  1. You didn't have the one response that truly fits me... I get nauseous just looking at Delirium. I don't get nauseous on other flat spinny rides until I actually ride them.
  2. Yes, there will be trip reports. I will have one when my brain reconstitutes itself into something that resembles the control center of my body and mind, not just a quivering mass of jelly.
  3. I'll be there on Sunday. There's a list of people going on another thread, I'm just too lazy to look up the page address. Coaster Kid started that thread. Speaking of that... is it me, or does The Beast seem to give really kick-a$$ rides on the last day? It's like The Beast is giving you something to remember him by over the winter and something to look forward to in April.
  4. If I ever rode Vortex 8 times in a row, you all would have another memory to add for the season: me projectile-vomiting around the inversions like the rings of Saturn. I know, some of you would pay good money to see that. That's fine, so long as I get a share.
  5. I'll start with an off-season memory... Walking from GWL to IR down that beautifully plowed path in January now to the season: Ride Warriors Weekend--seeing zombified coaster enthusiasts outside the gate at 7:45 am Sunday; First ride on Diamondback, the highest ride I've ever been on; First back-car ride on Diamondback and finding religion in the process; First front-row ride on Diamondback, worried my coat would start to shred in hurricane-force winds; Beast thoroughly kicking my butt all year long for coveting another coaster; A friend making a scary face toward the front of the line in SDATHC and making a little kid cry; Back stage tours of Racer; and just making time to hit the Island more often to blow off steam... oh yeah, can't forget riding coasters at midnight in near-freezing temperatures during Halloween Haunt. Almost couldn't fit on the rides because I was wearing so many layers. Hoping to make a few more memories on Nov. 1.
  6. NO, no, rarely, no, no. I will comment on another thing I haven't seen on here (didn't have time to review thousands of posts to find): The Glass Blower shop is an amazing little place. They have some incredible pieces of art for sale in there. You can find a reasonably-priced, one-of-a-kind piece for a gift for a special someone. The pieces are hand-made in-shop, and the work is exquisite.
  7. While SOB may be seen as a failure by some groups, I think there will be another attempt at a wooden "hypercoaster" sometime in the future. Bat was a failure as a suspended coaster, but there were many lessons learned in regards to design and engineering specs. Ride manufacturers have learned a lot about SOB... what went right, and more importantly, what went wrong and what was a total disaster. I don't see wooden hypercoasters sprouting up all over the place like suspended coasters did after Bat, but I can see someone trying a hyper woody again.
  8. I got a text from KICentral about the park closing last night. I got that text around 3 or so. There's another resource you can use. Sign up for the KICentral messaging service thingy.
  9. There's nothing like walking in through the turnstyles and seeing the fountain in all its glory with the Eiffel Tower in the background. It's the sure sign you're "home."
  10. I, too, will miss Scooby. It will be a shame to lose the one hold-over from the park's early days. I grew up on Scooby Doo, and even a Pup Named Scooby Doo, so I'm always excited to see Scooby around the park. I will also miss pointing at and yelling "Reptar!" at the top of The Beast's second hill and occasionally from Racer's hill. We may still yell "Reptar!" since that is tradition in our group. I WILL NOT miss "Fairly Odd Coaster." BRING BACK THE BEASTIE!!!
  11. Speaking of Festhaus, I would like to see some more Oktoberfest theming brought back, especially fixing the clock over the Festhaus entrance.
  12. I didn't start counting times ridden until this year, but I know I've ridden The Beast the most overall. While I have ridden Diamondback the most this year, Beast is my #1 coaster for total number of laps. It has to be well over 100 for me.

    Backwards Racer

It's more complicated than that. They have to take all the mechanics under the train and relocate those as well... things like the chian dogs, relays, sensors, and brake components. I do miss the backward Racer as well, but having both run forward and RACE is a fun part of the ride experience as well, trash-talking the other train as you go up the first hill.
