  1. Having worked at Cedar Point, I can vouch from experience that safety is number 1, across the whole chain. There were many things in place to ensure ride safety, some that were picked up with the acquisition of the former Paramount parks, and some made there way from the old CF parks to the new... Besides it wouldn't make sense for them to be lax on safety from a business perspective, who wants to go to a dangerous park?
  2. Actually if it isn't a restraint issue, which it very well could be if it's the back car (kinda weird to close the last car for capacity), it is faster sometimes to rope off several seats depending how busy it is. If I'm not running full trains every train, there are empty seats I have to close down and check. If I keep the same seats empty every train and condense the riders, i can breeze through the empty ones on my way to the full ones. On my ride at Cedar Point we always closed the middle cars though, kinda odd for it to be the back, since that's where people tend to want to go.
  3. Oh birthdays...I had so many birthdays this season on my ride at Cedar Point, that I'm pretty sure by this point I'm about 97 years old...
  4. I hope so, but I don't...that spot is such an awkward dead end. It needs something, but I'm not sure a new ride is the answer. I see a large bottleneck developing there if it is indeed the spot, with only one way in and out.
  5. Why have I never thought to ride it at night? This is brilliant! As far as I can remember, of all my park visits, I've only spent any time in AZ at night once, my dad and i rode DT as the fireworks were going off, which provides a very interesting angle. I hope I make it back again this summer to try this out.
  6. ^This is true...But coasters do in fact age, so if you ride it another ten years from now it will more than likely be still different...However, it shouldn't become unride-able in ten years...
  7. With a loop!...For now at least...no guarentees in the future.
  8. I hate to bring the war here but........They could build all kinds of things from that big pile of lumber in Action Zone...
  9. It's not necessarily apples and oranges...It's more like..."Granny Smith Apples to Golden Delicious..." Whatever they do with SOB is their decision. Whatever floats their boat, and keeps the money rolling in. Either way, I just hope it's done right, I think the time is past for throwing things at it and hoping it sticks. I believe this is the last ditch effort, either whatever they're doing now works, or it's gone. We'll see. I think it still has potential...It just needs that extra push.
  10. That makes sense, good point. And as for the housing, I should've said something along those lines as well. I just find it interesting that CP can draw staffing from all over the world. I highly doubt that would work in KI's environment, even if they did have to ship in their staff from elsewhere.
  11. I think that could be true, but only if you're from the general area, or just an overacheiver when planning vacations...I had no clue about that stuff til I got there... I only went for the park.
  12. Yes, but, good rides does not a park make. They are a large contributing factor obviously, but you can't say Park X has Ride Y so it destroys park Q because it only has ride M. A park can have several mediocre rides and still offer the better experience over a park with several good rides...
  13. I would agree with the enthusiasts believing people will travel...However take a lap around KI, and then take a lap around CP, and listen to the people. While yes a vast majority will be from that 200 mile radius, I believe there are significantly more "foreign" visitors to CP. Be it from The Bronx or Greece. I even work with people from all over the world up there, granted KI doesn't have the housing facilities CP does, but that still says something I think.
  14. Cedar Point is a destination, whereas Kings Island is more of a quick trip. Having worked at CP, and visited KI more times than I care to count, I can say more people come from more places to CP. It's not just Thrill Seekers, or just families, it's everyone from everywhere. When you walk around KI, you see a large mix as well but I would say a vast majority come from the immediate area. Immediate being southern OH, central and southern IN, and northern KY.
  15. My only looping ride was in the backseat, because the people I was with wouldn't take my word that the back was really bad...Turned out not to be bad at all, in my opinion, and I loved it. Good thing too, because next season it was gone.
  16. Now that I've seen this, I'm probably the only person on here that will say "eh.." Granted I can't see the whole thing, but to me it just looks like a muddy mess. I kinda prefer the green grass under the turnaround. Although now I realize why the footers/footings (oh boy, here we go ) are kinda funky and tall
  17. Ah, thanks, I was gone all summer working at Cedar Point, and didn't keep up with any of it like normal. Either way...it's still kinda silly.
  18. Was Firehawk repainted? Or did this happen ages ago and I just missed it? It was nice it wasn't red grey and green. Although if this is the case it's kinda depressing that a ride that's only been there 2 seasons needed/got painted before the one that's been rusting for 10 years.
  19. I wouldn't mind an Oktoberfest clean-up, it could use some help. I could live with Coney for awhile if that were the alternative...I bet AZ gets its TLC when a SOB decision is made. Wow, I used three acronyms in one sentence.
  20. As I watched them dealing with the valleyed Invertigo yesterday, some guy walked up beside me and said "The engine blew in the train, when you run that much horsepower that hard for that long, things happen." I also made the mistake of wearing my CP employee jacket...I was a target all day. "Oh you work here?!" "No, I work at Cedar Point, I'm just visiting..." "Oh, I went there once, that Magnum Force is so cool, the way it drops you underneath itself. And it's awesome being in the middle of the ocean!" (K, so I paraphrased two encounters into one fictional exchange, but I did hear both of those yesterday.)
  21. When I worked at Cedar Point last summer, I never heard it mentioned.
  22. Why am I not surprised in the least? I still want to see it fly, it's a good idea, if someone would just do it right.
  23. Woooo my question got answered...kinda...not that it was really an answerable question to start with. But it looks like I'm on the right track to being a full time park employee,
  24. I was there a month ago, parked right next to where Demon Drop was...It was really weird haha, I'd post the pic, but people have been known to get in trouble for such things.
  25. Sigh...There's something oddly depressing about that. I think it's the gray skies and dead trees. Soon though...
