  1. ^ Yeah maybe they're setting up for now by getting all the bulldozers into place. Now I remember the guy in charge of Kings Island saying they would take it down piece by piece. Wouldn't it seem easier if they just took the wrecking ball to it? Also what about how they took down that one tower ride at a six flags park? Does anybody have the link to that?

Imagine the mess they would have to clean up if the entire Son of Beast roller coaster was literally demolished with a wrecking ball. I'm not in the industry, but it seems dismantling it would be both safer and easier. Dismantling in an orderly fashion vs knocking the structure down into splinters and nails and bolts to go recover. Maybe someone who actually knows will chime in, because I'd like to find out actually :)

Actually asked Don Helbig about the removal plan during the backstage Beast tour.

He said it would basically come down the same way that it went up - section by section.

  2. I could be wrong, but none of the clues or Don's video remotely make me think SOB.

Oh, I definitely thought "SOB." Repeatedly. Interpret that how you will.

You see Don on a video and you think SOB?

Terpy, running for the door (Sorry, Don, I just HAD to)

I definitely thought of SOB too since they used a Blair Witch Project theme on the orginal promo CD back in 1999....but still don't see them making a big deal about this coaster...or even attempting to bring it back to life again. Though I definitely wouldn't complain if they did....miss that loud chain lift and first drop! So, if they would remove the rose bowl and build something more exciting it could actually be a good coaster.

  3. While I would LOVE to hear that Son of Beast will be coming back - in my humble opinion it would be in poor taste to announce on March 18th that it will be re-opened in the future - during the same month that a court case is being heard again as a result of the injuries sustained while riding it.

  4. Thought I would share a funny dream - totally unrealistic - but fun!

I dreamed that modern technology solved any and all issues that was suffered by The Bat back in the early 80's.

So, KI decided to remove The Vortex and rebuild The Bat in it's original location - exactly the way that it was.

Since that would make Flight Deck obsolete - they removed it and put in another awesome B & M coaster.

  5. Tests would start late march early april, but if SOB was to go from SBNO to operating I'd imagine we'd see tests sooner. Which at this point doesn't look like anything will happen. I doubt we see anything happen this year. When the ride went down last year I don't think the park had enough time to put any significant repairs (as in more than 06/07 work) into the budget for this year. If the ride is going to reopen I'd expect to see it open next year. If it doesn't open then, then the ride has run out of all hope.

Not sure if this has been mentioned on here - but I have heard from a good source that the two trains used on SOB have already been sold and left the park late last year. So, unless new trains are on the way (Timberliners?), I think the answer on whether it will be operating this season or not has already been made.

  6. I was in line while they did this.....they took one train off, the maintenance crew was looking at it, and after they were done, put it back into service. It didn't really make sense to me either why they would take a train off with the whole station jam packed.

Well...CRAP! I knew I should have went back alittle later to check. Oh well...I'll be back next wknd! :)

  7. I was there last night and just as I was getting ready to ride they halted operation for at least 10 minutes while they retired one of the trains. It was only 11pm.

After my ride I went back 10 minutes later and people in line told me that they were in the process

    of retiring another one.

There was already a considerable line for a Friday evening, so curious as to why they would

go down to one train with closing time still almost two hours away?

I figured that once they did that the line would be extremely slow - so I went over for a couple

of rides on SOB and hung out at Club Blood! :0

  8. I am planning to head down to KI tomorrow. I had always thought that weekends were the worst, but I was talking with one of the train operators while there last week and they said that Sundays are not that bad as far as attendance. So, since I've already used quite a bit of vacation time for weekday trips, I'm going to give a Sunday visit a try.

If anyone recognizes me from my photo then be sure to say hello....I'm usually hanging out either at The Beast or Son of Beast!! :D

  9. On one of my recent visits, while in line for The Beast, a girl in front of me asked if there were creatures that jumped out at you during the ride. (pointing to the sign in the station that reads: "Warning - The Beast - attacks likely".

  10. Saturday I made my first visit to the park with my family, which included mom, dad, older sister, and my nephew Jackson, who is 3. It was also the first time I had been a gold season pass holder in 3 years, so I am excited because I know I will be at the park a lot this year.

We got there at about 11am where I went through processing and waited no more than 10 minutes. From there we were on a way in the park. While waiting in the processing line, my sister bought a ticket from someone in the Appalachian Fuels group, and she was able to get free 20oz. soft drinks all day and that really helped the family out!

