When it comes to KI having their own resort, Paramount shot the feet off that by selling the old campground land to Great Wolf.

I just noticed that neither Great Wolf Lodge nor Camp Cedar are preferred hotels. Does anyone know why? I find it to be surprising.

  2. My first reaction to the news was sadness because the Kings Island Resort was part of Kings Island history - and I fondly recall it being featured on The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family. But the resort is closed and will be razed. That is the sad reality.

However, as an MBA who works in the financial services industry,I am very, very disappointed that there is no opposition to building apartments in a commercial district. With 300 apartments across the street from KI, how congested will traffic be?

What if the apartments attract residents that don't appreciate park guests across the street and do things to make them unhappy or complain at civic meetings that the park is too loud and they want to make changes to it? At worst case, what if non law abiding people move into the apartments and break into cars in KI's parking lot?

I think that it is a very, very bad decision and will have a negative impact upon Kings Island and Mason. I think that the land should be used for something else commercial. But that is just my opinion.

  3. My vote is 100% with Scooby Doo and Hanna Barbera Land - the Jetsons, the Flintstones, Yogi Bear, etc. SpongeBob and Nickelodeon would be my second choice. Snoopy and the gang would not make it to my top 5 or top 10 choices. The cartoon was just not that interesting. I'd rather see H-B, Nick, Disney, PBS, Nintendo, Bugs Bunny, or so many other kids themes for my kids and I to interact with.

  4. I am 100% in agreement. Due to its historic ties to the park and its huge popularity, Scooby Doo should be returned to Kings Island. And seriously, do any of today's kids know or care who Snoopy is? My 10-year old son is furious that Scooby Doo has been replace by Snoopy, whom he refers to as "lamo...all he does is sit on his dog house." And I concur with my son. Bring back Scooby Doo and Hanna-Barbera Land.

That being said, KI is now part of the Cedar Fair family which has Snoopy in all of its other parks. Hence, for the sake of brand consistency, I do not foresee Scooby ever returning to Kings Island. :(

  5. Do you think that Flight of Fear should be re-themed? I mean a new film for the queue and new decorations? If so, what should the new theme be? Being that it's an indoor, dark ride, I think theming it to Farscape with the idea that the guests are riding through a worm hole would be cool. What do you think?

  6. Anybody notice Spongebob is still everywhere in the park? Including Spongebob 3D.

Oh yes - I was VERY disappointed to see Spongebob return. After 5 years, I am sick of that film and hoped that KI would change it since NU is no more. KI really needs a new film at Action Theater.

  7. Today I went to Coney Island with my wife and son to give my son a taste of another park. He kept saying that he didn't like Coney Island before we got there, though he didn't know what it was, but quickly changed his mind when we arrived.

First we hit Sunlite Pool. This season Coney Island introduced TWISTER - a water ride with 4 slides, 2 tube and 2 body. I left my 5-year old son with my wife so that I could experience TWISTER and then I ran to Pipeline Plunge, which has 2 tube slides, and I did both of them. Twister is nice, but I much preferred Pipeline Plunge. After that, I played in Sunlite Pool with my son for an hour.

We ate lunch at LaRosa's after Sunlite Pool and then spent a few hours doing classic rides. All 3 of us did the carousel together and the paddleboats, which I paddled alone while my wife and son enjoyed the ride. I rode the Pepsi Python roller coaster alone - which REALLY needs seatbelts as its bumpy - and the River Runner - which is a swinging ship. Both solo rides were fun. My son had a blast doing small kiddie rides such as the airplanes and mini trains.

Overall, it was a great day. Coney Island was the 4th park I've visited this year. So far I've been to CoCo Key Water Resort, Kings Island, BEACH BEND in Bowling Green, KY, and now Coney Island.

    Have a great day!

  8. Tonight I went to Kings Island with my family, and hung out with my son while my wife watched shows. First my son and I rode Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle, I scored 1350 and he scored 150 - his highest ever. Then we rode Lazytown Sportcopters, followed by La Adventura de Azul twice. Next my son rode Swiper's Sweepers and Go Diego Go twice. We then enjoyed 2 rides on the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad, followed by one ride on Danny Phantom, and then the Fairly Odd Coaster twice. After that it was time for fireworks, which my family enjoyed while my wife and son enjoyed Chick-a-filet. Of my 10 visits to the park so far this year, this was my second favorite. MY # 1 favorite was the day I rode Diamondback.

    Have a great weekend!
