  1. "Welcome back riders, we hope you enjoyed your ride. Push down and pull up on the lap bar and exit to your right. (Something about enjoying your day at Paramount's Kings Island)" Is this him?
  2. I think there will ALWAYS be a group of people who are pretty passionate about Son of Beast. How would YOU like it if the park took it out? That would be one less world-class kick-ass coaster that the Island has. I ride Son of Beast once per visit because it causes great amounts of pain to my chest/heart (yeah, I'm 16...go figure). It's a sweet ride. If it was a steel coaster, my bet is that it would be up with Millennium Force as one of the world's best coasters. The design is amazing. Who expected a 218 foot tall, 78 mi/hr wooden hypercoaster with an inversion to be as smooth as a Bolliger and Mabillard or Intamin AG hyper steel coaster? As with many things (including you know what), some people like the ride rough, some people can't take anything but a smooth trip. Am I making sense here?

    Myths

Ever notice the same people who say something like "I swear, the moved that hill on Adventure Express...it used to be over there!" or "They made Son of Beast taller!" are the same people who are standing in line with cigarettes in their mouths, beards down to their belly buttons (women, too) and have OFFENSIVELY short shorts on?
  4. Purple reminds me of condoms...this comment could get me banned...
  5. Yeah, you would REALLY want to make sure that the seats don't make a sudden manuever on you when you're least expecting it...that could be a VERY, VERY BAD DAY for a guy...
  6. I find it EXTREMELY annoying when people smoke in the queue...sometimes I almost yell at them for doing it. Park rules specifically state that there is no smoking in the queues. Then again, the people who are usually doing the smoking don't look intelligent enough to read and understand English. Designated smoking areas would be AMAZING and would make the park's more thrilling rides more family-friendly. It won't happen, but I would consider going to the park more if I knew that I wouldn't be inhaling smoke all day.
  7. Sometimes is wierd places in the park (such as parts of O.C.), I can smell something that reminds me of sweetened, molding (I think) ketchup. Can anyone verify this? Where does this smell come from?
  8. Has anyone here ever ridden Dragster up at the Point? They have this sweet kick-ass remix of Republica - Ready to Go and over it, a guy talks about Dragster (hands back, hold on, talles coaster, etc.). It's sweet, because it has been oddly (and possibly accidentally) so that as this clip of music is playing, the trains are launched or are going up the tower...GAH! It's hard to explain but it's awesome. They also (used to) play music in the queue. I think playing music (GOOD music with no foul language, and music that any ride patron could listen to) would really make waiting in those *long* 15 minute lines easier.
  9. It's the constant sarcasm...my vote goes to Steve.
  10. Heh...it always made me think that the trains were actually POWERED by lasers...lol "I WILL USE THIS 'LAYZ-OORE' (does finger quotation marks) TO DESTROY THE EARTH...MWU HA HA HA!!!"
  11. I have worked with lexan before (I made a "battery buggy" for science olympaid before...the lexan served as the chassis). It is pretty darned strong, but yes it does bend. Like I said, I THINK the glass floor of the CN Tower is lexan, but it could be...I'm not sure. And if the park DID install a "glass" floor on the Eiffel Tower, I'm sure they would make sure to make the LOWER LEVEL have the glass floor instead of the upper level... But of course, if the park did install it on the upper level, I would have no problem looking down and seeing things that girls wouldn't want me too...lol
  12. I too remember WaterWorks being something of a "cement playground" with slides. Hopefully, the park has taken this into account when they designed Boomerang Bay. The park map doesn't always show an accurate representation of the layout. If you can't judge a book by its cover, why try to assume things about an amusement park by just looking at the map? The only way to really see how the park is set up is to either 1) visit the waterpark and actually walk around in it or 2) get a good bird's eye from the Eiffel Tower
  13. Making a "glass" floor for the Eiffel Tower at the Island would be pretty feasible, as long as it was cared for. The CN Tower's observation deck in Canada has a "glass" floor. I imagine that they use pretty thick, high quality lexan or something of the sort. Every once in a while (I think twice a year or so, this is a wild guess), the glass panels are replaced with new ones to ensure that a worn panel doesn't crack. Like I said, It's feasible and would be cool to have happen.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong and yell at me if I'm being too anal (I'm already in a ****-poor mood), but wouldn't an "expansion" be considered a growth in the park, not an installation? I consider rides to be "installed" and areas to be built...areas being built is how the park EXPANDS...I choose Boomerany Bay just because I'm an super anal retentive freak.
  15. ...a watched pot never boils. I have no ideer where that came from. I imagine that there have been some new zoning laws that have been in effect for a while...near the Dayton Mall, there is a new Waffle House and the sign head (the part with the actual lettering) is the regular size...as in it's the same size as any Waffle House sign you see a hundred feet in the air, HOWEVER...this new Waffle House sign is about 20 FEET off the ground. It looks TERRIBLY ODD. I've also seen gas stations in my local area been removing their taller signs in favor of "ground-planted" signs. Could present a temporary problem for the Island, but I'm sure that because the park is a cash-cow for the city of Mason, they'll try as hard as they can to let the park build something that looks great.
  16. This rumor about a B&M Dive Machine going in at Busch Gardens Tampa does raise my eyebrow. With the way that the online Paramount survey worded it, a B&M Dive Machine would CERTAINLY make sense for the Addams Family Coaster. As people have pointed out for years, stand-up coasters have gone through cycles every so often--Mantis, Chang and another were built in the mid-late 90s and they were all record breakers (I believe). Maybe the B&M Dive Machine is following the same path? As for the innovation thing and having a "new version" of the "old" B&M Dive Machine, I think it's pretty much anyone's guess as to what the coaster company could do. If it were the 1980s, would anyone have thought that 2 "seat" per row stand-up cars would soon be a thing of the past, taking way to new 4 "seat" per row cars? I doubt many people thought that. I have yet to take a good physics course, but common sense would tell me that with the way dive machine trains are designed (only two rows deep and many seats wide), there would be tremendous force going into a loop and coming out of it, unless the inversion looked like an even thinner tear-drop. Could a heartline roll work? Sure! Corkscrew? Maybe. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Island got a B&M Dive Machine with bells and whistles never seen before on the two previous installations. After all, isn't innovation the thing that keeps people coming back to amusement parks each year?
  17. Hmm...sounds interesting. Speaking of those signs, how many of them were replaced? I was looking at the Drop Zone picture in another topic about the ride's seats and noticed that one of the movie banner/signs was for The Core (which was not a bad movie, by the way).
  18. That would be pretty hard to do - you'd have to layer the "track" with something smooth (as Legos aren't that). It would sure look cool, though. I'd like to see someone make a scale-model of Millennium Force...now THAT would be impressive!!! How about a Lego-version of Drop Zone...anyone up for a challenge?
  19. Love the layout...it's pretty spantaculous, but there is still information missing on some of the ride pages, such as the ride specs for Tomb Raider - "COMING SOON!" Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tomb Raider opened for 2002, and it's now 2004.
  20. The hanging plant is still there? I sure don't remember it being there last season...I remember noticing that it was gone.
  21. There are large either hydraulic or pneumatic arms that are pumped up after the "car" gets a fifth of the way up the "track." You can see them, they're big - they come about 6 or 8 feet (I think) up above ground level. My guess is that inlet valves for these things lock as soon as they are up all the way. I think these are also the same "arms" that slow the car to the ground to a stop. Although this all makes sense to me, I could be totally wrong. Can someone else help if I'm out of the loop?