  14. I wouldn't argue with Terpy. Touchdown, who has learned not to argue with Terpy.
  15. Yes, I do remember you. Always nice to meet people from here. Maybe I can get in on one of the group meet-ups when I'm there. Well of course someone could top me. 15 rides isn't unheard of. Most coaster laps I've done in one day is 30. I can do more, but I have this thing about eating and drinking once in a while, and there's the whole bathroom thing. I can't imagine 92 circuits, though. You're a true Ride Warrior. I did see Gary (I think) adding to his impressive total. He passed 1150 DB rides on Monday and was working on 1200. When I was in line for ride #14, he was in line for #39, if I remember correctly.
  16. I don't necessarily get motion sick, but on certain rides I do get dizzy. Since 2007, the rides in the park do seem to have gotten faster. That is no more apparent than on Vortex. After the double loop, the world does weird things for a few seconds, but I'm usually good to go for the corkscrews. The helix is the other area I get dizzy. While it's not motion sickness, I would like the world to stop so I can get off. It takes me about 10-15 minutes to recover. The only time I ever truly got motion sickness was actually seasickness while crossing the English Channel on one of the ferries. The seas were still high a day after 100+ mph winds stirred things up over the Channel.
  17. And now for the pics... The emcee. You may recognize him from the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog eating contest on July 4. He does this for a living. Look at all that chili spaghetti in front of him. Some of the contestants, waiting to be introduced. The man who brought the mustard belt back to America... Joey Chestnut Contestants getting ready to jam their faces full of chili spaghetti. The Grim Reaper (Ryan perhaps???) ready to take the title back to the Underworld. The judges getting ready with their tally boards. Let the carnage... BEGIN! Creepy dancing Skyline mascot. Dear God in Heaven... 4 people with 11 pounds of chili spaghetti AND COUNTING!!! DON Helbig!!! (lower right corner) Oh yeah, Scooby too. Really, I didn't know Don was standing there. Just a nice surprise. Scooby giving his props to the gluttons, errr, I mean competitors, all the while keeping an eye on the Grim Reaper. OOOOOooooOOOOOOoooooo Halloween Haunt must be close. More Haunt props in place. Vampire bats in Festhaus. In case you can't see it... it's a big-a$$ spider in Festhaus. Yes, everyone is DYING to get in!!!
  18. Ok, before you all go ape(stuff) on me, I wasn't trying to kill myself. That's just my term for making a one-day trip to and from Kings Island from Muncie. Pics coming in follow-up post. Allrightythen. I came solo this time. Everyone I knew had to work. On Labor Day. Huh. Really. National holiday to celebrate the working person, and everyone had to work. As a result, this is going to be one of my shorter TRs, since I had one goal in mind, and that was to double my ride total on Diamondback for the season, so guess where I went first... The bathroom. After a little over 2 hours in the car, you would do the same thing. Plus, I just love those air blades. Got by the photo hogs inside the front gate. A remarkably easy feat when you're by yourself. They have no interest in singles. THEN it was off to Diamondback. What a sexy (female dog). I was just going to marathon the ride all day long. Well, it was still early in the morning by my standards (10:30), so the body wasn't ready for a marathon. More like a 5K. Got 5 rides in about an hour and a half. Got a little woozy. Went to visit my old buddy The Beast. Rode in 1-2. Didn't want to wait for very front row. The Beast is such an amazing ride, it'll always by #1 in my heart, even though I'm currently enamored with Diamondback. The Beast will always be there, ready to kick my ass for dating someone else, and I'll take it, because I know I deserve it. I was still recovering from 5 DB rides and getting a little peckish, so I started heading from Rivertown to Outer Hanks. On the way, I stopped by total mayhem and carnage on a grand scale. I was no longer hungry. The Skyline chili spaghetti competition was about to start. Humble Bob Shoudt, Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Sonya Thomas, Halloween Haunt's very own Grim Reaper, and others stuffed their craw full of the once-tempting Skyline chili spaghetti (with mountains of cheese of course) for a full 10 minutes. Pictures to come when I get them put into my just-repaired computer. Humble Bob edged Joey Chestnut by a few shavings of cheddar cheese to defend his crown. Oh yea, he ate a little over 13.5 pounds of the