I have a huge concern with the purchase of Quimera. It was different than the Mindbender accident where a car axle detached due to maintenance and engineering oversights. The reason why Mindbender was reopened was that there was nothing wrong with the physical structure and track.

However, with Quimera, investigators ruled that the ride was riled with defects. There has been numerous reports of track and supports having severe structural issues, and the loop appears to have significant structural issues (check out the deflection between 2010 and 2019). It looks like whatever refurbishment will be needed will likely cost more than the current value of the ride.

The final concern I have is that the ride can not run with any condensation on the track. The ride was removed from Flamingoland for this exact reason. Furthermore, it being built by the lake may result in the ride being closed more than it is open.

    Yikes:blink: I hope it’s safe!

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) — Indiana Beach closed for good on Wednesday afternoon. White County Economic Development Director Randy Mitchell confirmed that Apex Parks Group decided to close Indiana Beach after a search for buyers ended unsuccessfully. Apex Parks Senior Vice President Gregg Borman told Mitchell the closure was strictly for financial reasons.

  4. I don't find the broken lights under the seats to be a safety issue.

I believe these are the indicator LEDs to confirm the lapbar has locked, not simply part of the light package.

At Cedar Point last May, Ohio inspectors found missing bolts that required installation, a loose nut that needed tightening and lap bar lights that required repair.

In August in California, inspectors found a "lack of compliance" with technical standards and "lack of due diligence" by Cedar Fair, the parent company .

Inspection records show it required 17 separate inspections over 11 days to bring the California ride up to safety standards. Inspectors noted that "was an exceptional amount of time."

    Quite troubling.

    That is quite troubling.

  5. Sorry, but the park is making a HUGE PR mistake by keeping all the details hush hush. Anyone with any experience in PR knows that the best policy a company can take in times like these is to be completely open and upfront with the public. Otherwise, as we have seen and heard here... and at the park, people start to speculate on what happened and begin making their own ridiculous assumptions, start spreading rumors, and the park just looks like it's trying to cover something up. HUGE mistake, in my opinion.

  6. I will never ride Son of Beast again unless something MAJOR is done to the track. I have ridden the ride two times. My first time was last May, and my second time was yeseterday. I thought it was a great coaster last year, but yesterday it was AWFUL. That was the roughest ride I have ever had on any rollercoaster, and they took out the best and smoothest part of the ride (the loop). I rode in the blue train and it felt like the train was bouncing up and down throughout the whole track. I rode with three other people who also said they would never ride it again. I never thought I'd say this, but the best thing to do with it may be to tear it down.

  7. I, for one, loved the old SOB. I only rode it once, which was last year on June 30th. I was too scared to ride it on all of my other KI trips before then. I loved the amazing view it gave of the park. I rode it just a little before sunset. It was beautiful :P. I don't remember it being THAT rough. I DO remember my head being pushed down to the side due to the force that was being applied to it (I am pretty sure it was during the rose bowl) but I wasn't in PAIN. It was 10X better than The Beast in my opinion. I thought the loop was awesome, and I am hoping that removing the loop doesn't take away too much from the ride experience. I'm excited to ride it again this season, hopefully sometime early next month.

  8. I live in Lafayette, Indiana. I got really excited when I heard that Six Flags planned on opening an amusement park only about a half hour away from here. Sadly, it never happened. I love Indiana Beach and all (it's a half hour away) but it really isn't a park that you can spend the whole day at. Every time I go there I get there at about noon, and end up leaving around 5. It just isn't big enough, and it's too expensive for what it offers. The nearest MAJOR theme park is I believe Kings Island, which is about 3 hours away. Kentucky Kingdom is about the same distance, as well is Great America in Chicago. I think the Old Indiana location would have been a good spot, as there are no major theme parks within 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Also, Indiana is the 11th, or 12th (I believe) most populated state in the nation. Indianapolis is also the 11th or 12th most populated city in the nation. I believe attendance could be very nice with the right marketing, etc. Ah well, I'll keep wishing and hoping...
