  1. Yeah, he's been gone for several years. I've heard his job prevents him from being able to post here (that's what someone said here a few years ago and I'm pretty sure I heard someone say that at an event one time as well). I did meet him in person on closing day at KI one time years ago though.

  2. I'm more interested to see how things go for Balloon Glow this year. I've attended that event numerous times over the years, and it's always one of Coney's busiest days. The rides being gone will theoretically give them more room for people to place chairs, blankets, etc. for the big fireworks show at the end of the night, but at the same time, the rides always drew big crowds during the event and gave people something to do besides the pool.

  3. I don't think this has anything to do with the accident, especially since other Slingshot rides at other CF parks are still operating. During the Banshee walk-back at CoasterStock last weekend, I overheard someone saying that Kings Island was the only park that leased their Slingshot and that the ride ops actually worked for Funtime rather than KI directly. If that is indeed the case, I'd suspect that has a lot to do with the ride's sudden unannounced removal - it would lead me to believe that the lease contract was up for renewal (which, given that the ride opened 20 years ago, would make sense) or that someone wanted to re-negotiate the terms and the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. The "future expansion" answer is just KI giving an answer to get the public to stop asking why it was removed, without actually giving the real reason for it.

  4. https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/federal-court-dismisses-land-of-illusion-lawsuit-against-butler-county-and-others

A federal judge has closed the door on a $190 million expansion at the Land of Illusion attraction in Madison Twp., ending the lawsuit filed against Butler County and dismissed claims officials showed ill-will against the owner.

The Butler County commissioners heard the zoning case in late 2020 and denied rezoning 206 acres across eight parcels off Thomas Road to a Business Planned Unit Development from the current agriculture, residential and general business classifications. Owner Brett Oakley wanted to make Land of Illusion a year-round facility with additional family activities, camping sites and a hotel.

  5. This past Saturday there were at least two incidents in Festhaus. After the first one was broken up, a Mason officer and Warren County deputy hauled someone out in handcuffs after security told him to leave and he refused. This resulted in a loud chorus of boos and even a few middle fingers being thrown in the direction of the officers involved as if they'd done something wrong. As we were about to walk out of Festhaus, another incident took place in almost the exact same area (near the restrooms) - suddenly a large group of people goes running towards the restrooms and all you hear is "oooooo!", followed shortly by several security personnel also heading in that direction.  At that point they were telling people in Festhaus to either find a seat or leave, and reportedly weren't letting anyone else in either.

  6. Interesting to see that it's been removed completely. I just assumed the ball was missing because it was being repainted. Hopefully they'll put some good flats in that area, especially with all the space available on the other side of AE where part of Skylab used to be

Honestly, if you choose to live so close to an amusement park you should know what you are getting yourself into. That's what I don't understand about the people who complain. I would love to live that close, I wouldn't mind the noise at all!

I believe the ones complaining are the residents of Kings Mills who were there before KI. Given that KI has been around for 50 years now though I can't imagine there are too many people still around who were there before the park opened.

Also, I wouldn't be too surprised if the sound carries that far. I remember when I worked at the park in 2005, I could hear Mercy Me performing at Spirit Song from Planet Snoopy. Granted I was also working the helicopter ride at the time and it was late so things were a bit quieter but it was still cool to be able to hear it that far away.

  8. I read on Facebook that there was no actual collision and that ride ops stopped the ride as soon as they realized what was happening. I have no idea if that statement was made by a ride op (in which case they could very well get fired for saying that) or someone who just happened to witness the incident.

  9. I'm sure the park will have Orion back to multi-train ops as soon as they can. The fact that this happened early in the season is a good thing - the park is closed to the public the next 4 days so that gives them time to get the necessary people in to review everything and make any necessary adjustments/repairs.

  10. I still haven't decided if I'm going at this point. In the past I've done both CoasterStock and Holiwood Nights, but things were a bit different then (different employer and such). I've got plenty of time off I could use but I don't know how understanding my current employer would be about me taking two Fridays off in 3 weeks - even though Friday isn't typically one of our busier days.
