  1. Hi KI Fans, Well its been quite a long time since I last posted here and that's because I have not visited KI in that time. The boy and I last visited during the Halloween season of 2009. But yesterday we closed out the summer season with an out of the ordinary Monday trip. I figured that visitors would be less than on a summer weekend... and this seemed to be the case, but not by much. The boy, now 10, is tall enough to meet the most stringent heighth requirements, so he can now ride anything in the park... and ride we did! Here is the list of NEW to us (meaning first-ever ride) but OLD (meaning at least dating from the 2010 season) rides we enjoyed together: Firehawk Flight of Fear Invertigo-started to "grey" out Diamondback While I could have experienced these rides at any time, it was important to me to wait for the boy to get old enough so that we could ride them together... some Dads choose say a ballgame for this bonding, but I went with amusement park rides instead. We also enjoyed the NEW/NEW Windseaker which provided much more thrill than I had given it credit prior to riding it, must have been the soaring height. We did not get to ride these favorites before a storm deluge moved in over the park at about 8:30: Delirum Drop Tower Flight Deck and while NOT a favorite I usually try to ride SOB for completness, but I didn't see it run all day anyway. BTW I bought the boy a T shirt, the one that lists all the coasters with a check-box on the back. Strangely it does not list SOB. Is this ride still in opereation? Vking Fury and a number of others. We caught a show, Snoopy Rocks or whatever at theater, and it was entertaining. Then we enjoyed pizza & macaroni at the Festhaus. At 46 the inner ear is beginning to betray me. I really like steel coasters and the the twists, turns, inversions etc that they offer. But many left me sweaty weak and a bit green. (The boy was fine.) However, Diamondback delivers all the thrill with none of the side effect except shear delight. I can't stress how utterly satisfying the ride was for both the boy and me. Absolute speed, a smooth ride, soaring height, and great seats... what more can one ask for? complete list in order: 1. Boo Blasters on Boo Hill 2. The Beast 3. The Vortex 4. Windseaker 5. Firehawk 6. Flight of Fear 7. Adventure Express 8. Congo Falls 9. Invertigo 10. Diamondback 11. White Water Canyon 12. Back Lot Stunt Coaster 13. The Racer Looking forward to the next visit...
  2. I have no status

  3. I agree. HW offered way more than I expected... double shock power!
  4. Woo Whoooo I was part of the 3%! P Plunge is a refreshing ride. Perhaps its best aspect is the lift. Raven, Legend & esp Voyage... all great coasters!
  5. could be the screamin demon, we rode that back to back one night forever but probably The Racer followed closely by The Beast
  6. hey everybody! TGIF The boy turns 9 in 4 days and we had planned on celebrating with a Saturday trip to KI/HH. This would be our first trip to KI all season. I had hoped for good weather and Saturday looks promising (better than today anyway). We plan to spend the day on the thrill rides then, once the fog rolls out, check out some haunts. If the haunts prove to intense for him... well we can just leave (having already enjoyed the day on rides). He seems brave at present. We shall see... bwaaahahahaaaa

    Why not?

