    2005 Poll

Right here. 500 Club, baby...boo yah...
  2. Having employees going out and talking with the guests stuck on a ride to keep them calm and cool is something I've seen our home park do. If all of the employees in a park act the same, i.e. if they don't talk to the guests and just hand them an exit pass, maybe...just MAYBE they're being instructed to do so. I have a customer service job, and believe me, having customers ****ed at you is one thing you try to avoid. I seriously doubt that Cedar Point employees are being "non sociable assholes" and "deaf mute" on their own choice. If that is how ALL of the employees are, I'll bet my bottom dollar that that is what upper-level management is telling them to do. Think about it. I have never been to a park where the employees treat the guests better than King's Island. The employees actually try to hold short conversations with you and actually act like they care about you. THAT is what makes PKI a great park and gives guests a great experience.
  3. Premier had to custom design the trains for the ride. If the rolling stock was the classic PTC, I think they would literally shake apart. The Premier trains are pretty much built with steel coaster forces in mind. Shifting? What wouldn't you expect from a wooden roller coaster that goes 78 miles an hour? By the way, for those who don't know, Son of Beast is the 10th fastest coaster in the world. That is no typo.
  4. Son of Beast is the most turbulent roller coaster I've ever been on. It's usually one of the last coasters of the day for me, because if I do it early, I'm in pain for the rest of the day. It's a great ride to do once a day, while The Beast is one of those I could do for an hour straight. It's one of those "Dude, I rode the world's tallest, fastest, only looping and second longest wooden coaster."

    2005 Poll

What other parks have tried to build a looping wooden coaster? I've never really heard of a park "trying" to build a roller coaster; either they build one, or they don't. I know of one coaster, built by Intamin back in the 1980s that was never finished. The track is complete, but the coaster still today lacks an electrical system. Son of Beast wasn't inexpensive, either. Not very many parks have as much money to "play around with" as King's Island does. As for whether of not King's Island is "still in the coaster race" or not, we'll just have to see. In my book, the park is still in it. Innovation is a race that PKI has been winning since the 1970s.
  6. I just want to know why everyone thinks that all coasters and flats should have 100% uptime. What the hell? This sounds tacky, but if I got stuck on a ride at King's Island or at any amusement park and wasn't injured, I'd go home and tell all my friends how I got stuck on such and such. Some of you get ****ed, I would get excited!!
  7. Ah ha ha ha...yeah that's really funny. You people are sickening. If it was you, you sure as HELL would not be laughing. If something like that happened at King's Island and it was one of our people on these boards, NONE of you sick ****s would be laughing; NONE.

    2005 Poll

I wish I could revote - I'd bid for "no coaster." It's not going to happen. Until it does, all I can do is play on NoLimits and pencil topographical designs of what the Island's coaster would look like if I was in charge of ride development...
  9. A few of my non-coaster-freak friends informed me when we were at the park on Wednesday that "two people died on Top Thrill Dragster." I found this VERY difficult to believe. At least I know what really happened; thanks guys!
  10. I'm not too sure if I think this is funny.

