  1. I know that...but seriously, I am having problems with NO other site...no connectivity problems, nothing. Here, when I try to sign in, more often than not I get a FORBIDDEN screen. And sometimes this site is lagging for as long as 20 seconds before loading. It has not done that much before, and no other site is doing so.

I may not have the problem as ever puter that I use regularly has this site sign on automatically.

  2. This is all reason that cemeteries have or soon will outlive their usefulness.

It's difficult to believe that we are taking up such a finite resource (such as land) and making it lay dormant with graves.

Certainly in the future such actions are going to be looked upon as a "quaint" thing that people did in the past.

  3. Eventually that house is going to fall down and then what? Out where my grandmother is there are plenty of abandoned cemeteries and with urban sprawl I always wonder what is going to happen to them. If no one is here to claim them or what not I can see a developer finding a way to get in there and have it "relocated".

Each state has very specific laws as to how they handle such situations.

Rest assured that there is no developer would be able to develop the land a cometary is on unless those laws are followed.

  4. Did you not see my post above? I do not think that Cedar Fair would be in a position to acquire this property given their own debt load. Not to mention that Cedar Fair, as Interpreter noted, passed up the opportunity to own a minority stake in the property when they purchased Paramount Parks from CBS.

Didn't Mr. Kinzel say they were interested at creating resort destinations at the former Paramount Properties? If the price is right for the business, never say never.

Yes, he said that it was prime to develop such at Carrowinds, Kings Dominion and Canada's Wonderland.

  5. Having just gotten back from an annual pilgrimage there, I was astounded at the number of closed theaters, restaurants, motels and stores. Also at the many, many FOR SALE signs. Times are tough. May I point out that Herschend, a major owner of Dollywood, the Dixie Stampede, the Showboat Branson Belle, Silver Dollar City, etc., just closed Celebration City and deferred most of its planned major 2009 capital investments? This is a tough time for the tourism business...especially for new attractions.

Guess it's all in your perspective of things.

My father has a friend that opened a new restaurant near Gatlinburg this past July. The restaurant/bar is doing better than they projected. My father and step-mother sold their house in Madeira and are moving down to the Pigeon Forge area this coming spring.

  6. Oh, so it is just about to open.

When did Great Wolf Lodge in Mason open? And it did really well how long?

And when did Maui Sands open? And it had bookings and hired as well, right?

And when did Hard Rock Park open? Wild West World?

Talk to us again about this new resort opening, oh, say, about a year from now.

    You know I will.

I've heard good things about the resort.

The difference is that it appears the Smokey Mountains Park is designed as a resort.

  7. Not only that, but ACE presented that plaque. Why on earth should ACE pay to redo it? And why would it be appropriate for Cedar Fair to do so? It wouldn't surprise me terribly if it very quietly disappears.

ACE should pay to redo the plaque as it's every bit as much an advertisement for ACE as it is to honor the coaster.

  8. But won't it be more historically correct 20 years from now if it references the park as what it was when the plaque was received...Paramount's Kings Island? Is it really appropriate to expunge from the past that which was?

Why not simply reference the park as it was when The Beast was built?

Ohhhh, It Was and Is Kings Island. <G>

  9. I wish that I lived close to the Mall of Americas and worked as a marketing professional at its Nickelodeon Universe. I'm glad that one amusement park is doing well in this lousy economy.

Quite frankly, I'm partial to indoor amusement parks. I had an AWESOME time at Lotte World in Korea, wihch is indoors. You never need to worry about the weather.

The weather is part of what makes a park enjoyable.

    Otherwise, you're in a mall.

  10. It's also highly illegal. A cemetery is deserving of respect, and protected by law. Would you want people haunting your grave? I know I'm weird, but it really wouldn't bother me...but it would most people.

In Lexington, Kentucky, and in other places where public park space is scarce, people actually picnic in cemeteries!

Picnicing at cemeteries is quite common in many areas of the country. Many families bring picnic lunches and many parks put benches where you can relax and take in the surroundings and reminisce.

  11. Bah, lightweight. My left leg weighs 120#. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving all, and enjoy your turkey (or whatever you may have for dinner). For us, it'll be turkey, polish sausage, cornbread stuffing, smushed potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, broccoli casserole, cranberry sauce (none for me, thanks), crescent rolls, and pumpkin pie... and that's just off the top of my head.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

WooferBear is cooking away here and expecting a houseload of 12 to 14 folk!

  12. I think that if WinterFest was given the opportunity to become a yearly tradition for local families, then it would not fail. Instead it would probably grow a little with every passing year. But who can know for sure? This chance is simply not to be had.

    Grow Each Year?

Like it did before Paramount discontinued the event?
