  1. I guess its what your son has seen in the past. If he has watch scary movies, etc... then it may not bother him much. Personally, I have a six year old son and I would not take him to Halloween Haunts. Between the fog, characters, lighting, and 'blood paint' he would have nightmares for days to come. That just my two cents worth.
  2. That seems to be a very logical idea. Keep a major ride and just change the theming to fit the area and rebrand the attraction. While TR is not what it use to be (because of the lack of theming upkeep) I still think the idea and concept was really well done and hope they keep this attraction and its enclosure.
  3. Last I heard they still own the Hilton Head property and they also own the Vero Beach Disney Resort.
  4. Its seems clear that this was not handled in a good way. PR and financially. I admit that I have no knowledge about the inner workings of CF, but from the outside looking in they seem to be in some disarray. Its just a shame that an Ohio company would do this to an Ohio historic institution.
  5. Looks like a very well balanced plan of additions. Coasters/Dark Rides, Family rides, Kids areas, and parades. I think they are definitely on the right path.
  6. I couldn't find this any where on the search so I thought I would post it. Maybe they will add future 'theme park attractions' to the zoo. NEW! 4-D Special FX Theater NOW OPEN! "Cincinnati First Zoo in the Country Opening 4-D Theater Presented By Coldwell Banker West Shell You'll see it. You'll move with it. You'll taste it and you'll even smell it. Believe it or not, it will even touch you. This fall, experience a NEW 4-D Special FX Theater only at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Digital 3-D visual effects coupled with 4-D environmental effects, such as wind, scents and other amazing surprises will leave you on the edge of your seat. "Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is the only zoo in the country where guests can enjoy this level of interactive experience," said Marty Desrochers, Manager of Operations for SimEx Iwerks. "There are six in-seat effects and many other in-theater effects that draw the audience onto the screen and into the 3D movie. It's an amazing experience." http://www.cincyzoo.org/VisitorGuide/plany.../4Dtheater.html
  7. Sound like a great attraction that will appeal to a wide group of people.
  8. Wild Adventure fans are really luck getting Herschend as a new owner. They really run a great park.
  9. It will be interesting to see who get the 'used' rides from GL. I think what will be even more interesting is to see if CP get any 'used' rides from GL or if CF sees CP 'to good to get used attractions'. I just want to see them treat the parks equally. If its ok for KI to get used rides, then it should be ok for CP to get used rides as well.
  10. No. That would be illegal. That has not stopped many CEOs, including Countrywide's, who this summer cashed out a lot of stock and then announced the company was in the crapper. I am not saying its not illegal, I am saying there is a lot of legalities to these laws that allow some felixability without going to jail. But, if we take those actions as being illegal, then it should tell us that CF will not be sold or sell any parks any time soon, which may very well be the case.
  11. Maybe he is expecting the stock to go up soon. Buyout, or selling of individual parks?
  12. I wonder if any part of the lesson has to do with attendance and revenue both being up.
  13. The pressure is on at CF. While the quarterly report was bad, I think they are seeing even more decline in July and August. This is causing them to take more 'drastic' measures to plug the hole in the dam. I still think they simply have to big of debt and the overall US economy is not giving them the 'perfect' senario that they needed to make this work. I would not be suprised to see a park or two sold before the end of the year. I also don't think that CF can increase the price of their parks based on Disney increasing their price structure. Different market, different world.
  14. Maybe this is just the first step by the Herschend Family Entertainment in the Cincy area. Maybe they will next buy KI.
  15. I know we discussed this about a week ago, but with the credit issue growing worse in the world financial markets CF is going to have a tough time finding anyone to help them financially. CF needed the economy to run like a well oiled machine to make this acquisition work out and that appears, at the moment, not to be happening.
  16. I think another piece to this 'puzzle' is how much was spent on each chain for new attractions. It appears that CF spent significantly more on new attractions this years than SF yet CF investment seems to be having less return on that investment. I am not saying SF is doing everything right and CF is doing everything wrong, but it does seem something besides gas and local economies are the problem.
  17. That would mean admitting that their strategy of big coaster development might not be working as well as it did in the 80s and 90s. This reminds me of Bobby Knight the basketball coach. In the 80s and early 90s his style of coaching was really working, but when coaching strategies and play changed he was unwilling to adjust. Now he's at Texas Tech and doesn't even make the NCAA playoffs that frequently. I think Dick is kind of the same way. His approach has been (most of time) build a coaster and they will come, I honestly don't believe that is a sound strategy for 2007. Six Flags has figured this out, Busch, Herchend, Hershey, etc... also understand this. Why has CF been so determined not to modify their appoach. This doesn't mean a coaster is not part of the system, but dark rides, family areas, theming, dining, shopping, etc... should be a significant part of the package as well.
  18. What do you think they were saying?
  19. Does make you wonder why more investors didn't wonder what was up. Maybe everyone is going to give them a little more time to get things going in a more positive direction. Something tells me that if they can't show some reversal by the November call there will be more questions.
  20. If you read their response they were careful not to say weather or not they were in any negotiations to sell individual parks. They only said they were not in active talks to sell the company. It almost seems to read as if they may have some discussions going on about individual parks in an effort to 'increase value to our unitholders". "We are not currently in discussions with that organization or any other party for the sale of the company. Of course, the board continuously challenges management to find the best strategic alternatives available to increase value to our unitholders, and I do receive inquiries from time to time about a particular park or group of parks, whether it is to sell or to even buy additional parks. Consistent with our policy, I do not intend to comment on any of these discussions on an ongoing basis."
  21. After listening to the conference call, its seems that I some how are banking on a significant boost in attendance during the 3rd quarter, even though July (part of that 3rd quarter) is already down 7%. They are hanging their hat on Halloween.
  22. On Sat. we went to KI for a little while (mid day) and I was suprised by the lack of people. Here it was the end of July (major season), nice weather, yet the main parking lot was not even close to being full and the parking lots over by BB were almost completely empty. I remember last year and the year before when we would have to park in the far out lot by BB on such a day. I was even suprised at the lines, most of major rides had only about half of their waiting areas full.
  23. Wow, who would have ever thought just two years ago we would have a comment like this. (Not saying anything wrong with it!) While I don't have the numbers infront of me, it would also appear that CF spent more on park improvements this year (several big rides) while SF most did small family attractions and shows. I wonder if CF might be able to learn something from this, theming and family attractions must be a major part of a parks strategy and not just adding coasters.