B-E-A-Utiful day at the park. Effeciency was as high as I've ever seen it before. Kudos to all the ride ops! At SDATHM, a ride op asked us how our day had been going, and I told him, "Couldn't be better; you people do a great job." He was pleased...but then again, so was I. COMMEND YOUR RIDE OPS, GOD BLESSIT!!! Did scooters, and I snapped twice...I was so stoked. It was awesome. My girlfriend freaked out and grabbed the handle after that and I lacked the mental and physical strength to take back control. Son of Beast seemed a little smoother in the bowl. I did my pull-as-hard-as-you-can-on-the-front-bar-during-the-ride manuever, and got a VERY pleasant ride out of the behemoth. recaR was GREAT...smoother than I've ever experienced (except for Shannon (my lady)...she was having...er...chest issues with the ride). Saw maybe 15 construction workers constructing what appeared to be a 20 foot tall, maybe 50 foot long housing apparatus between Racer and the gaming buildings next to the swings. I was VERY curious as to what this was. It appears to be large enough that the only way to remove this small structure from its place was to use a crane - it would be VERY difficult to move it through the wooden gate/fence near the walk-under for Flight of Fear. Can anyone shed some light on this?
  12. Well, I must say one thing; at the park today, I took note of how effecient the ride ops were. Delirium probably has the most effecient crew in the entire park - even my MOM commented on it, and she said she hated the ride! Flight of Fear and Beast were running very quickly today, also. Scooters were slow as HELL, but then again, it's not your newer flat with locking restraints that are a quick check, and it can become slow, especially when you've only got two people working a ride. Oh man....on an off note, I snapped twice today!! My girlfriend was freaking out and after a while, grabbed the handle and held it stiff...my fun was over...
  13. I don't even pay attention to lists such as these; they're not as scientific as walking around with a clipboard and actually asking the people the questions. A lot of the stuff on TV is bull****, too. "Enthusiasts" take us for on ride trips, and they go "and here's that HUUUUGE loop!!" and it's a corkscrew. The only reason I watch coaster shows on the Travel and Discovery channels is for the rides themselves. Screw the commentaries and interviews. Some people appear brainless. It's sad too, cause people like myself take offense to these lists. Would that make me an Paramount's King's Island Enthusiaist?
  14. Car companies build cars so they are not only functional, but also enjoyable...am I right? Let's say you decide to not use your brain while operating your enjoyable car, and you decide to drive down to King's Island on I-71 with your car hood up. Not a good plan. You have to use your brain, especially at an amusement park. You wouldn't just hop the fence to get a little closer to the bottom of Son of Beast's 218 foot hill, now would you? I would sure as hell enjoy getting an up-close-and-personal visit with the wooden behemoth, but I can't, because the people who come to King's Island without using their brain are the ones who would try to hop onto the track just before a train breezed by at 78 miles an hour. There are many people who do bring their brain to the amusement park, but for those who don't, that's what all that fencing around rides is for.
  15. Not to say that the new sign looks like sh*t, but I hope when it's finished, it looks better in real life. (I'm sure it will) Those electric red columns won't be showing in the finished product...or will they?
  16. I went to the Point last year, and they do run things very smoothly and quickly there. And no, they don't just tap on the restraints. They go through the proper restraint pull to make sure you're not going to fly out of your car mid-trip.
  17. Yes, Vortex restraints are extremely comfortable for me (6' 2") and they are extremely reliable. If you know when you're going to get jostled around, brace for it; or don't ride it at all. This kinda reminds me of the thing that happened several years ago when an old hag put hot McDonald's coffee in her lap then SPILLED it and sued the food giant. For God's sake, lady!!! Think ahead! If you have hot coffee, put it some place where you CAN'T get burned by it. If you're going to ride a coaster that can injure you, ride it a way that you CAN'T get hurt. But hey, at least nobody has sued the park for something like this...or have they?
  18. Famous? How in the world are they famous, you can get them anywhere! Pshh...they're famous in my book. I personally don't think I've had a better funnel cake. (Like the park uses some "special mix"...)

    7/3/04

Went down to the park with my friends yesterday for Nights of Fire. A few things I noticed: Flight of Fear was totally dark. The colored "effect" lights that I usually notice on were apparently off. Adventure Express received some new effect lighting at the end, which I appreciated. Smooth ride, still as snappy as always. Recar was running quite smoothly. Beast's line was longer than normal, and I was kind of excited to see what the 25th anniversary gifts were. As people have said before, it's difficult to hear the audio on the way up the lift hill. I was impressed with the signs, I thought they added quite the rustic touch. Noticed the station lighting - thought it was pretty creative. I look forward to experiencing that coaster at night. Great documentary! Fireworks were ho-hum. I sure as hell enjoyed it when they shot them off from the sides of the Eiffel Tower. Note to the park - find a way to prevent burning ashes from falling from the tower onto International Street...I didn't find this very safe. Man were there a lot of people there. Music added a pleasant touch to the experience. Traffic was one thing and one thing only - HELL. Spent an hour and three minutes sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. Note to self - next year, watch fireworks FROM parking lot.
  20. If the park did take out the Antique Cars to install an indoor ride, a concrete foundation would have to be poured, and they would probably have to make a foundation that would be larger than the current surface area of the concrete at the Antique Cars. Does this make sense? Just ADDING to the concrete foundation would be pretty much suicide, since you have to first excavate the ground, dig a few feet down, lay gravel and such, and then pour the mix and set to dry. It would probably be cheaper and safer if the just took out all the old concrete and replaced it with new stuff to build a new ride. As for the next coaster, I wouldn't mind seeing something go over the Rivertown pond (maybe a cobra element or batwing near The Beast's exit?). It would look pretty schanzzy to me.
  21. 20-25 mins through the backroads from Centerville.

    Best Flat

Mine went to Delirium, just for the sheer feeling during the ride. Shake, Rattle and Roll has to be my favorite two-person ride - it's just a ton of good fun! P.S. Is Drop Zone really a flat? It seems pretty tall to me...
  23. Why has nobody mentioned King's Island's famous funnel cakes? No trip to the Island is complete without a funnel cake!!
  24. Not sure if anyone already knew this, but the webcam on top of the Eiffel Tower is back online and sending us BEAUTIFUL pictures of the park. Enjoy! View the webcam here.