    Movie

I doubt it would be smash hit with movie critics, but then again, Jackass The Movie was pretty much a smash hit with no plot or storyline. It would be cool to park fans like us, but there aren't 50 million people in the United States with as much passion for Paramount Parks as us.
  23. Even though this should probably be in the POLLS section...who cares? I don't... Woodie: The Beast...need I explain? Steel: Flight of Fear...front seat; 0-50 in just a few seconds gives you the biggest rush in the world (behind Top Thrill Dragster). Great design (for the dark, at least), plenty of turns and speed!!! BRILLIANT!
  24. I LOVE Intamin's lap bars...they're amazing. The best part of them is that they're hydraulic, so they don't snap down more along the ride. They're extremely comfortable and allow lots of leg room. As for putting these on Sonny and Flight of Fear, don't count on it...I'll make a safe bet and say that if the Island wanted to do this, they would have to purchase new rolling stock from Intamin, since both coasters have Premier rolling stock. I'd be that if the park did replace the rolling stock with Intamin stock, although expensive, it would make the rides more enjoyable than they already are. Flight of Fear probably wouldn't gain much from new lap bars except for more freedom within the cars. Sonny would REALLY gain by leaps and bounds if Intamin made the park some rolling stock... Either way...don't count on this happening. I think the Island has more of a chance of getting the world's longest and tallest coaster than getting new stock for Son of Beast and Flight of Fear, or at least replacing the restraints, for that matter.