We started our day on Firehawk where waited 20 minutes. It was a great ride as always. Jackson was getting very impatient at this point. He already played the $1 skeeball twice, but he was ready to ride. Mom and dad took him to Nick Universe at this point and me and my sister continued to ride.

After a stop to the restroom and to get some free pop, the family officially separated. It was about 1pm then so we made our way to Vortex where we waited about 10 minutes, and we rode in the second row. It was a pretty smooth ride, but it did have some rough spots. Our picture was great haha!

From there we rode BLSC in the front! We waited about 10 mins. for this too. Then we were going to the ride the Crypt but it was closed all day, so we rode The Beast instead. It was pretty much a walk on. We rode in the front seat where we actually waited. It was probably about 15 mins. total. It was great ride as usual! I was scared though because since the cicadas were out, I figured they would be out there in the trees trying to attack the coaster or something, but it was fine. Those things were everywhere though.

From there I stopped to get an icee mix up cup...bad decision. I don't know exactly where I can refill that thing. I stopped at Subway where I experienced a very rude employee. I understand that this may be a summer job, but there is no reason why you can just treat the job that way. I know what it feels like but I know how to talk to customers/patrons which is why I still have my job after 3 years at the age of 19 now.

After a stop to get some fries, we went to find the rest of the family at NickU. Jackson was riding the swings for the second time and then he rode the bumper cars for the second time as well. I ate some ice cream while I waited for him to get off the Little Bill's coaster. Then dad, mom and I rode Avatar in the back row which is a very different sensation from the middle. My mom was screaming and it was funny, and fun. Jackson rode the three Dora and Diego rides behind Avatar while we rode. Finally we rode SDATHC for the second time for Jackson and we left that area.

I think when we left the time was 3:30pm so we stopped at Larosa's. After that we walked through Action Zone and we baby swapped for Adventure Express because we always ride that ride together. Then walked back to Coney Mall where Jackson was able to ride Monster and the Scrambler. The mom and dad rode BLSC. Our last ride was the train, which Jackson loves! He always call it Thomas the train.

We left at about 7pm and we were exhausted. The weather was beautiful though and the park wasn't too crowded. We were able to ride everything we wanted and never waited more than 10 minutes. We just didn't ride much in Action Zone though, but it didn't matter because we wanted to make sure Jackson had fun, because he has been asking to go to KI since the commercials started to appear on tv. He had a lot of fun and today is asked if we were going again. If you saw a little boy throwing a Scooby doll around at the front entrance at about 7pm, then you saw us.

    Thanks for reading!

I'm suprised to hear that the park wasn't too crowded on Saturday.

I have typically avoided Sat/Sun during June thru August for fear of the lines being way too long.

  11. I have been to the park 5 times this season, but just noticed this for the first time on Friday.

Could have been the way the sun was hitting it...but I noticed this on the track that you go upon after coming out of the

first drop. There are numerous additional metal supports under the track that are a 'brick red' color.

Makes you wonder if Cedar Fair is trying to do more and more to make the ride either safer, smoother or both.

Is this something that has been added recently?

  12. In 2004 when I worked at Top Gun, there was a morning that we came in, and there was a snake on the track at the end of the station right next to the drive box. No joke at all. How did it get there? No Idea. I remember one of my fellow crew members used a hight stick to remove it from the track and trapped it on the station floor under a bin that we had. We proceded to call the grounds crew and they came and removed it.

I always enjoy seeing the cats that inhabit the park.

Around 7-8 years ago I saw a cat wondering around the area where the lake used to be while waiting in line for The Beast.

I had forgotten all about that until reading this post!

  13. Does anyone else out there think that our beloved "Beast" deserves a new paint job....staining...whatever?

Are there any plans in the future being discussed?

I know, I know....track work is much more important....and it looked like on opening day that they have been doing just that.

Also noticed alot of new wood stacked just outside of the double helix to suggest that the track work was still on-going.

  14.

Here are two of my favorites:

Around 1994-ish - guy comes up to me, looking confused, wanting to know where to find "Cone Town". I figured he was referring to the "Old Coney" area and pointed him in the right direction.

July 2007 - overhearing two young boys discussing SOB, while in line for SOB. They were discussing how someone died on the ride the previous year. I just smiled and let them talk.

  15. I am getting ready to head to Ki now. I should be back home about a hour or two before I would normally be getting out of bed. :P

It's hard to make the last day when it's on a weekday.

That's why I'll be taking some time off tomorrow morning and going into the office at noon!