stuff in 10 minutes. After lunch, it was time for more rides on Diamondback. Got 5 more in. Also got my first-ever ride in the front row. Sky was threatening rain, so I wore my jacket. The wind in the front row was so intense, I was actually worried my jacket would start tearing. What a rush, though. Took another break after the second set of 5 rides and got some ice cream from Action Zone. Sorry all you blueberry ice cream lovers. I happen to like the classic chocolate/vanilla twist cones. Also took in a Down Home Country show in the FestHaus while I enjoyed my ice cream. I'm not a big fan of country music, but I do like some of the classics, which they highlight in the show. I am impressed with the level of talent of the performers this year, in all shows, not just DHC. Time was now 5:30, so had 2.5 more hours to get my 5 rides in, more if I felt like it. Had my ride total at 13 at about 6:30 and back in line again. I was first in line to get a row assignment from Captain Nemo when everyone heard thunder. Crap. Pulled up radar. Small cell. Should be out quickly. Talked with Gabriel for a bit until it started raining, and he let everyone still in the queue under the roof of the platform. Got in row 16. Figured it would be easier that way. Go to the very end and get out of the way of others trying to stay dry. 30 minutes or so passed, and the phone call we waited for came. The siren went off, and we were ready to roll again. It was raining lightly, but they got the ride going again. I was going to be the 3rd train out. I have my 15 rides easy. Gates open. I start getting comfortable in row 16. Skies open up. Ride shuts down again. Crap. Get the other 2 trains emptied. Pouring down rain. Rain lets up. It's about 7:20. Thunder again. Crap. 7:40. More thunder. Double crap. There goes my 15 rides. Probably won't get the ride going again. Park closes at 8. It's still dry under here. I think I'll just wait. 7:50, and the phone rings. Siren goes off. WOO HOO!!! I can still get my 2 rides in. Ride in row 16. Have my hat in my left hand. I'm in the left seat. We hit the splashdown, but I didn't feel any water. Then I remember my hat. Soaked. Oh well, I still have 3 minutes to get back in the queue. Make it with like 90 seconds to spare, until the ride supervisor said he was keeping the line open for a few more minutes. That's ok. Even though I wasn't on the last ride of the day, I did get on the red train's last ride. Row 16 again. Complete nirvana. I accomplished my goal of 15 rides. That also set a personal one-day, single-ride record for me. 15 rides on a single coaster in one day. Pics coming soon. Edit: Wow, hey. I just updated my sig, and realized that last-minute ride on DB made it a 2009 season total of 100 rides at the park. Nice.
  19. I want to make sure I read my flier correctly. It says you have to PURCHASE the pass AT THE PARK on one of those 4 days in September. Do you also have to PROCESS the pass on one of those 4 days? Not really sure it matters all that much, but it's something my crazy brain thought of.
  20. Last time I was at Kings Island, I had a park employee tell me that one time Diamondback e-stopped because someone lost a flip-flop, and it was covering one of the sensors. Maintenance was walking all over the ride trying to figure out why the ride e-stopped, then there it was. A $22-million ride shut down due to a few cents' worth of plastic and foam.
  21. I've never felt like I was going to fall out of the seat. The G-forces keep you down in your seat pretty well. If your shoes aren't tied tightly, you could lose them at some point. It's also possible to lose your glasses/sunglasses, even if you have a strap to hold them on.
  22. I wonder if anyone on here can answer this. Last year when they had the season pass renewal, they said the 2009 pass would be good for all 2009 plus 1 admission for the rest of the 2008 season. Is that going to be the same policy this time around? Do our 2009 passes become inactive when the 2010 passes are purchased and processed? I want to take advantage of the $69.99 deal, but I plan on making more than 1 trip during October/Halloween Haunt.
  23. What about Viking Fury? I love that ship! When I go with a big group of friends, we sit on opposite ends at the very top and shout stuff at each other. If you've been on a ride on VF with a bunch of obnoxious people yelling "Ruffio, Ruffio, RU-FEEEE-OOOHHH," "Bork Bork, Chicky Chicky," "You can fight, you can fly, you can *C0CK-A-DOODLE-DOO*!" and other assorted sayings, that was us. Touchdown, who gets annoyed at the little, and not so little, kids shrieking... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOAT!!!
