when Big Bear Mountain and Dragonflier will both be open for Smoky Mountain Christmas down at Dollywood.

The first S&S Axis coaster, with 2 launches and 4 inversions, themed to the Transformers to open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This is a concept that I was hoping someone would finally take a chance on. I've seen the basic testing video on the S&S website. If this proves to be a reliable ride, would you like to see one installed at Kings Island?

Personally I would like one but not as our next coaster. Maybe a couple coasters then this. The next one we need has to have true inversions and the axis doesn’t.

Note that Orion is a B&M, so it's a completely different team building the trains.  It's also important to note that these aren't just mockups, these are actual train cars that Zamperla will be sending off to Sandusky for TT2.  One would expect that if seat belts were a design requirement, then they would've been incorporated at Zamperla's facility in Italy.

Of course, anything is possible.  It could be that they plan to attach them later.  Or, someone could make a last minute decision.  Not that that's ever happened at Cedar Point before (*ahem* WildCat removal *ahem).

I agree with you. I just think people don’t expect CP to go with no seatbelts. The lightning trains on display at IAAPA last year did not have seatbelts either. I’m pretty sure it’s a class 5 restraint anyway.

Also does anyone know if there will be a max height requirement on TT2? I’ve heard rumors that there will be but I can’t seem to find anything.

The Pit Stop video was just released on CP’s YouTube channel. Looks fantastic! This has made me even more excited for this ride! No seatbelts is awesome! The trains have such an open design and being 400+ feet in the air with those restraints is going to be awesome. Cedar Point going with no seatbelts is the biggest surprise for me. They must have a lot of trust in Zamperla with almost all of their coasters having seatbelts if I am correct.

  8. 2022 was my favorite season at KI and CF overall. They ran the parks so well. It felt like CF had everything figured out and they were adding a ton of things. All of a sudden this year it has felt to me that something is off. 2023 KI atmosphere was some of the saddest I’ve seen in years. It felt like Paramount days. CF continues to remove things and make budget cuts. It saddens me to see all of the budget cuts and low employee moral has become. I love Kings Island and I have been going for many many years and I know how good the park can be. I just hope Cedar Fair can figure some things out and maybe 2024 and 2025 will be better. I don’t want to hate on Cedar Fair because they really have taken our park to the next level I am just so passionate about KI I just don’t want it to be treated this way. Maybe this Six Flags merger will be a good thing if the parks as a whole make more money so less budget cuts are made.

    Some highlights....um lowlights...

    Opening Day April 20th 10am to 9pm.

May weekday hours are 10am to 6pm and 9pm weekend closes (7pm on Sundays) until Memorial Day weekend.

No closing hours past 10pm during daily operation (not showing Haunt yet), but 10pm closes for 4th of July.

Daily operation ends August 12th.  No 8pm closes in August as they removed a week from historical operation.

Wow. If this continues to next year I don’t think I’ll be renewing my pass. I used to love going Friday mornings when kids would have school and there would be no lines but now I can’t go on Friday’s in August until 5pm. That is outrageous.

Only 1 public operating day this entire April??? We used to be open 3 weekends in April a couple years ago. At least we still have 10pm closes in the summer months. Enjoy that while you can until it’s 8pm closes in a couple years.