Under "Polls" we see a lot of "favorites, firsts and how longs" etc. as these are kinda staples for this topic. But what about the "Thrill Rides" (double black diamonds) one is qualified to ride (by height) but have not yet done so. Tell what you have not yet ridden and why not. (wow) Here is my longer than expceted list. My excuse (among others) is that while I have been tempted to ride alone, I have decided to wait for the boy to get tall enough so that we can experience the first ride together first-hand. Kinda sappy I know but opportunity knocks once. I should also point out that several of these rides were constructed during a long hiatus from KI visitation during the 90's. Delerium- @ 52" we should be good to go this season, just hope its not a "blow chunks" ride for me Diamondback- brand new Crypt-seems like it is broken down 9/10 anyway Firehawk-novel Flight of Fear-most anticipated Invertigo-again highly anticipated-i like foot danglers We look forward to all... eventually
  8. Six Flags in TX... I think the coaster was named "White Lightning". It was similar to the Screamin Demon with a drop weight for propulsion. Strangely enough, my son's first was a similar ride at Ky Kingdom... the green one. Thrills all.
  9. other KIC should lobby KI management for reduced admission. Viewed from another perspective, KI gets a great amount of free, enthusiastic marketing from this site. To my knowledge KIC recieves no compensation from KI... or do they? Hmmm....
  10. I think somebody already likened it to skiing. Its just a matter of warm attire... that and ride(s) functioning properly in cold conditions.
  11. I'm with you polisman, the rides, especially the coasters, seem much more thirilling after dark!
  12. Welcome. What a great TR. Seems like you and your boy had a great day together. Cherish these years. While I am glad to see my boy be able to ride the "big stuff" I almost hate to see him graduate beyond the "kiddie stuff" for it can mean only one thing, that he is growing up. (Could it be the "empty kiddie ride" syndrome?) TG for digital cameras. Plenty of pictures we got!
  13. I was happy with the props and displays scattered throughout the park although some appeared worn. The same displays were much more convincing with effect lighting and fog after dark. I was very much impressed with the sheer volume of fog, truely was one of the better effects. Quite disappointed with the apparent lack of "free roaming" haunts, I expected many more. Can't comment on the haunted attractions as we did not witness these first hand. If I had to go again... I would. We always have a good time at KI.
  14. yes, the trip was Sat 10/11/08. Dunno how to edit the title.
  15. The boy wanted to go to KI for his 8th birthday this year (rather than have yet another a pizza party{yawn}). As parents, were happy to oblige since we all wanted to go again before the season ended and also the check out HH and Howl-O-Fest. He also wanted to invite one friend and we thought this was a good idea too. His little buddy had NEVER been to KI! (How can this be?) Also, this trip was a change from our normal routine whereas we wanted to take more a leisurely pace throughout the park and enjoy the props and some attractions we typically skip or ignore. Baylen is somewhat fearless for his age, having ridden everything at KI his height will permit. His companions’ experience until this day had been to ride WDW’s Space Mountain; a great ride with fantastic theme, but not exactly the same “thrill” available at KI. (IMHO) Baylen rode the following either with his invited friend or good ole Dad, or both: Avatar: -first ride of the day where we learned that B’s buddy was not quite as brave as claimed Phantom Flyers-Baylen didn’t want to do this but his friend did. (Baylen feigned sleep throughout the duration. We explained that part of being a good friend is to make compromises so that ALL have a good time.) RRReptar- a legitimate coaster for the newbie to experience Beast – w/Dad Backlot Stunt Coaster-2X w/all, this is a great ride. SR&R –w/Dad Vortex- w/Dad (Baylens’ favorite) Zephyr- the newbies favorite Red Racer-blue not operating, another classic for the noob AE-short line Grand Carousel-been a long time for that one We also took time to watch a show at the Festhaus. Everybody, especially the boys, enjoyed the “monster themed” song and dance number (oh that 80's music). We spent some time shopping on International Street where Baylens friend bought him a souviner T for his B-day. Sometime about the middle of the day we headed over to the picnic area, not only for BBQ lunch (the bees don’t sting, seriously) but also to check out Howl-O-Fest. This was fun for the boys whom made masks, danced, went through the hay bale maze and also stopped for candy. We probably spent two hours of the day over there and it was a great feature. As for Halloween Haunt we chose to avoid these attractions because, at 8 years old, the boys are just too young for that experience. The fog started rolling in at about 6:30 pm and it was thick (and I mean thick) and made for a creepy effect when combined with the other seasonal props and lighting. Sadly the boys spotted only two free roaming haunts whereas we expected much more, so we were disappointed in that regard. Perhaps the haunts are more conspicuous later in the night? Ya know, I always try to note "out of the ordinary" folks while at KI. On this trip I witnessed two elderly women boarding The Racer as I was disembarking. They had to be 70(+) years old. You don't see that every day. You go girls! Stuff we usually do but didn’t this trip: Drop Tower (personal favorite) the RR-seems like this would be a great opportunity for haunts & a haunted theme (removed from direct interaction) SOB Fairly Odd Coaster-a great break-em-in SB&HC- a staple WTRA – the elephant was “squirtless” no fries from Potato Works (darn!) We normally ride the following but were not able to because they were not operating: Flight Deck-what’s up with that? Congo Falls-already in dry dock for winter Viking Fury-again, what’s up with that? Whitewater Canyon-here is another opportunity for an indirect haunt (in the woods). SP Bikini Bottom Bash-dry as the Sahara Glad to see Diamondback under construction. It’s much more impressive firsthand. We look forward to this new attraction in addition to thrills from these others: the Crypt Delerium Firehawk Flight of Fear Invertigo While some of these rides have been around for years, they nevertheless will be firsts for us (when height permits). We exited the park sometime after 8:00. I think we made a new fan in addition to warm & fuzzy memories. No pictures, the camera is broken.
  16. Thus far, the boy has been brave enough to ride every attraction where not restricted because of height, with exception for The Vortex. He was able to ride this coaster during the 07 season but just didn't have the ka ho nays to do so. I had predicted that his oppinion would change (by 180 degrees) if only he rode it once. Well... he did this summer. Of course, y'all know its crazy inversions! I was watching him carefully while climbing the principal hill... kinda sheepish. He was practicaly in tears at the apex of loop 1, but by the same point in loop 2 he was all smiles and laughing as fear had turned to fun (well with a little fear anyway). Then truely, The Vortex had him in its grip. Now one of his faves, and mine too.
  17. Thanks for the quick response. We plan to be in the park this Saturday 10/11/08. Looking forward to thrills and chills.
  18. Thanks for the photos. Here's a Q. Does purchase of tickets into Howl-O-Fest permit entry into HH and vice-versa? Thanks
