  1. Back to Labor Day weekend......Remember up until last year there has been the 3 day cheerleading event at the park that always drove attendance way up. I don't remember how last years crowd was, but without the cheerleading, I would assume at least Action Zone was a less crowded place!

  2. I am in need of a good picture of the torches outside of TRTR (since I don't think they have worked since it has been Crypt) actually working. I am really look for a good dusk/night picture. If anyone has one if they could post it or PM me with it I would appreciate it. It is for a client that is looking for something similar.

  3. That building is an eyesore, and has been under the "destroy" order many times, however something always seems to save it. The last time I heard they were talking about using it as a small maze for haunt, but then they bought the new big building.

  4. Amazing that no one has mentioned what they did to the ride platform. They have reduced it from 3 rows to 2, which is only going to help with the performance of the ride. Past that I love the new program. It is much better and faster than what we had before.

  5. And there could be several reasons for that. It could be that there was some sort of structural issue (ie water damage, or rot) that was cost prohibitive to keep that pre-facade set of columns on KI`s theater.

DING!DING!DING! We have a winner! That facade was in terrible shape. The carpenters spent hours each year before the park opened trying to fix bad spots and paint the peeling paint again!

  6. I think, like most companies, that they will begin to look at GREEN options, with new additions, LED lighting, signs, etc. However, I wouldn't expect a giant overhaul of the entire park. It is still very costly to do these changes. And yes, they save money in the long run, but it is still a big original expense!

  7. 60 degree angles? The walls sure seemed pretty square and at 90 degree angles the last time I installed them. Huh. Know what you are talking about before you tell things that aren't true.

I'm gonna have to question the logic there. Seems like you're contradicting yourself? I'm not saying everything Hauntguy said is right, because there were some pretty bad things said. But I will say that I'll trust the knowledge of someone who assembled one of the haunts over someone who walked through one of the one time. Not to mention the horrible lighting in the haunts.

Can you clarify this? I am having a hard time telling who you are asking about. I am the one who installed the Haunts at the park.....not Hauntguy.

  8. HFE Acquires Controlling Interest in Newport Aquarium

Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation (HFE) today confirmed the company has joined the management and ownership of sister aquariums operated by Steiner + Associates -- Newport Aquarium in Newport, Kentucky, across the river from downtown Cincinnati, and Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey, across the river from downtown Philadelphia.

“For nearly half a century, HFE has successfully operated theme parks and attractions throughout the U.S. Given the broad appeal of animals, and our desire to create experiences that can be shared by the entire family, these aquariums are a nice fit for Herschend,” said Joel Manby, chief executive officer, HFE. “We will operate business as usual, with a focus on making the operating transition as smooth and transparent as possible for the Aquariums’ guests and employees.”

HFE will assume day-to-day aquarium operations including overseeing nearly 300 full-time and part-time employees. Dudley Taft, one of the founding partners of the Newport Aquarium, will continue as a minority investor there, while Steiner + Associates will continue as a minority investor in Adventure Aquarium.

Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation (HFE) owns, operates or partners in 18 properties in seven states. Properties include Branson, Missouri’s Silver Dollar City theme park, Showboat Branson Belle lake attraction, White Water water park, Talking Rocks Cavern, The Wilderness at Silver Dollar City campground and Celebration City theme park. HFE is an operating partner with Dolly Parton in the Dollywood Company, which owns the Dollywood theme park and Dollywood’s Splash Country water park, both in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The Dollywood Company is also the largest shareholder in the Dixie Stampede dinner attractions located in Branson, Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach and Orlando. In Georgia, HFE operates Atlanta’s Stone Mountain Park in conjunction with the State of Georgia, and owns Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta. HFE owns Ride The Ducks amphibious tours in Branson, Baltimore and Philadelphia, and Ride The Ducks is also an attraction at Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta. Since the company was founded in the early 1960s, the many properties have been internationally awarded numerous times for excellence in theme, presentation and operations, including the worldwide Applause Award for excellence and the THEA Award (Themed Entertainment Association).

Newport Aquarium showcases thousands of animals from around the world in a million gallons of water. This state-of-the-art facility was named the No. 1 aquarium in the Midwest in the Zagat Survey’s U.S. Family Travel Guide in 2004 and the Best Rainy Day Outing in 2006 in Cincinnati Family Magazine. Like its sister aquarium, Adventure Aquarium, on the Camden Waterfront, Camden, NJ, Newport Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation. The Aquarium is open to the public 365 days a year and is located only two minutes from downtown Cincinnati at Newport on the Levee. 9. Wow, that was a good read. My favorite line:

hey do keep their clothes on. Hey, this is a family park after all.

    :D

I had a similar experience with the "bored" actors in the cemetery on media night. At one point there was no one telling me where to go or any theming directing me that I led my group to the back end of the garden area behind the skyline and an actor from the former RL stine house showed me where to go.

Did curse of the crypt really have live snakes in a glass case you had to climb over? I would not have enjoyed that.

Curse of the Crypt never had snakes to climb over. One year it was hissing cockroaches and the second year it was rats.

  10. And no thanks whatsoever from upper management. Just a "we think you could be doing better" mindset.

Well that is unfortunately how the real world works.

Some employers may give incentives for going above and beyond the call of duty, while others expect you to do your job to the best of your ability because that is what you are paid for.

Sometimes just a simple "Thank you" is all you need.

That's it! Treating someone like they are important to the success of your company.

  11. So if you admit that they ARE going through "crap" why is it whining to point it out? Isn't that how things get changed?

With any minimum wage paying job or seasonal job there is a huge amount of pride that needs to be swallowed. That is why it is minimum wage. Everyone has been there at one time. And if you can deal with it on a day-in, day-out basis that says alot about your personality. Sure it $ucks, but you have to do what you have to do to make ends meet and get a little change in your pocket.

All whining on a message board shows is that some did not have the courage to find out why CF makes the decisions that they have, or it would have been mentioned.

Employers despise whiners. Instead of whining about it on the internet, bring up your concerns to your boss face to face behind closed doors. Let them understand your point of view, and you can also understand theirs. Chances are, you both will come to a happy medium. And if not, at least you had the testicular fortitude to bring it up face to face. That is how things get changed.

First off - I didn't start this to whine. I was asking what other associates view on the current park are. That's it. I wasn't some joe flipping burgers, or working a game, which are all necessary jobs at the park. I was someone who made a good deal of decisions that affected each and every one of you that have visited the park. There is a reason that I am not going too in-depth. I still respect and love the job I had at the park. If you don't think I was man enough to sit down with my boss and try to fix some of the problems then you don't understand why I went back this season and gave it another shot. We tried over and over to fix the problems....he understood why I was upset and agreed that I deserved better. It is all above his head. I am now done with this. I asked a honest question to people and I am now getting bashed about being some whinning kid that just wants more money. It is a lot more than that. I am 33 years old and I just want some darn respect. If that is too much for someone to ask then I guess I am that whinning kid.

  12. Well, they are running business. What do you expect? They aren't UNICEF.

Really? You don't say....I don't think that was really necessary. I am asking for the opinions of the associates. And I wonder how you would feel if after 11 years someone looked at you and said that you weren't worth the $$ they were paying you.

  13. Well you are right about the full timers....60+ hour mandatory weeks May-November; Vacation only certain months of the year. You know I loved my job....that's why I was there 12 season, but not enough to be treated like crap. At least under the Paramount days, I received Bonus, praise, felt like I was part of the team, oh and praise!
