  1. Remember, to keep political oriented comments off of these boards. Any posts that stray into that subject area will be deleted as they violate the terms of service.

President Obama will be speaking around 1:15. You MUST have a ticket to attend. If you do not have a ticket, you must get one from a local union that is part of the AFL-CIO. Chances are they may have already distributed all the tickets already. If you are planning on coming down to Coney that day, keep in mind that the AFL-CIO picnic is going on, so expect some lines at the rides and a very busy Sunlite Pool.

This is not the first time that a political star has appeared at Coney. President Clinton visited Coney on Labor Day, 1992 on the campaign trail before he was elected president later that year. This is, however, the first time that a sitting president will visit Coney Island. Regardless of your political orientation, it is still cool that he is visiting Coney Island. "Coney has it!"

And yes, I will be working that day!

Great Publicity for Coney. I'd bet that his daughters would have a great time at the park but I imagine the security would make that prohibitive.

  2. that photo of the sign looks sweet.

and my bad my memorie is patchy like that.

Yeah, I used to love looking at that sign back in the day. I actually kinda miss it. With respect to your memory, don't worry about it.

Tom, who remembers things from 10 years ago vividly, but can't remember what he did 10 minutes ago. ;)

Wooferbear ... Who remembers things vividly from 30 years ago but can't remember what he did 3 minutes ago. <G>

  3. Uhhh, because it was a horrible waste of money for the park. It continues to be a money pit.

uhh, so because you don't enjoy Son of Beast, it was a waste of money? hmm... and besides top thrill dragster can be considered a "money pit" too.

No I consider it a money pit because IT IS A MONEY PIT.

Certainly you understand the huge amounts of money that have been sunk into this ride. Honestly, many other rides have been removed (around the world) for costing far less.

  4. Perfectly Said?

    Why to people complain?

Uhhh, because it was a horrible waste of money for the park. It continues to be a money pit. One can only imagine how much was paid out to settle the injury claims on the coaster, to say the least.

And by the way, is it really not right to complain when the topic at had is: "Is Son of Beast Your Favorite Coaster?, Is it one of your favorites, or least favorites"

  5. This is devastating news for Disney fans. I prey for the cast member and the family of relatives and co-workers. So sad just sad.

WofferBearATL - it's been a long time since I have seen you post and it is good to see your OK and hope you will join us more in conversation.

Yup, will do better. Right around my B Day work got crazy. Then my ex/best friend was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Sooo, my attentions have been directed away from on line activities. Things are quieting down now so should be easier.

  6. In Paramount days, each beer location had its own license and you could not take beer beyond the patio of each establishment. Cedar Fair got that all changed. Yes, KI has beer. It always has, except right after the Black Sunday incidents. Not selling beer greatly hurt park profits, and the decision not to was reversed.

Not selling beer has a huge effect on park profits. The year that KI discontinued beer was the first year that food service supervisors did not get their year end bonuses.

  7. Until...you hit....the bottom.

Imagine straddling a bicycle seat, not unlike riding Chang, Mantis or King Cobra. You rise up, tilt forward, fall quickly, and then stop abruptly. The women mostly giggle in giddy delight. The men mostly go...oh...my.....uh....goodness!

Never had a problem with it. It's actually my favorite drop ride. The part where ya tilt forward is actually the best.

I believe most horror stories of Six Flags arise from mid-season visits with crowds and heat. I've been to Magic Mountain twice...03 and 05. Both times I visited the park for two consecutive days, and both times the two days varied greatly in quality. One day Goliath would have all three trains running...the next it would have one, with a 3+ hour wait. The same type of things happened with Scream, Batman, X, Riddler, etc. Waiting in a three hour line for Deja Vu in the LA heat in mid-July will thoroughly upset anyone. But, nevertheless, the "good" days at the Six Flags parks I've been to have been phenomenal.

Deja Vu at SFOG is rarely a problem with the wait. It rarely is running.

  8. Our world has always been what some see as all screwed up. Take comfort that in this case the park won, as it appears it should have. It is not always thus. The reverse is also true. Those injured due to the negligence of others normally recover and win any litigation. Some don't live, and some heirs or the injured do not collect when they should have. The system is not perfect. And if you have ideas on how to make it better, or can help make it better, there are many opportunities to do so, from running for local office to becoming a lawyer, judge, etc., to not trying to get out of jury duty (and not complaining about the judicial system if you do try to get out of it....if all the good people evade jury duty, who is left?)

Ambulance chasers running ads during Jerry Springer and on morning TV are a huge portion of the problem. I would venture to guess that more than 50% of the injury claims that I settle on a daily basis are not injuries at all.
