  1. Been quiet here for alittle over three weeks, any news?
  2. What is up with the shadow under the truck, a phantom light pole?
  3. Rocky Mountain Construction also does Skycoaster installation and water park construction. Both of which Cedar Point is currently doing.
  4. This can go one of two ways.... Ghost Town Village(In The Sky) Or Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe(Water Country North Carolina, Aqua Gardens, Emerald Pointe) Emerald Pointe has had a wooden coaster(never installed), a water coaster, a Halloween Haunt maze, batting cages, Skycoaster, Ziplines and more that have been removed. It really was more like a FFC when it opened in the 80s than a water park.
  5. Carowinds has a campground behind the park. While not quite the nicest part of Charlotte, it is far from the worst. Gang related is my guess too.
  6. http://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/paramedics-respond-to-shooting-on-carowinds-blvd/437618116 Update, avoiding one word.
  7. Heart breaking that my home park has to deal with crap like this, but I really think that all amusement parks should require id of the adults and minors that are being dropped off. That way should something happen the parks would have an idea as to who may be involved and who to call for an emergency contact. I figure three line employees doing such would cost around $500-700 a day.
  8. Until she rots and collapses, I think this is a sader fate than Thunder Road or Rolling Thunder.
  9. Yes. Local carpenters assisted with its construction, with Philadelphia Toboggan's supervision I'm sure. Well we all know how those woodies turned out...I'm not too sure about Riverside Cyclone, but Thunder Road was alright until the paint faded and caused the bare wood to rot, which caused structural damage that plagued its life. Both opened with rave reviews and had a lot of fans.Back on topic, though, I was at the park yesterday and got to see the construction up close. I found it interesting that the footings indicated that the coaster is crossing the train tracks. Should look nice when it's completed. True statements about Thunder Road!
  10. I volunteer myself, I have been a member for 12 years, previously moderated my own forum plus a few other sites.
  11. Mystic Timbers cross the railroad just after the right turn out of the station, you can see the gravel roadbed animated.

  13. I wonder if the footings get deeper where the coaster crosses the train.
  14. Could we see a bent go up today? I bet it will be next week.
  15. Sinking? You mean settling and packing down, a solid base and properly drained gravel base will not sink into the mud. Actually weeds and grass will grow in the gravel on top of the weed barrier and if grass/weed killer is kept on the gravel(and weeds are pulled) then they won't have to mow. However it is still about the same amount of work.This. As a horticulturist, it makes me scratch my head that landscape fabric is still sold and advertised as preventing weeds. Using it for other applications is one thing, but my tip of the day if you're thinking about doing some landscaping, skip this step and save you some money. Plant material is going to grow wherever it wants and if that means soil drifting into gravel or whatever media, and weed seeds blowing into said soil, they're going to grow. Mother nature at its finestI used it under the mulch around my garden railroad, and as you stated that is what happened. I also use it under the gravel roadbed for my miniature ride on railroad to keep any mud, dirt or soil from under the roadbed from coming in contact with my wood crossties. I know I am getting off topic but do you think in my case the keep is wasting money? Back on topic, KI posted another picture of bents saying real soon. Just checked the webcam, no bents yet. :-(

  17. "In 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes (30,296 fatal crashes), killing 32,999 and injuring 2,239,000.[2]"Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motor_vehicle_deaths_in_U.S._by_year As compared to 4,400 injuries of probably nearly 60 million visitors to amusement parks nationwide. Source: "Dr. Gary Smith, director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, analyzed the data from between 1990 and 2010 and estimated that an average of more than 4,400 children per year are injured on rides at amusement parks and water parks." From the article you posted. My point being accidents will happen no matter how much regulation there is, furthermore what percentage is rider error.

So only the Cedar Fair parks that start a C or a K, two letters that can make the same sound.
  19. Maybe even connected in that nothing is happening with them for the time being.Could be, I am expecting that Mean Streak will be rumble and footers by the end of September. New coaster in 2018 or 2019.
  20. Only GCIs I rode is Thunderhead, the first drop surprised me with the sudden airtime and the steepness.
  21. I don't know what to make of that, but I read somewhere that Cedar Point said the same thing. Maybe Mean Streak and Hurler's futures are connected somehow?
  22. Looking at the webcam is the first half of the drop going to be that tight?
  23. Hmm, maybe I should have watched the entire Annoucement. I got bored after they started talking about the Pre-K pass and figuring the rest of it was nothing important.
  24. Actually this is the way the world works, Cedar Fair applied for similar incentives as they did for Carowinds. The Kings Dominion incentives were rejected so Cedar Fair turned their attention to Carowinds, I firmly believe the Cedar Fair is making low investments to KD as a direct result. This results in low growth of attendance and more importantly the surrounding area doesn't get the increase in tax revenue that they would get if Cedar Fair were investing large amounts of money. I also believe that KD's budget for operations was cut last year resulting in Hurler closing, the real question is will the budget be increased enough for Hurler to open next year. Furthermore, Kings Dominion likely trolled their fans to get attention. They got hopes up and likely made some money from enthusiasts visiting expecting to see Hurler return either by a GCI redo or RMC overhaul. They didn't hype their Annoucement as much as Carowinds did the new County Fair.
